Chapter 2
She had thought she loved him.
This…had to be because he hated her brother. It was the only thing that made sense—he didn’t like Gene, so he had done this to her.
If he said anything else to her it would destroy her.
Greer Hiller called herself the stupidest idiot on the planet for what she had done tonight.
She had thought she loved him. No man had ever made her feel as accepted and appreciated as Kurtland Chase had.
Even though she had known he and her brother Gene had fought each other for years, because of that stupid Carly Fueller, her ex-sister-in-law.
Greer had just…thought everything would be okay once the two men got to know each other.
That if they both cared about her enough…
She’d been so na?ve, thinking she could fix everything.
But Kurtland Chase didn’t care about her one bit.
She could see that now.
Greer had betrayed her big brother with…this beast. And given Kurt her virginity in the process. Willingly. Eagerly. She had been such an idiot.
He had to have been laughing at how easy she had been the entire time.
Just like Carly Fueller. Carly had laughed at Greer a lot when Carly had been married to Gene.
She’d had such a problem with Greer back then, Greer had never understood why.
Kurt had probably slept with Carly, too. Maybe even while Carly had still been married to Gene. It wouldn’t surprise her at all now. Kurt Chase was nothing but man scum through and through.
Her first time. What was supposed to be a beautiful moment, a lifelong memory…and he had ruined it. She’d definitely never forget it, that was for sure.
She had thought she loved him.
He was just using her for sex.
One of the oldest stories in the book. She had been an idiot. Never had she been so sick to her stomach at anything she had ever done in the past.
She hurried into her clothes. All she wanted to do was get away from him. To forget him and put him behind her forever.
What kind of bastard tricked a woman into sleeping with him just to get even with her older brother? There were names for men like that. Foul ones.
But she deserved it. She should have listened to her brothers when they’d told her before that Kurtland Chase was a bastard. And to stay far, far away.
She should have listened to her brothers for once in her life. Should have just thanked that toad for helping her when her car broke down and then…stayed away forever.
She wasn’t ever going to be this stupid with a man ever again.
Greer grabbed her bag.
She still had to ride in his truck with Kurt tonight. There wasn’t exactly a taxi service out there right now.
For a moment, she considered calling one of her five brothers to come get her. To just scoop her close and make everything…better. But that was the coward’s way out.
She knew what Gene and most of the rest of her big brothers would do.
They’d beat the tar out of him and then get themselves into so much trouble Giavonna and George, attorneys, wouldn’t be able to get them out of it.
She could call Gunn, but her brother was a minister.
The last thing she wanted was him seeing her like this, knowing what Kurt had done.
She was just…going to put Kurtland Chase behind her forever. And…be a lot smarter next time.
Lesson learned.
Kurt had broken her. And she felt it down to her very soul. She was never going to be this stupid again.
