Chapter 10 Not Said in Centuries #2
I hugged my wife as she just kept crying. Hastein said, “K, I think you undersold how much my cousin’s mate likes Christmas.” Kingsley sighed, “Mel just wants to have a normal moment. She feels like Selene hates her because she can never have one.”
“Consider the evidence. We tried to go Christmas shopping and got ambushed for god’s sake. Then she goes into heat way later than any other marked she wolves would. Mel’s heat just happens to be on her favorite holiday? I’m with Mel on this one. Selene is a vindictive bitch.”
Hastein snorted, “We’ve all come to that conclusion.
I guess Melanie’s reaction does make sense.
” I told them, “Oden told me she would emotionally unbalanced for a full day after her heat finished.” Hastein snorted, “Just what we need. You’re going to have to keep everyone away from her.
She’s too damn smart for anyone to piss her off for the next twenty four hours. She could bankrupt them or something.”
Kingsley laughed, “That’s true, she could.” Kingsley paused before adding, “Switching topics, it’s a tradition among the core friend group that we all go pick a tree, decorate it, and drink. It’s actually a lot of fun and Melanie loves it.”
I vowed, “I’ll get her a tree. My wife can pick any tree she wants. Hell, she can have a whole house full of them.” Kingsley smiled saying, “That would make Mel happy.” When Melanie calmed down, I explained I’d make this happen.
I felt my mate’s hope and excitement. Mom had always snapped our trees, but if Melanie wanted to go pick one out that wasn’t a problem. I could conjure her a Christmas tree farm. This was easy. It took all three of us, but we convinced Melanie the date on the calendar didn’t matter; the people did.
I could tell she still wished it had been the day of, but she agreed that the people mattered. I linked Dalton, “You all definitely undersold how much my mate loves Christmas.” Dalton replied, “No, we didn’t.”
I replied, “Well, nothing you guys EVER said prepared me for my sobbing, inconsolable mate because she missed Christmas.” Dalton growled in reply, “Fuck Selene for taking that from Ladybug.” I snorted, “Agreed. Kingsley pointed out Melanie went into heat a lot later than other marked she wolves. It feels intentional at this point.” Dalton agreed, “It really does. Fuck that goddess bitch.” No joke.
We teased my wife about the food. I was impressed that she knew I liked ham sandwiches. I was aware that Jason knew that, but it was an obscure detail my mate held onto. Melanie must have just made a mental note about me like I had done when people talked about her. It was adorable and endearing.
Oden purred, “Mate always loved us.” I’d wished for the millionth time that we’d met sooner. Hell, I should’ve insisted. Melanie moved on to where we were. I was imagining she guessed, but I told her anyway.
I had to voice my curiosity that Kingsley had found her.
Hastein could’ve portaled her here from his island.
Neither of them were wet from swimming, so that had to be how they got here.
It would’ve been complicated to find Melanie though.
My wife was a really fast runner, and my island wasn’t small.
Oden jolted, “Um she’s going to tell us what she is.
Her counterpart, Kayda, contacted me.” Holy shit.
Kingsley was actually going to tell me. Oden said, “Your promise means a lot to Kayda.” I asked, “And Kayda is?” Oden answered, “Not a wolf. I don’t know what group would call us a non-roastable. ” What?
My anticipation was so high right now because I was that curious about what Kingsley was. God, this had to be killing Phil if I’m this interested in what she is. Hastein smirked at me while Melanie felt excited.
Kingsley let her eyes go purple. PURPLE?! What the fuck had purple eyes? Oden answered, “I don’t know.” I was fairly certain no mammal had purple eyes. Maybe a reptile but I didn’t think so. Oden snorted, “Reptiles don’t roast people.” Fair enough.
How the HELL had I missed her eyes going purple? I was pretty observant. It was in my blood as both an Alpha and a Hackura. Oden snorted, “You know the answer because I do.” I agreed, “Yeah as soon as I said it the answer was clear to me. Melanie.”
My mate had talked about her contacts she’d developed. She may have developed them with the Hackura in mind, but they worked for Kingsley too. My cousin’s mate began to shift, which wasn’t shocking since I knew she’d have to. Kayda existed.
I jolted seeing Kingsley now had scales and horns. My mind blanked. HOLY MOTHER FUCKING SHIT! My heart actually stopped as my knees buckled so hard I fell to the ground. I stared in awe at the giant, beautiful Dragon before me.
Kingsley was a Dragon. An actual fucking Dragon was in front of me. Uncle Aiden had been right all this time, they’d never died off. Those assholes never reached out, but Kingsley was in the human realm alone until she met my mate.
Those motherfuckers could’ve had her with Uncle Aiden! He would’ve had her in Faerie and the Hackura realm. Kingsley would’ve met Hastein so much sooner, and we’d have been brought into the Resistance. What the hell?!
Oden sounded stunned when he offered, “Mate did say she knew a Dragon.” Melanie had said that, but my mate did NOT say that the Dragon she knew was my cousin's mate. A purple Dragon which meant royalty.
Oden offered, “Kayda is a purple and white Dragon.” I replied, “You know as I do from what Uncle Aiden taught us, that means she’s a Princess.
Those jerks sent her to the human realm instead of reaching out to Uncle Aiden.
Dragons can’t fly around in the damn human realm, but they can IN FAERIE!
” Oden agreed, “They do seem to suck since she’s royal and Uncle Aiden is reaching out to the royal family. ” That’s what I was saying.
Oh my god. Kingsley was an actual dragon. Before I could process that Melanie had climbed on Kayda’s back and they took off into the air. I snapped myself and Hastein a whiskey. Hastein laughed, “Where were you when I found out? I needed a damn whiskey.”
I muttered, “A Dragon. Your mate is an actual Royal Dragon.” Hastein smirked, “I know.” I asked, “Who else knows what she is?” Hastein answered, “You, me, your Fairy Uncle and Melanie.” I started to laugh. Then I said, “Uncle Bjourn and Aunt Astrid don’t know?” Hastein shook his head.
I pointed out, “Kayda is flying around, H. Someone will see her. Might I advise telling them she’s a Dragon before someone sees her flying.” Hastein explained, “I ordered everyone away from both of our islands. No one is close enough to see Kayda.”
“I’m sure Kingsley will be telling my family after this since she told you. The reveal is going to be on her timeline. Kayda loves being able to fly though. Melanie has an enchanted building that looks like the sky that Paige fixed up.”
“It’s helped keep K and Kayda calm, but she’s loved being outdoors. She’s been flying in my sanctuary a lot. I think it’s been nice for them, and I love that I’m able to provide that. I’ve known since the dance and let me say riding a Dragon, flying in the skies like that is something.”
I commented, “You’re angry, cousin.” Hastein clenched his jaw acknowledging, “I’m pissed that my mate has been alone all this time. K’s memories are coming back to her since we are together now. I just don’t understand what the fuck happened.”
“Kingsley shouldn’t have been alone until Melanie found her. My mate was shifting in secret and walking around. Melanie found her because she was following Hunters who happened upon her. They saw my mate, who would’ve handled them. It just shouldn’t have happened.”
I asked, “Why was Melanie following Hunters?” Hastein snorted, “They were coming for you. So, your mate killed them when they found Kayda.” I took a big gulp of my whiskey. I said, “Not to make you angrier, but Uncle Aiden has always been right.”
Hastein ground out, “I know.” I pointed, “I know the colors of Dragons and what they mean. Bradley is super obsessed with all things Dragon. Purple means she’s a Princess. So, Uncle Aiden has been reaching out to the Royal family all these years. They could’ve had him waiting for her.”
Hastein’s anger bounced in the bond. I continued, “If he’d have met her, since Dragon’s are quite close with how this realm views things, he’d have had her here. We would’ve had K with you and that would’ve brought Melanie in. I’m fucking pissed about that for them both.”
Hastein agreed, “I’m furious about it myself.
I don’t think there is a way around me punching people in the face when we meet them.
” I chuckled, “I have good news for you.” Hastein asked, “What?” I replied, “My mate has a way of making things happen for the people I love. Melanie will engineer a way for that to happen. If what Jase used to say is true, she’ll even use their own rules and laws against them to accomplish it.
” Hastein threw his head back and laughed, but I could tell he knew I was serious.
I looked at him saying, “A Dragon. We are seeing literal history fly around us. They are alive, among us, and one is even mated to you. This is crazy and awesome. K’s a Dragon.” Hastein smirked, “My mate is a Dragon.”
Our mates came back, and Melanie shifted into Freya. Kayda actually really seemed to like Freya. Oden told me, “Kayda calls mate her pet. It’s a high honor.” Alright then. Hastein and I watched as they played together.
There was a joke in there somewhere. A Dragon and a Werewolf started to frolic on an island. I didn’t know how it ended, but it was probably funny. Oden snorted, “Fang could finish the joke.” Yes, he easily could. Dylan lived for moments like this.
EJ linked me, “Are you ok? The feelings from you in the bond tell me you’re in shock.” I snorted, “Yeah, well when you know what I know you’ll be in shock too. I’m fine. Feel free to pass that around.” EJ answered, “That’s weird but ok. I’m glad you’re not hurt though.”
