Tatum said, “Odette, that’s…” I cut her off, “Nope. We can’t think about that right now. We are escaping because the look on their faces is greedy. They will probably ask for more money.” I was right. The man smirked answering me, “Yes, he’s always serious. That man is Alpha Eric Conners.”
I nearly retorted, “I know that.” Barely managing to swallow the words.
The guy continued, “Which means the price just jumped. Now it’s twenty million.
” Oh god. Twenty MILLION dollars?! I wanted Caspian.
Sassy started screaming that song our family sang to calm me down, but it made me want them more.
I didn’t think anyone had twenty million to give for me. I mentally repeated, “Melanie is coming. Melanie is coming.” The greedy man continued, “We didn’t know Alpha Eric Conners cared about this girl. We were only told about the Daniels boy.”
Keaton growled, “I’m not a boy, and I’m an Alpha.” I internally cheered for my boyfriend. Lisa tried to destroy his confidence but here he was being in charge. Tatum purred, “Yes he is.” Even Sassy felt smug right now.
Eric shrugged, “Fine. You give us Keaton’s mate back, and you can have twenty million dollars.
” The man acted like he was exchanging some beans for me instead of money.
I whispered, “Oh my god. That’s…” I trailed off, “he’s…
” Words failed me again. I managed, “for me? I’ll never be able to pay him back.
” Eric assured me, “You don’t need to pay me back. ”
I couldn’t have been more shocked by anything else. I could accept that Supernatural’s existed, but this man who didn’t know me was willing to save me at great personal expense. Tatum whispered, “Odette.”
I didn’t want to think about it. Because I was certain Eric was my brother, on my dad’s side.
Tatum said, “You realize that makes us related to Melanie. We are her aunt by marriage.” I nearly laughed out loud, because that was really funny.
It should be reversed. Melanie totally had the cool but crazy Aunt vibes about her.
An angry howl, I recognized as Freya, rang out. Tatum boasted, “Freya is coming to save us, and they are all dead for what they’ve done.” Well, I guess Supernatural’s just go full tilt on murderous thoughts. Good thing since we were surrounded by murder.
Someone yelled, “It’s not possible! How did you let a wolf get past our borders? What is wrong with you?” Howls rang out all over. Tatum told me, “Freya is killing.” Good for Melanie. I smirked, looked up, and winked at Keaton.
My boyfriend moved towards the screen. I mouthed, “I’m coming home, Key. I love you.” Tatum huffed, “He is mate, not a boyfriend.” I was about to argue when I felt the key in my hand. Delana was moving out the door. I quickly undid the cuffs.
The door at the other end of the room flew open and I ran to the door, turning to find Melanie in wolf form. Freya was glowing yellow. Tatum growled at the people moving to fight. I wanted to help my friend. Melanie just gave me a look that said leave. I gritted my teeth.
Tatum growled, “We are an Alpha wolf, we can help.” I said, “We have no training for this type of situation. Self-defense sure, not this. We need to follow the plan.” Sassy huffed too but I spun on my heel and ran.
I heard snarling and clothes shredding. I made it to the door when I heard the buzzing sounds and teeth hitting and grinding on each other. Wow. Melanie really could electrocute people. Maybe I could too. I made it outside with no problems.
Delana was standing there waiting so I ran to her. She winked at me. A wolf snarled at us and Delana quickly put me behind her. Tatum pushed forward in my head and snarled loudly. The wolf backed off. Handy.
Before we could do anything else, Melanie’s wolf was there. Freya growled menacingly. I looked around realizing we were being surrounded. Delana noticed and our eyes locked for a second. Then I saw it, a hot spring. Caspian said I just needed to wish for him.
I yelled, “Follow me!” I ran for the spring while my kidnappers chased us. I grabbed Delana’s hand. Melanie’s wolf scooped us up onto her back. I yelled, “Get to the hot spring!” Delana yelled, “WHAT?!” Melanie didn’t question it and kept running.
My friend took off and we were there in a flash. I closed my eyes and yelled, “CASPIAN!” I wished to be with him harder than I ever had. I felt the water hit me as Melanie dove in. I saw what looked like a portal while Delana stared at me in shock.
I grabbed them and pulled them through, then we were falling for what felt like thirty minutes. I screamed as we plopped out of the water portal onto the hard ground below us. Melanie had shifted back with her clothes on. So, the books got that wrong.
We all landed on our butts. I looked around and nearly groaned.
Oh no. I didn’t recognize this place. I wished for Caspian.
Did I get it wrong? Did we go near the Merrick’s?
Where were we? Sassy hissed in annoyance when tritons were pointed at the three of us.
Melanie growled and Delana hissed too. What had I done?
