826 THE WAR OF DARKNESS AND LIGHT (11)
Using the monsters as the ladder, Cane in his beast form managed to climb on top of the fortress and once the black beast reached the peak the dragon returned, breathing fire, burning everything in its wake.
The beast then used the ground of the fortress to propel its body toward the sky, while at the same time Iris summoned the sixth sword to slash the Dragon’s mouth, the moment she was close enough with the majestic monster!
Blood spurted out from the slashing wound and the black beast, once again, used the monsters to soften his landing on the ground, keeping its distance from the writhing dragon in order to protect Iris on its back.
Black blood from the dragon was like black rain that happened months ago when the Dragon coiled its body and let out a deafening roar.
Its monstrous body finally fell to the ground, but this monster was still alive. Its tail swatted the fortress and damaged some part of it. The people on top of the fortress were immediately seeking for a shelter.
"Cane," Iris called for her mate, the sword was still in her hand, she could feel it throb withing her palm, as if urging her to finish this dragon off.
Understood what his mate needed to do, the black beast dashed toward the groveling dragon. This was their chance to finish the dragon off and kill Dexter.
Meanwhile, because of the pain, the dragon caused more damage on the fortress if they had to wait longer than this to kill it.
One hand was holding the sword, the other was gripping tightly on the beast’s fur, Iris’s blue eyes filled with determination.
She was going to make them paid for what they had done to her daughters.
For the pain that they caused. For everything that Cane and she had gone through. For all the misery they had to endure.
The protection shield that Iris created around her and Cane, prevented them to be burned by the dragon’s fire, allowing the black beast to charge forward without any trouble.
And once they were close enough, Iris slashed one of the dragon’s wings and made a deep incision on the dragon’s stomach.
Once again, blood spurted out like a broken dam from the wound its stomach, making the dragon became even more crazy.
This was the right moment for Cane and Iris, as the black beast jumped on top of the dragon’s back and Iris aimed her sword toward Dexter.
The magic user glared at her with so much hatred in his eyes, but it didn’t make Iris flinched at all.
You wouldn’t be able to compare how much hatred of a mother had, whose babies were being killed. That mother feared nothing, as she had gone through hell to even stay alive after such tragedy.
The sword gleamed in Iris’s hand and she was ready to get Dexter!
However, two things happened almost simultaneously before Iris’s sword could strike Dexter’s neck and she got the satisfaction of killing this devil pawn.
Dexter realized he was in disadvantage situation. He couldn’t fight Iris and Cane at the same time when the dragon was dying and he lost a lot of energy after healing this monstrous creature.
Therefore, it left him with one option, which was; retreat.
He created a portal that would take him and the dragon away from this place and the black beast reacted almost immediately once it knew what was going on.
The alpha jumped quickly from the dragon’s back before Iris could stab Dexter, because if they were being sucked into that portal, they certainly would be in danger.
Needless to say, Dexter would retreat to his nest, which was a place that would be too dangerous for Cane and Iris to be in when they had no preparation for it whatsoever.
Thankfully, the black beast reacted in time and they could escape from being sucked into the portal.
And now, the gigantic dragon and its rider had disappeared before their eyes within a blink of an eye, leaving behind more destruction on the fortress and the mess that had to deal with.
The result of it was not satisfying, but at the very least, Decratic and the dragon were injured badly. They wouldn’t be able to do anything in the meantime, giving them time to gather their strength as well.
Iris was sure, she had badly injured Decratic. She might have killed him, but for some reason, she didn’t feel like it was the real Decratic.
After all, Abby had told her about it before. She needed to kill the real one, but the one that they faced didn’t feel real for Iris. She couldn’t explain this feeling, but her instinct told her so.
The sword in Iris’s hand then disappeared and she jumped down from the beast’s back, as the black wolf shifted back into its human form.
"Are you, okay?" Cane asked, he wiped blood of the dragon from her face. Both of them coated with this disgusting, sticky blood.
"I am fine." Iris wiped the blood from Cane’s face too. "Are you, okay?"
"Hm." Cane nodded.
After making sure the other person was fine, both of them walked toward the gates hand in hand. There was not many word that was exchanged between them, but they didn’t need to. There would be time for everything. They had a lot to talk about, but right now, this silence was way more comfortable.
Meanwhile, the monsters stood at the other side, didn’t even budge, neither there was any indication they would attack Iris and Cane, which left all of them dumbstruck. What kind of power the alpha and the luna held to be able to control the monsters?
The gates were opened even before the reached there and Jace led his warriors in their beasts came out, just in case, the monsters became aggressive.
"Alpha, luna..." Jace called for them.
"Send someone to fetch Lou and Zale, they are around the campsite area. Take Grace with you. Lou is injured." Though Iris had healed him, but she wanted to make sure the merchant’s condition didn’t get worse. After all, he was not a shifter that could heal on its own.
"Luna, the fire..." Jace said, beside him, Joel shifted into his human form too. The young warrior stared at the docile monsters and wondered how it could happen.
"I will take care of it," Iris said calmly, as she walked into the fortress with Cane close to her. The alpha didn’t say anything and Iris could feel he was spent. It was only a sheer of his power to be able to walk with her right now.
Cane needed rest. She needed rest. All of them needed rest too after such long and exhausted battle.
Iris raised both of her hand once she was already inside the pack house and the salamander came closer to her. This creature left the Serafim when it sensed iris’s presence.
Meanwhile, the warriors and knights were amazed of what Iris had done to the monsters, because they were very docile. A few hours ago, they were going to kill them, but now even when they were within their reach, they didn’t even budge an inch.
Iris bent her body down and picked up the salamander, then her body emanated this beautiful light that spread across the pack house, as if there was a gentle white fog that engulfed this burning place, putting off the fire.
Within less than two minutes, the fire was no more, leaving a mess behind, but it was way better than to have the fire to burn down the entire place.
All of them gasp and they couldn’t believe with what they were seeing, especially the knights. Their Serafim couldn’t do this, but this luna was able to do so.
"Let’s go to the pack house, we will gather there," Iris said to Jace. She gave them all order, telling them the monsters wouldn’t attack and to fix the damage on the fortress as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Cane said nothing, he let his mate to lead the people and only add one or two things in her order.
"Can you find two carriages?" Iris asked.
It was a long way to reach the pack house and she and Cane were too exhausted to take it. More so, Abby needed to rest as well. Iris had seen her condition, she was not in danger, only very exhausted after she forced herself to cross her own limit.
"Give me a moment, luna!" Joel said, he was thrilled by how things turned out. But, it was not only him, all of them felt the same thing too.
They thought they would be done for and there would be no more tomorrow for them, but the alpha and the luna came and once again, they felt like everything would be fine...
The alpha and the luna assumed their roles as their leader and this were surprisingly delightful to see how the luna embraced her status so well.
While waiting, Iris sat down on debris of large rock with the salamander on her lap. She was quiet.
"Tired?" Cane asked, he caressed her hair, which now coated with the dragon blood. They were in an urgent need to take a bath.
"Yes," Iris replied in small voice. She caressed her ran her finger on the salamander’s back, as the creature snuggled against her.
It took a while for Joel to find two carriages, which was a miracle, knowing how this place was almost flattened to the ground thanked to the dragon.
"I am sorry, luna, the carriages are not proper, but this is all I can find," Joel said. The carriage had some part that was being burned, but apart from that, it could work just fine. "I have informed the people to prepare your room in the pack house."
Joel had asked around and was relief when he learned the fire didn’t reach the pack house yet.
Iris smiled softly at the young warrior, she patted his shoulder. "Thank you so much, Joel." Iris then asked Jace to come with her.
With that, Iris, Cane and Jace took one of the carriages, while Liam, Cedric and Abby took the second carriage. They went to the pack house.
Inside the carriage was very quiet, neither Iris nor Cane spoke a word, but they used this time to feel each other’s presence, was grateful they still had one another, despite all the adversity that was served for them.
Cane kissed the tip of her nose and her neck before he rested his head on her shoulder.
Once they arrived at the pack house, a few people that had been informed by Joel that the luna, the alpha and the Serafim would come, greeted them and escorted them to their bedroom.
"I have prepared a bath for you, alpha, luna..." One of the women said, she was the same woman, who served Iris when she was in this pack.
Iris thanked her and then asked a few questions to Jace, Cane also did the same, as the beta explained everything concisely.
They learned Ethan was fine and Redmond was here, about how many warriors that had died, Jace couldn’t give them an exact number before he checked first.
Cane then instructed Jace to coordinate with the knights and the pack member of Silver River pack to fix the fortress and check on food storage, how much they had. He gave some instruction more until Iris cut him off.
"You will be in charge, Jace. Do what you think is necessary. Cane and I need to rest," Iris said in calm voice.
They had gone through the worst memories in their lives, fighting Decratic and taking down the dragon, not to mention Iris had put off the fire, who would deny them if they needed to rest.
"Understood, luna," Jace replied solemnly.
"Don’t forget Lou and Zale," Iris added.
