27. "No, I'm saying you're going to turn me into a murderer today."
I woke up on something firm and warm. It felt so good, I found myself clutching it tighter and moaning at the lovely feeling. I rubbed my cheek against the warm and hard object, unable to recall the bed feeling that comfortable before.
A low groan rumbled from beneath me, making my eyes snap open. I blinked in confusion. The bed beneath me moved slightly, confusing me even more.
Is there an earthquake?
Slowly, I lifted my head to see what was going on. My mouth gaped open as I met Aiden's sleepy dark brown eyes. "Good morning, little one." He spoke groggily.
I blinked rapidly, before gasping as realisation hit me.
I was on top of him!
He let out a groan of protest as I moved away quickly, my cheeks burning up.
"Come back." He uttered sleepily.
My blush deepened. "N-no."
Apparently I had rolled over the pillow and straight on to his body.
"H-how long was I on top of you?" I asked shyly.
He sat up. "I don't know. I just woke up."
I bit my lip, looking down at the sheets to avoid looking at him.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw him poke the pillow I had placed between us. "Pillows clearly don't hold you back, little one. We should try building a concrete wall." He teased.
My cheeks heated up again. "I need to pee." I announced, getting out of bed and instantly vanishing into the bathroom.
After using the bathroom, I returned to the bedroom and found Aiden doing something on his laptop. I leaned against the wall, watching him.
"Should I make breakfast?" I asked him.
"Stay here. I already told Catherine to make breakfast." He replied.
"Okay."
He turned to look at me, appearing relaxed and serene. "I didn't have any nightmares last night," He revealed. "Maybe it's a sign that you should sleep with me."
"If it'll keep the nightmares at bay, I'm willing to." I told him with a smile.
His phone rang, making him sigh agitatedly and turn his attention to it. I stayed by the wall, fiddling with my fingers as he answered it.
"Hello?... I told you not to call me, didn't I? I'll call you if I the need be." He spoke, causing curiosity to bubble within me. Who was he talking to?
And then he hung up.
The words 'who was that' were at the tip of my tongue when a knock on the door sounded, followed by the message that our breakfast was ready, making me drop the decision of asking him.
We ate breakfast in silence, and once we were done, I asked him if we could go out somewhere.
"Like on a date?" He smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "No. I just want to go out. I feel so trapped."
"You're not trapped. You're safe and protected. You can't go out, Aysel. You know why." He replied.
I sighed. "Yeah, but... never mind. You're right."
I felt his eyes on me as I played with the hem of my dress.
"Fine. How does the mall sound?" He spoke up almost a couple minutes later.
I looked up at him in surprise. "But it's not safe?"
"That fool can't touch a hair on your body while I'm around." He asserted.
I bit my lip as my heart fluttered in my chest.
"So I can go get ready?" I asked, excitement bubbling in my stomach. I didn't know if it was the idea of going out after so long exciting me, or going out with him.
He nodded. "I'll do a quick call with my employees while you get ready, okay?"
I nodded readily, beaming, before excitedly running upstairs. Rummaging through my stuff, I found a cute yellow sundress that reached just above my knees. With that, I grabbed a pair of white sneakers and went to the bathroom to get dressed.
When I stepped back into the room, I found Aiden standing by his desk, going through his phone. I stood a few feet away by the wall, waiting for him to notice me.
He did, exactly a minute later. I watched his eyes travel slowly from my face down to my sneaker-clad feet, before they looked straight into my eyes. I felt frozen by the way he stared at me.
"You're wearing that?" He uttered after what felt like an eternity.
My excitement faltered a little. Does he not like it? "Do I not look good?" I asked softly.
"You look too good. You'll be attracting all the attention." He said.
I snickered, blushing a little. "That is not true."
"It certainly is," he spoke, his voice dangerously low. I stood still as he started slowly walking up to me. Tilting my head backwards, I looked up at him as he stood in front of me. A little too close. "It's short. I wonder what will happen when you bend over."
I blushed. "It's not that short... are you saying I should change?"
He shook his head. "No, I'm saying you're going to turn me into a murderer today."
I snorted in an attempt to hide how his words were affecting me, making me feel pretty and special. "Shall we go now?"
"Yes." He replied, taking the lead and walking through the door with me right behind him.
We settled into his car, and he started driving towards the mall.
"Did you always want to be a doctor?" He asked after a few minutes of silence.
"Yes! I always used to say that I'd become a doctor when I grow up. I like making people feel good." I gushed.
He kept his eyes on the road as he spoke. "You're too good for this world."
I snickered. "No. I'm just a normal, kind hearted person."
I thought I saw a ghost of smile on his face. "Are you looking to buy anything from the mall?"
"Window shopping sounds great." I told him.
"You have a breathing ATM next to you and you don't want to buy anything?" He smirked.
I rolled my eyes. "I have a paid job and have been living just fine without this breathing ATM for a long time."
He snickered softly. "Okay, little one."
I cleared my throat. "What are you doing about finding Liam?"
His expression changed from relaxed and playful to one reflecting anger. "My men are working on it." His tone was now cold.
I licked my lips, playing with my hands in my lap. I hadn't meant to ruin the mood, but I needed reassurance that he would find that pathetic guy and put him through the same hell he put us through.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ruin the mood." I said softly, keeping my eyes on my lap.
I saw him unclench his jaw from the corner of my eyes, before he let out a sigh. "It's okay, Aysel."
We continued the ride in silence for the next several minutes, until he pulled into the parking lot of the mall. Once he had parked, he walked to my side and helped me step out.
I was shrieking internally as he kept a hold on my hand as we stepped into the mall, seeming to have no intention of letting go.
"Where do you want to go first?" He asked, looking around while maintaining a firm hold on my hand.
I shrugged, before spotting a gift shop. My eyes zeroed in on a cute, little snow globe in the window. "Can we go there?" I asked, pointing at the store with my gaze.
"Of course." He replied.
We entered the store, and I went straight for the snow globe, picking it up. "You like that?" Aiden asked, standing right behind me.
I nodded readily. "I want to buy this for you. It will look good on your desk."
He snickered softly. "For me?"
I turned to beam at him. "Yes!"
A ghost of a smile played at his lips. "We can get it, but only if I pay."
I instantly shook my head. "It's my gift for you, so I'll pay for it."
Before he could argue any further, I started walking to the cash register. After paying for it, I handed him the bag, and we stepped out of the store.
"You'll keep it on your desk, won't you?" I looked up at him hopefully as we walked.
He looked down at me, the corner of his lip lifting up into a lopsided smile. "Yes, I will, Aysel. Thank you."
A big smile spread over my face, and a wave of warmth washed over me as his big hand once again enveloped mine.
"Oh look, Aysel," he pointed with his head to a store. A lingerie store. "We should buy you some sets." He teased.
I could feel blood rushing to my cheeks. "Will you ever have some shame?"
"What's shameful about buying your pretty, little roommate lingerie?" He asked casually, playfulness evident in his tone.
"Roommate?"
"In case you haven't figured out, that's what we are now. Roommates." He replied.
I bit my lip, a weird but good feeling churning in my stomach. "Let's get coffee."
"Lingerie first." He objected.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I am not going into a lingerie store with you." I deadpanned.
He feigned being offended. "Oh but little o—"
"Sir?" A female voice sounded from behind us, cutting Aiden off.
I frowned at the interruption. We both turned around, and when I saw who had showed up behind us, I almost huffed in annoyance.
She took a few steps towards us until she was close enough to converse with Aiden. "I'm surprised to see you at the mall. You were never one to," her gaze settled a little too long on our intertwined hands, before it returned to Aiden's impassive face. "Shop." She finished her sentence.
My lips parted in surprise, my heart twisting in jealousy as she stepped closer to Aiden, aiming her lips at his. To add to my surprise, Aiden moved his face away before her lips could meet his.
"Luna," he glared at her. "You realise we're in public, right?"
She took a step back, a frown forming on her face as her gaze now directed at me. "You..." she started. I looked back at her giving away no emotion. She then looked back at Aiden. "You'd rather be with this ugly bitch?"
My jaw dropped. The audacity. "Excuse you, I'm certainly not ugly."
"Luna," Aiden's glare intensified. "Behave yourself and get lost."
Before she could react, he started pulling me in the opposite direction, away from her.
"Wow. She clearly is a lot more into you than you are into her." I stated sarcastically once we were a fair distance away.
Aiden's grip on my hand tightened. "I don't want to talk about her."
"You should make it up to her with a date or something." I said, my insides twisting in a strange mix of jealousy and possessiveness. Over someone I had no rights on.
"Aysel," he shot me a stern look. "Don't talk about her."
I looked ahead, shutting my mouth, when I noticed that he was taking me towards a coffee shop.
"We're having coffee?" My eyes lit up.
"Yes." He replied, but before we could proceed, his phone started ringing.
He sighed, taking it out of his pocket and checking the caller ID. "I need to take this. Go in and order. I'll be right there."
"Okay. What will you have?" I asked.
"Espresso. And here, take this." He answered, handing me a black American Express card.
"I can buy." I protested.
"Aysel," he shot me stern look. "I know you can, but use this right now, and don't argue."
I huffed, taking the card from him. The moment I did, he attended the call.
I stepped into the coffee shop, while he stayed outside to speak on the phone. After ordering, I waited for our coffees to get ready. "Can you bring these upstairs?" I asked the barista as I saw him placing our cups on a tray.
He gave me a displeased look. "Self service, miss." He said a little too rudely.
And there went my sensitive little heart. Getting hurt at the tone he used. I was pathetic sometimes. But, he could have used a more civil tone.
"Self service, huh?" I heard Aiden's voice behind me, before he stood right behind me towering over me and the barista.
"M-mr. Knight, welcome. Yes. You see, the rules—"
"The rules?" Aiden raised an eyebrow. I jumped slightly as he suddenly placed his hands on the slab in front, on either side of me. His eyes glared straight into the barista's eyes who now looked like a deer caught in headlights. "Do the rules tell you to speak in that tone as well?"
"N-no, sir, actually—"
"Carry the tray." Aiden commanded, the dominance in his tone sending a shiver down my spine.
I blinked in surprise as the barista instantly complied.
"Now take it upstairs." Aiden ordered.
I gulped, clearing my throat. "Aiden, it's okay—"
He put his hand up, indicating me to stay silent.
I pressed my lips together.
"Not the elevator," Aiden interjected as the guy headed for the elevator with the tray in his hands. "Take the stairs," He pointed to the staircase with his ice cold stare. "To the third floor."
I stood frozen on the spot as the guy fearfully obeyed Aiden, taking the stairs with the tray in his hands. Turning towards Aiden, I took in his cold expression.
"What was the need to do that?" I asked quietly, dragging my feet on the ground behind him as he headed to the elevator.
"Nobody speaks to you that way." He stated once we were inside the elevator.
I gaped at him, and before I could respond, the elevator doors opened on the third floor. I stepped out after him and saw the barista standing next to a table, looking pale and nervous. I was surprised he made it there before us.
"Carry it to that one." Aiden pointed to a table next to the glass windows in the corner.
"Y-yes, sir." He obeyed, carrying the tray to that table.
"A-anything else, sir?" He stammered once he set the tray down.
I looked at Aiden in surprise as he pulled my chair out and helped me in.
"Leave." He said coldly to the guy, and he wasted no time in taking off. I was sure he was relieved to be out of his presence.
"That was... not nice." I said awkwardly, stirring my iced coffee with its straw.
He remained impassive. "Forget about him."
I cleared my throat, taking a sip of my drink. "Do you want?"
He eyed my drink judgementally. "What is that?"
I almost laughed. "An iced coffee? Is that an alien concept to you?"
He rolled his eyes. "I mean what flavour?"
"Caramel!" My reply was too enthusiastic.
He made a face. "I can't be having that."
I knitted my eyebrows together. "Why not? It's one of the best flavours. Here. Try." I pushed my drink towards him.
He seemed to think before giving in. It seemed so sensual, the way his lips wrapped around the straw where mine had been. It caused a rush of heat to spread through me. Very soon I would be getting enticed at him simply breathing.
"Too sweet." He remarked, handing it back to me.
I rolled my eyes. "You have horrible taste buds."
He didn't reply as he took a sip of his espresso, his eyes roaming outside the windows.
"The weather's so nice today, isn't it?" I asked, noticing the clouds outside.
"I guess."
"We should go for a walk after this." I suggested.
"Not safe." He denied instantly.
I pressed my lips together, nodding in understanding.
"After Liam is taken care of, we'll go on as many walks as you want, okay?" He said gently, his eyes softening as they settled on me.
A smile spread on my face. "Okay!"
The next few minutes, we sat having our coffee in silence.
"What kind of movies do you like?" I asked him randomly.
"I don't really watch movies a lot, but I do like crime documentaries." Was his reply.
I snickered. "Of course you do."
He snorted in response, taking another sip of his coffee.
"What do you do for fun?"
He seemed to ponder. "Work."
"Oh God. Why do you lead such a boring life?" I asked incredulously.
He sighed. "I haven't felt like doing much all these years. I've been immersing myself in work to keep my invasive thoughts away."
I bit my lip, feeling sad for him. "I'll help you have fun."
He snickered softly. "Sure."
"We should go to an amusement park sometime." I suggested excitedly.
He scrunched up his eyebrows. "I can't be seen at an amusement park, Aysel."
I gave him a lame look. "Live a little."
"That's perfect to tarnish my reputation." He stated.
I huffed, rolling my eyes. "You're unbelievable... I will definitely drag you to an amusement park one day."
"I'd like to see you try." He smirked.
I rolled my eyes again, putting the straw in my mouth again.
"Hey," I set my almost empty cup down. "I need to use the bathroom. I'll be right back."
"I'll come with you." He said.
I gave him a weird look. "I'll be fine. Stay here."
Not giving him a chance to argue, I started walking away.
Once I had peed, I stepped out of the stalls to wash my hands and then turned towards the door, stepping out. A man stood in the small hallway, dressed in a black t-shirt and jeans.
"Hi there." He said with a smirk.
I ignored him, walking ahead, but he blocked my way. "Aysel, I suggest you stop and listen to me."
I looked up at him in surprise. "How do you know me?"
"I know you very well. Liam sent me," he stepped closer. A shiver ran down my spine, my eyes widening. "If you know what's best for you, get away from Aiden and move back into your apartment. Or he'll die a slow, torturous death all because of you."
"Get away." I tried appearing strong and fearless.
"This is your last warning, doctor. Cut all contact from Aiden Knight, or the consequences will be really bad for both of you." He threatened.
I pushed at his chest, glaring at him before quickly walking away with a rapidly beating heart, and sweat dripping off my forehead. I felt increasingly lightheaded as I walked back to Aiden, some relief washing over me as I saw him.
"Why are you sweating?" He frowned as I stood before him.
"Let's go home." I murmured.
He stood up, putting his arm around my waist and pulling me close as if he could sense that I was on the verge of passing out.
My vision started getting blurry.
"What's wrong, Aysel? You look pale." His concerned eyes pierced through my soul.
"Please. I want to go home." I implored, struggling to stay conscious.
"Okay, okay." He said, leading me to the elevator as I clutched on to his body.
Panic struck me hard as we drove back to his place, with fear of what might happen next.
