About That #18

Ezra shook his head denying the truth in front of his face, “No. We checked on you several times after the Resistance was involved with things.” I countered, “Wow… you checked on me. If only I knew a few Demons and a Witch who could help me get from one place to another quickly.”

“Gosh, that would just be so helpful. Do you know what’s sad about that?

You all knew I had Demon friends… AND a Witch friend…

yet this didn’t occur to you. I actually think pups could run circles around you in strategic reasoning classes.

Because the allies, with all their compulsions and cookies bound by magic, thought it was me…

but you had none of those issues and couldn’t put it together. ”

Ezra shouted, “You’re not that smart! You’re being run by someone else!

So, someone else organized people and you just joined.

” I stood, “First of all, I’m a genius. I WOULD HAVE TO LOSE OVER TWENTY I.Q POINTS TO BE CLASSIFIED AS SMART!

” Ezra scoffed, “You clearly lost them because you’re just a follower. ”

I retorted, “Oh yeah?” Freya growled at him Ezra’s eyes widened.

Freya took over, “You tried to hurt my human in immeasurable ways. You were party to keeping me from her and tried to get me permanently taken away with that whelp of a pup marking her. You are a disgrace.” Freya let me take back over.

Ezra stammered, “Your wolf just….” I snorted cutting him off, “Oh come on, you had to know I got my wolf.” Ezra frowned, “It will be years before you shift.” I scoffed, “Based on what research? You’re not smart enough to get that answer.” Ezra snarled, “I’m right!”

I retorted, “Oh yeah, Mr. Know it All? I already shifted. I need someone to snap you a clown nose at this point.” Someone did just that. Ezra tried to take it off but couldn't. I laughed, “Now you really are Bobo the Clown.” Freya said, “That amuses me deeply.”

Ezra growled, “The Ring will find the person behind the Resistance and then you will be NOTHING! You are NOTHING without the leader of the Resistance. So, you saved some Omega’s?

You’re working for someone who decides what’s good and bad.

Maybe they will lean to the bad side, and then you’re just like me. ”

I snorted, “I will never be like you. You chose your greed over everyone around you. You could’ve had love and life, but you were greedy.

” Ezra snorted, “You’re a puppet whose strings are being pulled just like mine were.

You have no say in what you do which makes you just like me.

You’re even bolder than you were before, because I’m behind these bars. ”

I argued, “I’m not a puppet and my strings aren’t being pulled.

I’m bolder because there are no consequences for me, or my friends, with you behind those bars.

I thought of them… always. I stood for them, and those that couldn’t, against bullies like you with Alpha blood running through your veins.

I did what Selene should’ve done to stop bad people like you. ”

Ezra snorted, “You’re exactly like me. I also thought I was in charge for the longest time. We are all cogs on a wheel.” I repeated, “Again, I’m not like you. You’re the one who threw a live grenade into the Ring packs.”

“Do you think it’s a coincidence that things started happening against the Ring when I got there?

Do you REALLY think it’s a coincidence that everyone you sent after the Conners family…

failed after I showed up? They didn’t even get within fifty miles of Black Mountain for years.

The one group that did… suffered the most for it. ”

Ezra frowned asking, “You killed those people?” I nodded. Ezra snorted, “You’re still like me.” I growled, “Stop saying that.” Freya said, “I want to take over and use my aura on this horrid excuse of a person.” I didn’t blame her.

Ezra laughed, “We are all cogs on a wheel rolling for the bosses behind the scenes. Some grudge match between the Ring leaders and Resistance leaders is going down, and we’re just caught up in the fray.

At least I had my own agenda. You merely joined a band that rallies against a cause.

Good never wins, my dear. It’s always best to join the evil side. ”

I was furious now I demanded, “NEVER call me my dear again. Only one person does that… and it’s not you. I’m not your anything. Well… your demise… but I don’t think you’d call me that. I didn’t merely join a cause. You threw it in my lap and in my face. I’m not caught in anyone’s fray.”

Ezra laughed, “My dear…” Freya took over and roared, “DO NOT CALL MY HUMAN THAT!” The full authority of the white wolf went into that command, and I watched Erza lock up as it took hold. Xander linked, “That’s so sexy.” Freya purred at him.

Ezra shook himself, “You were probably taken advantage of more than most. You had your grief over your family, and you are smart.” I linked Sierra, “I hate Ezra… I hate him… I’ve already told him I’m a genius… and he keeps calling me SMART!”

Sierra snorted, “Ok, just preparing for the tidal wave of emotion from everyone else when you to declare yourself the Resistance leader and emailing those that know a warning in code.” I grumbled, “I AM A GENIUS! TWENTY I.Q. points Si….OVER TWENTY!” Sierra replied, “I know, trust me.”

Ezra prattled on, “Not people smart… but book smart. I’m sure they used the hell out of you. You’re just a cute little member in the Resistance.” I yelled, “IN IT? JUST A LITTLE MEMBER? THE RESISTANCE DOESN’T USE PEOPLE OR THEIR GRIEF! I AM A FREAKING GOOD PERSON! WHY DOES NO ONE UNDERSTAND THAT?”

“I WOULD NEVER USE MY FRIENDS! I AM NOT JUST IN THE RESISTANCE I AM THE RESISTANCE! I’M THE LEADER! I RUN THE WHOLE DAMN THING! I STARTED IT! IT’S MINE AND YOU DUMB PEOPLE GAVE ME THE RALLYING CHARGE WHEN YOU MADE ME BELIEVE MY FAMILY DIED AT THEIR HANDS THEN CAME AFTER MY FREAKING MATE!”

Freya linked, “Good call on telling Xander before this. I get it though, this sad excuse of a man is HIGHLY insulting and annoying. Plus, you’ve wanted to throw that in his face for years and I was about to myself if I’m being honest.” My wolf was right.

Ezra whispered, “No.” He paused then screamed, “NO!” I smiled, “I told you… I’m your linchpin and you pulled me. Which set off a chain reaction. You gave me insight into the Ring, and I took it. I’ve been slowly and systematically shutting them down piece by piece.”

“You should be glad you’re here Ezra. Because those behind the Ring are smart enough to figure out… I just might be in the Resistance. What do you think they would do to you if you were out there in the world walking about and they realized that?”

Ezra frowned. I pointed out, “They tossed you away, even you have to know that. They sent you at Alpha Theo knowing you would ultimately fail. You might have killed some of their pack, but you weren’t going to keep it even if you managed to take it.”

I mocked him, “The Ring cut their losses to punish you, and you don’t even see it. You’re better off here than with them. Which is sad. Because the torture you will endure here… is next level. You can count on seeing Alpha Lucas and Alpha Theo.”

“I hope you even see Felicia because she deserves justice. She deserves to know the man she thought was kind and her friend… was spelled to lose his mind. He wasn’t even himself anymore by the time he raped her.”

“You let them trap him inside his own mind, watching his actions as his body was overtaken. The poor man. I honestly cannot imagine how horrible, and sick, he felt watching all that happen to him. I’ll have Paige study the spell you wrote down.”

“So, thanks for that. Maybe Paige can find the counter to it. It messes with the soul and mind, so Haley and Emmaline can probably fix it as well. You’re disgusting.” I walked up to the bars and slammed him into them by grabbing his shirt, so I could punch him in the face.

I said, “That’s for Alpha Theo.” I brought my elbow into his eye socket, “And that’s for my friend Lux who never got to meet his uncle because you’re a petty jerk.” I was so angry. Freya said, “We need to shift.” I was shaking so I took off running outside.

Xander linked me, “Where are you going?” I answered, “Freya said we need to shift.” Xander chuckled, “Alright. The room on my end is in shock so I’ll pop to you and join that run.” I made it to the top of the steps before I shifted.

Freya took off running and Xander popped beside me. We ran for several miles in wolf form before I shifted back and ran in human form. Xander did the same. Eventually I went to my knees. Xander patted my back commenting, “That was quite the announcement.”

I sighed, “The one where I set up a meeting with my boss and walked in alone was funnier.” Xander said, “I don’t know about that. This way was pretty epic.” We stood up and Xander grabbed my hand. He popped us back to the house.

We walked in the front door. Everyone was waiting. Dad spoke first, “We need to talk.” Oh boy… they looked mad. In for a penny in for a pound I suppose. Freya said, “There’s something else going on. Their wolves are proud of us.” Yeah, but I was in danger again and they never liked that.
