Chapter 6 Out in the Open
Out in the Open
Alexander stepped through the portal with gold eyes. I linked Oden asking, “Can we block our feelings from Mel without pulling back? I don’t want her to panic about not being able to feel us, but I’m too angry right now. She shouldn’t have to deal with this.”
Oden said, “We can push them down like we can with everyone else, but Freya can help make it better for mate. I’ll let her know.” I sighed in relief, “Thank you, Oden.” Oden answered, “Mate was sheltered, Alexander. Freya keeps saying that to me.”
That pulled me up short. I asked my wolf, “What?” Oden advised, “Just remember that.” EJ asked, “Why are you suddenly confused, little brother? You’re mostly angry, but now you feel puzzled too.
” I sighed, “Oden wanted me to remember Melanie was sheltered because Freya keeps saying it to him. I have no fucking clue why.”
Drake answered, “Melanie makes friends easily, but she doesn’t always grasp social cues.
My daughter is quite literally a genius, and this next part is my fault.
” I asked, “What part?” Drake sighed, “Melanie doesn’t understand why you are upset about a male teaching her to hack or drive.
She doesn’t understand why the thing with Lux was a big deal either. ”
I frowned arguing, “She’s a Werewolf.” Drake replied, “I know but she didn’t see Peter or me in the setting around people who flirted with Sam or Chelsea. Melanie was at competitions, but she wasn’t around other packs at big meetings.”
“No one in our pack was going to challenge us for our mates. So, it’s not like Ladybug had that to see how we’d react.
We were respected and parents either worshipped us at competitions or didn’t want to talk to us because our daughter is so talented.
Melanie heard you went after Two Peaks, and I’m guessing she knew it was about her. ”
EJ answered, “Charlene told her, and Elise confirmed it.” Drake nodded, “Well, that whole thing makes so much sense now. Melanie will see that differently because they were trying to hurt her. She’s heard about Alpha’s being possessive, but there’s a difference between hearing and seeing.”
“Logically, in her mind there’s only ever been you. So, she doesn’t see the problem. She went to Black Path, and they don’t appear to do anything right by their mates. They cheat on them and keep them secluded.”
“I seriously doubt they get possessive over their mates. Hell, they probably offered them up to people that found them attractive. It’s my fault Melanie never saw those things while she was with us.
I sheltered her too much. Just try to give my daughter some understanding there. It’s not her fault.”
I sighed because his argument made sense. I explained, “I’m not mad at her. The situation just upsets me.” Drake acknowledged, “I understand. I just want you to know why Mel doesn’t understand.” I nodded knowing Oden and Drake were right.
I just had more possessiveness in my veins than the average Alpha. I had Fairy and Hackura blood running through my veins, as well as wolf. People thought Fairies weren’t possessive over people, but our family proved that was wrong.
The Fairies had just denied their lights and feelings for so long people forgot that Fairies were covetous of what was theirs. I saw my Uncle Logan waiting outside a house. He must have gone ahead of the group.
My uncle smirked at us and Micah nodded to him. Uncle Logan knocked on the door. A Demon opened up and threw Yuri out in chains. The Demon smiled saying, “Always a pleasure, Prince Logan. We killed the Demons hiding him for you as well.”
Uncle Logan handed him an envelope which definitely had money in it. The Demon hummed with satisfaction, “Such a pleasure. I’d have done this for free. I do not care for this whelp.” I recognized the man behind him.
I’d met with him before I’d been pulled from my mission with what happened with Elise.
I raised an eyebrow at him. The man teased, “I heard you cleared up your woman’s name confusion.
I can see now what you were referring to.
I’m glad that you are not with that group. We are investigating them as well.”
I replied, “I’m glad you weren’t working with them either. I quite liked you.” The Demon laughed, “All is well then.” I nodded to him. Uncle Logan opened a portal, and we stepped through to the dungeons with Yuri.
I took custody of the soon to be dead Warlock and slammed Yuri down onto the table next to Trevor’s cell.
Yuri stammered, “I was just following orders. I didn’t actually hurt Melanie.
” Trevor snorted, “Liar.” Yuri glared at Trevor lamenting, “This is your fault! You told everyone to treat her like trash!”
I snarled, “But you knew her real name before now.” Trevor answered, “Of course he did. She’s famous in our group.
Everyone in the pack knew her damn name.
It was outsiders we changed it for. We couldn’t have you all running down to save her.
It would’ve defeated the purpose in ruining a McAlister. ”
Yuri snorted, “Which you didn’t do. God, you couldn’t even do that right.” Drake warned, “Stop talking about my daughter, Trevor. There are a lot of Alpha bloods here for me to rile up. You never ruined Melanie, and even your mishap friends know that.”
I asked, “What happened to Trevor’s fated mate?” Trevor growled, “She died because she was weak.” I snorted, “You actually believe your fated mate just happened to show up on your border and die in front of you? You’re a yes man following plans, aren’t you?”
I looked at his face and rolled my eyes, “Of course you are.” Drake said, “He is and then he acts like he had anything to do with plans involving my daughter. Melanie’s intelligence easily runs circles faster than the speed of light around this pup.
” Oden agreed, “He is a pup. AN INSIPID ONE!” I agreed.
Yuri sighed. Trevor growled, “Yuri, what is Melanie’s Xander talking about?” I shouted, “YOU CALL ME THAT TOO?! FUCK OFF! MY NAME IS ALPHA DUKE ALEXANDER TO YOU!” Francis asked, “We don’t have to call you Squadron leader?” I pushed at them all while they yelped. They could fuck off.
Yuri groaned, “God, that hurts. Melanie was not joking about his light headache deal.” Oden snarled at him. Trevor demanded, “What was Alpha Alexander talking about my mate?” Yuri answered, “Your dad traveled around with your hoodie.”
Trevor asked, “Why?” Tristan scoffed, “You are not this damn stupid. Is he?” I answered, “He is. The man is mostly Gamma blood, and he doesn’t know why his own dad went around with his hoodie.
” Gage said, “On behalf of all Gamma’s, I’m offended.
” Phil snorted, “Not a Gamma blood and I’m offended with you. ”
Yuri explained, “Your dad didn’t want your fated mate to mess things up. Your mate smelled your hoodie when he was visiting her pack when I happened to be with him. Along with some others you called friends.”
Yuri shook his head saying, “Your poor mate was excited. I dare say if she knew anything about you, she wouldn’t have been.
” I scoffed, “She’d have ran the fuck away.
” Gage said, “I mean, I’d say my Alpha is being dramatic, but he’s spot on about that.
” Phil snorted, “That poor woman would’ve ran straight to Cousin Eric for asylum. ”
Yuri admitted, “You’re not far off. Trevor, your mate jumped in our car. I used a spell to knock her out and your dad called our Coven leader. Said leader came and rendered her body immobile. Your dad captured a rogue and waited for your patrol shift.”
“Then he set the rogue free while your mate was unable to defend herself. The rogue was going to kill her quickly, but you interfered and killed the rogue. So, your dad ordered the pack doctor to get to you slowly so she would bleed out in your arms.”
Phil said, “Well, Booker gets the worst dad ever award. That poor woman did absolutely nothing to you fucks.” I told Phil and Gage, “Find out who she was, Francis will probably just tell you. Then give all their damn money to her family. Fuckers.”
Trevor growled, “SHE COULD’VE BEEN SAVED?
!” Yuri snorted, “Of course she could’ve.
All your mate needed was a blood transfusion.
She got some scratches. Sure, they were deep but the rogue was supposed to go for the throat.
He didn’t. Your dad didn’t want anything to mess up the plan with you and Melanie being together, but I think he just doesn’t understand you. ”
I asked, “Does any sane person understand this bullshit?” EJ answered, “No, this is just tragic for that girl.” Gage said, “The poor woman Selene paired with him.” I scoffed, “Where was my mate when this happened? Because she would’ve saved her.”
Trevor howled in agony but didn’t answer me. Oden snarled, “ANSWER MY HUMAN!” Trevor sobbed, “Melanie was in the hole!” I snarled, “Right. That fucking hole you put my mate in stopped yours from living. Being a shitty person is really the pits.”
Yuri hummed, “I think Trevor would’ve wanted them both.
Honestly, his mate dying was probably more merciful than being with a monster like him.
” I stared at him in disbelief. EJ said, “Because living, rejecting him, and getting a second chance mate is not an option. Well, gosh that would’ve sucked ass to live. ” Oden snorted, “Such sarcasm.”
Yuri snorted, “He wouldn’t have let her go.” I said, “Like Buck didn’t let his mate go.” Gage argued, “I mean, that was different.” I knew that, I just wanted to know if they did. Yuri said, “Buck and Trevor are different.”
Trevor shouted, “Buck didn’t even let us search for her to bring her back.
He half assed a search and took a beating for it.
” I asked, “And where was my mate during that? Because she wouldn’t have let it happen.
” Phil groaned, “You gotta stop asking good questions that are going to detonate the room, cousin.” No.
