Chapter Twenty-Six
Harshal
Today has been a long day of classes for me and the day still isn’t over, I also have to go to work today, something my Dark Angel loathes.
Speaking of my Dark Angel he didn’t come to class today because he wanted to stay home to figure out ways to keep me safe while helping his father with other things.
Having him in our shared math class would have been refreshing but I was all alone while the teacher gave the class lectures about loans and other boring things.
I’m waiting outside in one of the schools parking lots for Wraith to come pick me up and take me to work when I get a text message from an unknown number.
Frowning I look at the number and really try to see if I recognize the number, but I truly don’t.
Whoever it is sent me a video of something.
I’m about to ignore the message and block the number when my gut feelings scream at me to open the message.
Sighing I listen to my gut feelings and open the message.
It’s a video of Wraith on his motorcycle with a couple of red dots on his back.
He weaves through the traffic and the dots stay consistent on his back, with him being unaware.
My phone then rings from the unknown number.
I jump at first but then recollect myself, forcing myself to swallow past the lump in my throat.
Tentatively I slide my finger across the screen and answer the phone.
“Hello?” I greet.
“Harshal, hello young man.” A man’s voice greets me.
But it’s not just any man, it’s Jamies voice. I recognize it from the video of my grandfather’s murder. I fight the tears that prick my eyes at the memory of that video.
“What do you want Jamie?” I ask.
“Oh, you know who I am good.” He chirps.
I roll my eyes.
“You do know if Wraith pulls up and discovers me talking to you he’ll kill you right?” I ask.
I look around me to make sure I’m safe for the time being. My ears prick up all of a sudden when Jamie speaks. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up and goosebumps decorate my skin as an eerie feeling dances over my entire being.
“You have to be on sight to be killed just like you have to be alive for a bullet to take your life.” He says.
I give a tight smile like he can see me.
“Clever.” I remark sarcastically.
“Listen, I know exactly where you are right now and I’m not going to kill you, I promise—”
“I have to know you well to accept a promise from you and I don’t know you so that promise of yours can go fuck itself!” I interrupt.
Jamie chuckles.
“I’m offended, really.” He says calmly. “But I think it’s best you listen to what the fuck I have to say to you or that little boyfriend of yours dies.”
My phone chimes with another text message and its another video of Wraith on his motorcycle, the red dots are now gone as he enters the school campus.
“Your little boyfriend is giving you a ride to work am I correct?”
“How did you—”
“Am I... correct?” Jamie growls furiously.
“Yes.” I whisper.
“Tell him you’ve changed your mind and you want to go to the address sent to your phone now.” Jamie says. “You do that and I’ll let you live in the end.”
“And if I don’t?” I ask through gritted teeth.
“I’ll capture both you and your boyfriend, torture him in front of you before I force you to kill him, framing you for his murder, I promise.”
The line then goes dead as Wraith comes into view. My phone dings with the address and I stare down at it before Wraith stops right in front of me. I look up at him and he flips his visor up with a smile on his handsome face.
“Hi.” he beams.
I give a little smile and wave as I walk toward him. He grabs a secondary helmet and places it on my head. As he does so I stare down at the address splayed out on my screen.
“Helmet kiss.” He says.
We bump helmets as if we were kissing and he looks down at my phone.
“What’s this?” he asks.
I contemplate my next move before deciding to protect my Dark Angel.
“A place I want to check out before I head to work.” I lie.
He tries to look me in the eyes but I quickly shut the visor of my helmet and hop on the back of the bike.
“Okay...” he says slowly. “What’s the address?”
I have a bad feeling about this.
***
The address leads us to an old brick building with a serious issue with its pipes.
“Why did you want to come here?” Wraith asks. “How’d you even find out about it?”
“One of my classes.” I lie.
The lies I spew to him taste bitter with every syllable that leaves my lips and each time I lie I fight the urge to shudder, afraid I’ll give myself away.
“What the fuck were y’all doing in class today?” Wraith asks. “Is this a homework assignment?”
I open my mouth to answer when I see someone move inside the abandoned building. I told myself I was doing this to keep my Dark Angel safe but... I don’t think so anymore. A guy comes out of the building with a shot gun on display. I watch as he approaches us.
“Follow me.” he says.
“Fuck you, I don’t know you.” Wraith says.
The guy shoots the tires of Wraith’s motorcycle.
“Come with me now!” the man shouts.
“The fuck, man!” Wraith shouts, pulling his gun out and pointing it at the man.
A bullet flies our way and knocks the gun out of Wraiths hand.
Wraith hisses as he wrings out his hand.
His hand is bleeding, fuck he got nicked!
Looking up I don’t see anyone but I know whoever shot at him had to be above us somewhere.
Wraith places his bike on its stand before charging after the guy.
They tumble and tussle when more men come running out.
Getting off the bike I run towards them and grab a rusty pipe.
Charging at one of the men with the pipe I hit him in the gut, the sharp pieces of the broken pipe slitting his stomach open.
He falls to the ground, holding his open stomach.
Swinging back around I knock another man in the head.
One guy kicks me in the center of my back, causing me to stumble forward. Another guy kicks my knee in and I fall to the ground. Wraith punches the guy with the shotgun, knocking him out before coming over to help me.
“Don’t fucking touch what doesn’t belong to you!” Wraith shouts, laying punch after punch after punch to one of the men that attacked me.
Wraith backs the man up into a corner, furiously punching the man to no end.
Another guy tries to kick me but I catch his leg, twist it, and bend it in an abnormal way, breaking his leg.
He shouts in pain as he grabs his now broken leg.
The last guy standing lunges for me and I duck out the way.
He stumbles and lands on the other guys broken leg.
Grabbing the discarded shotgun, which I’m guessing belonged to the guy who shot Wraiths tire, I use it to knock both of them out.
Turning around I look at Wraith and my heart drops.
The guy we first encountered is a tough guy because he somehow has risen and is behind Wraith with a knife in his hand.
“Wraith!” I shout.
Wraith stops pummeling the guy he has cornered and turns around.
As if in a flash the guy slices Wraiths throat, blood instantly squirting out of his neck.
My blood runs cold and my vision turns red as I aim the shotgun at the man and shoot him dead in the head.
I don’t know how I did it, but I did, and the guy falls to the ground, but so does Wraith.
“Wraith!” I mumble running over to him.
I cover his wound, his warm blood coating my hands as I apply pressure to the wound.
He’s still conscious but he’s lost a lot of blood.
Reaching into my pocket I go to grab my phone to call an ambulance but then think of a better idea, I did just kill a man and all of this drama will not sit well with the police.
Ripping my shirt over my head I tear a piece off and tie it to his wound.
Once I’m satisfied with the fabric around his neck I search his body for his phone.
I feel his hand reach for my body and he runs his palm down my smooth front.
“So sexy.” He rasps.
“Don’t speak.” I demand.
“My sexy baby.” He rasps once more before passing out.
No! Finally finding his phone I pull it out and frantically search his call log. I find his fathers number and call him. It rings for a moment and I pray that he picks up soon.
“What’s up son?” Guildford’s voice says, giving me the comfort I didn’t know I needed.
“Guildford!” I cry.
“Harshal?” he asks.
“Come... come to me now, it’s Wraith, he’s—it’s all my fault—I’m sorry.” I cry as tears roll down my cheek.
“I’m on my way.” He says before hanging up.
He didn’t ask for my location but I send him it anyway just in case.
I mean Julian can easily trace the call and find our location but that’ll take time and right now we don’t have time.
Right now all I can do is follow medical procedures until Guildford gets here.
I hug Wraith’s limp body and cry into his chest.
“I’m sorry.” I whisper through my tears, feeling my chest crack like the dry dirt of a thirsty dessert with each passing second.
I close my eyes and squeeze his shirt with all my might.
“This is all my fault... I should have... I was trying to protect you, and he made me lead you into a trap and I won’t forgive myself if you die. ”
I sob and wipe my nose as my heart shatters in front of me. I can’t lose him not after I lost my grandfather.
“My Dark Angel, please, please come back to me.” I continue to cry. “I need you... I still want you... I love you... come back, come back, come back.”
I thought I was protecting him and all I did was put him in danger—or more accurately laid him in his death bed...
