Chapter Thirty-Four
Wraith
“What do you mean he’s the reason Ezmeraldain De’Verde were after Gr—Harshal because of this man?” I ask, nodding towards Elijah.
Jamie smiles. “When you’re a man who wins a bunch of money in a casino who wouldn’t want to go after what they truly desire?”
What the fuck? How the hell did he get out of jail, find Grey Eyes, and win it big in a casino without getting caught?
Then it hits me. Ezmeraldain De’Verde were never after Grey Eyes because of the reason we thought they were.
They were after him because of his father and their partnership with Jamie. I chuckle darkly, shaking my head.
“You’re fucking pussy, y’know that?” I say, looking Elijah dead in his eyes. “You couldn’t find your flesh and blood on your own, so you paid off a dangerous gang to go after him?”
I actually laugh at him.
“I needed connections, this is a big fucking world, he could have been anywhere. But instead, he’s here with you, being a little gay slut for you.” Elijah says.
I ball my hands into fists and charge after Elijah. Dad tries to hold me back but I escape his grip and punch Elijah in his fucking mouth.
“Wrath!” I hear Dad shout after me, but I ignore him.
“Call him a gay slut or a slut one more time I fucking dare you!” I growl in his face, his mouth bleeding.
Jamie chuckles. “You’ve always been a feisty one.”
“He’s my fucking son, I can call him whatever I fucking want.” Elijah says.
“He’s not your fucking son.” I state. “Because if you truly wanted him you wouldn’t have treated him like you did and left him motherless. He’s mine now, you’ve lost your chance to love him, not that you every would.”
Elijah grinds his molars and steps further into my face, the tip of our noses touching.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” He says.
“Denial is your best friend isn’t it?” I ask. “I bet you tried to plead innocent in the courthouse before you were sentenced to jail.”
He goes to punch me but I catch his fist. With my grip on said fist I yank his arm hard before connecting my knee with his stomach. He falls to his own knees coughing.
“Enough!” Jamie shouts, grabbing my attention.
When I look at him I see that Grey Eyes has been placed back in the car, away from me. Shit.
“I’ve decided to negotiate with you.” Jamie says, looking at Dad and I. “Since you’ve refused to leave the country like I’ve asked you to, despite me having the power to kill one of your loved ones I have a task for you to do for me, then and only then will I return your precious boy to you.”
“What is this task and why can’t you do it?” Dad asks.
Jamie is silent for a moment before shrugging.
“I have my reasons.” He responds. “And you won’t know until you meet me at this address...”
He pulls out a green flashcard and hands it to me.
“Tomorrow.” He continues.
“And if we refuse?” I ask.
Jamie shrugs.
“Then I will kill him.” Jamie says.
I look back at Elijah.
“You’re going to let this man do this to your own fucking son?” I ask.
“To pay off a debt I owe to him... hell yeah.” Elijah responds his voice raspy. “Also, who said I wasn’t part of the fun?”
And the father of the year award goes to this asshat of a man.
I want to kick his ass right now, but I know I shouldn’t, so I refrain.
At least for now. Dad clears his throat and gestures for me to come where he is.
I do, hesitantly. It kills me that I can’t get to my Angel with how close we are to each other, but I know if I try to get to him it won’t go so well.
“We agree to your terms, Jamie.” Dad says. “And once this is done there is no more turmoil between my family and yours, understand?”
Jamie smiles, getting back in the car.
“We’ll see about that.” He says. “Only the future will tell and who wants to spoil the future, am I right?”
The rest of the men—men I didn’t recognize were around us until now—get in the car as well and we watch them drive off. Fuck!
***
I can’t sleep. When Jamie left us at the bar I immediately looked up the address he gave us and discovered that he wants us to meet him at some building at the border of the city Las Vegas, it looks like some mansion or something.
I’m sure the pictures on the map don’t do it justice.
Dad didn’t like the entire vibe the situation was giving off, but we need to get Grey Eyes back.
Even if I wasn’t intoxicated by the love that is his we still need to get him back because he wouldn’t be there had it not been for me. It would be the right thing to do.
It’s now the middle of the night and I can’t fucking sleep. Sliding out of bed I grab my zip up hoodie to cover my bare torso and walk out to the kitchen.
“You can’t sleep either?” a female voice asks.
Freezing mid-step I look at the kitchen table and see Halah sitting there, eating a bag of spicy chips. Her phone is propped up in front of her as she watches some action movie.
“It’s just me, I didn’t mean to alarm you.” She adds casually.
She pops a chip in her mouth and crunches on it.
“No.” I say, my voice coming out a little rough.
“Hm.” She smiles. “Me either. You can’t sleep because you’re thinking about that boy of yours.”
I go sit in front of her.
“And why can’t you sleep?” I ask.
She shrugs. “Adrenaline rush is my assumption.”
Her eyes are glued to her phone just as gunshots sound from the speakers.
“I can’t wait to sink my teeth in that asshat.” She says.
“You and me both.” I huff leaning back in my chair.
“Not to worry though, daybreak is just three and a half hours away.” She says.
I’m silent for a moment.
“I guess the saying of good things comes to those who wait shall prove itself to me soon.” I grunt before getting up and walking into the kitchen.
I grab a doughnut before heading out back. I head to the exact same spot Grey Eyes and I slept the last time we were here. I sit down and look up at the stars as I eat my snack. I see many shooting stars and for the first time in my life I make a wish on one of them.
I wish that I’m able to give Grey Eyes the justice that he deserves and the justice that shows him that my mind, body, and soul inevitably and irrevocably belongs to him and only him.
With that I was able to fall asleep in the exact same spot we did before.
