Chapter 30
CHAPTER 30
NIGEL
I groan as I flop down on the bed in the hotel room I’ve been staying at for the past week. I rip the baseball cap off my head before tossing it across the room.
This entire trip has been for nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Her trail went cold two days ago and I’ve been fighting with myself to keep going. Maybe I just overlooked something and I’ll find another trail, but no.
Why the hell am I torturing myself like this? I have my own family at home waiting for me to come back and instead of being there with them, I’m chasing the family that abandoned me when I was a kid.
I pick up my phone to call Beth for the first time since I’ve been gone. I feel shitty for not staying in contact, but I knew if I called her, I’d abandon everything I’ve been trying to do to go back to her.
Now, my hope is just gone.
It rings a few times, but then when the phone picks up, it’s quiet for a moment. I know it’s the middle of the night where she is, but she usually answers quickly once she picks up the phone, even when she was just asleep.
“Butterfly, you there?” I ask, a little concerned.
Then, I hear it.
A loud, ear shattering scream, one I’ve never heard her make before. She sounds like she’s in horrible pain.
I jump from my seat, ready to call whoever I can to find out what the hell is happening, but then the voice of my best friend breaks through the receiver.
“Be careful, princess. You might scare the neighbors.”
Only three words register in my brain as I listen closely.
What.
The.
Fuck.
Then, my woman laughs. “Like you care what my neighbors will think. Oh, fuck!” she moans and that’s when I fully grasp what is happening on the other end of the phone.
They’re having sex. Okay. That doesn’t bother me. There was a while where we shared women in bed quite often and I’ve made it clear that I don’t mind him and Beth hooking up. However, hearing it is a whole different thing.
I never expected to hear it or hear the loving tone injected into her voice when she spoke to him.
I thought she hated him?
She never actually said she did, but every time I’ve seen her look at Ollie, there was a mixture of fear and anger in her eyes.
“Tell me,” he growls. “Who’s pussy is this?”
It’s mine. I’ve made it crystal clear that every inch of her belongs to me. She is mine.
“Yours,” she moans and my eyes widen.
What the fuck did she just say?
“Yeah? All mine?”
“All yours,” she rasps. “It belongs to you.”
That’s the point where I end the call and barely manage to not crush my phone in my hand. I haven’t even been gone for two weeks. Sure, the communication has been lacking, but what the fuck? Ollie is my best friend and Beth is mine!
Period.
End of story.
No one is allowed to have a spot in her heart except for me and maybe the ex-boyfriend, Shawn, because well…he’s dead. He can’t claim her from the grave.
I’m rather attached to Ollie so I can’t just kill him to get him out the way. I’d do that if it was anyone else. It’s like she cherry picked the perfect person that I can’t dispose of.
Decisions.
Decisions.
All I know for sure is one thing. It’s time for me to go home and remind Beth who owns her, body and soul.
