Chapter 9 #2
‘Yes, definitely yes,’ Alex said, without any hesitation. She didn’t know what this meant, whether it was a one-off or if there would be more. She didn’t care. She needed him so much right now.
He kissed her again, undressing her so she was completely naked. But there were no nerves about being naked with a man for the first time in years, this was Quinn, she trusted him completely. His eyes roamed over her body which made her smile.
‘Christ you’re so beautiful.’
He bent his head and kissed her again. This kiss, she was never ever going to get enough of it.
He pulled back to look at her again. ‘Now in the spirit of picking up where we left off, where did we leave it yesterday before we were interrupted?’
‘Well we’d kissed, socks were blown off,’ Alex said, stripping him out of his t-shirt, before starting work on his jeans. He helped her by pushing them down and wiggling out of them. ‘I don’t think there was anything else of note.’
He arched an eyebrow. ‘So I didn’t give you, what was the words you used, the best orgasm you’ve ever had?’
‘That feels like something I would definitely remember, so maybe start there.’
‘OK, I can see I need to try harder.’
He scooted down to her legs and kissed on the inside of her knee, then started trailing his hot mouth up her leg.
Her breath hitched as he got closer to where she needed him, then he kissed her right there.
She arched up off the floor, that feeling slamming into her so hard and so fast, her body instantly responding to him as if they’d been made just for each other.
That feeling spread so quickly like fire on paper, burning everything it touched, and within moments she was shouting out his name, clinging onto his shoulders, her orgasm leaving her completely breathless.
He pushed down his shorts and climbed back up her, catching her gasps on his lips, and she wrapped her arms around him as her body trembled against him.
He pulled back slightly, adoration for her shining from his eyes.
She stroked his face. And for a second those fears of falling even further in love and having a relationship with this wonderful man started creeping in.
They both knew that this, whatever it was, was something significant.
It wasn’t possible to keep her heart separated from this.
‘Are you OK? We don’t have to go any further than this if you’re not comfortable with it?’ Quinn said.
‘No, I want this, I’ve dreamed about this for years. I’m just scared of getting hurt.’
He kissed the frown that had formed between her eyes. ‘Don’t think about this too much. It’s just two friends making love, it doesn’t have to mean anything.’
She stared at him in surprise. ‘You’re my best friend, of course this means something.’
He kissed her. ‘It only means something if you want it to. It can be completely no strings attached.’
Her heart leapt. ‘You really want one night of sex and then we’ll just go back to being friends again?’
‘I never said anything about one night. We can have no-strings-attached sex as often as you want.’
‘But… you said you didn’t want anything casual with me.’
‘I want you in any way you want to be with me. I want to hold your hand while we watch Midsomer Murders. I want to be with you every day because I missed you so damned much today. Of course I want forever with you but I can wait as long as you need to be ready for that. And if you want no-strings-attached sex in the meantime, I’m more than happy to oblige. ’
She had no words. This was so much to get her head round.
She’d woken up yesterday morning and everything was normal, now she’d kissed Quinn, found out he had feelings for her and was offering her as much no-strings-attached sex as she wanted.
Her brain was telling her this was a terrible idea, she could never have meaningless sex with Quinn, it would always mean something and someone was going to get hurt.
But her heart was telling her to take the risk with the relationship he was offering her, not just sex, it was everything she’d wanted for years.
‘We don’t have to do this. You can walk away if that’s what you want,’ Quinn said gently.
‘After two earth-shattering orgasms, I can’t walk away. I already want more, I want to do this every night with you.’
‘And we can, just without any strings.’
She chewed her lip, knowing that wasn’t true.
‘Look, I’m sorry about the orgasms,’ Quinn said, a smirk on his lips saying he wasn’t. ‘I’ll try and make the sex as rubbish as possible, no more orgasms.’
Alex nodded. ‘That would be great, rubbish sex would be really helpful.’
‘I’ll try my best.’
She wrapped her legs around him. ‘Do your worst.’
He smiled and moved carefully inside her and nothing had felt so perfectly right as this before, it was like they were two halves of a whole finally reconnecting.
He stared at her in wonder, the smile gone from his face.
Something shifted between them and her heart felt suddenly so full of him that she thought it would burst from her chest. He started moving slowly against her, his eyes never leaving hers for a moment, and it was too much all at once.
Her heart wanted to scream out how much she loved him and tell him how she wanted this forever but she couldn’t do it.
But she couldn’t look away either, this was too important for that.
‘Alex,’ Quinn breathed, his voice choked.
She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. This was everything she wanted and needed it to be and everything she’d been wanting to avoid.
He kissed her hard as he started moving against her faster.
His hand snaked up to her breast and the feel of his touch made her breath catch in her throat.
She ran her hand over his bare, muscly shoulders, stroking down his back and back up to touch his hair, and he groaned against her lips.
That feeling in her stomach that had started to fade was already building again, tingles turning into fireworks that were exploding through her body.
She clung to him and he pulled back to look at her with such love in his eyes and she knew she would never love another man as much as she loved him.
It was that realisation that sent her soaring, shouting out his name and trembling in his arms.
Alex was lying on Quinn’s sofa as he lay half on top of her, kissing her like his life depended on it.
There was a part of her that knew she needed to get up and run away from this because with every kiss, every touch she was falling for him even more.
But the part of her that was in complete heaven lying here in his arms far outweighed the other part.
Sex had never been like that with Liam. She felt a little guilty comparing the two because sex with Liam had always been lovely but with Quinn it had been so much more. She didn’t know why but it had been without doubt the best sex she’d ever had.
He pulled back to look at her and she stroked his face. ‘I need to go soon, I don’t want Zara to get back home and find I’m not there.’
He nodded. ‘I’ll drive you back.’
‘There’s no need, it’s only a two-minute walk up the hill.’
‘There is no way I’m letting you go home alone.’
He got up and started getting dressed and she had the pleasure of watching his gloriously naked body.
‘How was the sex?’ Quinn asked, arching an eyebrow at her as if he knew it was the blow-your-socks-off kind.
‘Rubbish.’ She got up and slipped her arms round his neck and he wrapped his arms round her waist.
‘Is that so?’
‘Yeah, which is a good thing, I couldn’t possibly fall in love with someone who makes love like a floundering fish.’
He smirked. ‘A fish?’
‘Yeah, when it’s ended up on dry land and it’s flapping around, it was like that.’
‘That does sound bad.’
‘Yes it was, but after I’ve Christmasified your house tomorrow and all the elves have gone, you can have another go at improving your technique if you like. Practice makes perfect after all.’
‘I think that sounds like a very good idea. I’m probably going to need lots of practice if I’m that bad.’
She nodded. ‘I’m quite happy to help you, that’s what friends do.’
‘You’re very kind.’
‘I know, it’s very selfless of me. Just so you know, I won’t be enjoying it.’
She was already feeling excited about what the night would hold.
‘I appreciate your sacrifice.’ He kissed her again and she felt herself melt against him.
She pulled back to look at him and couldn’t help smiling happily at him.
‘Are we OK?’ Quinn asked, stroking her face.
‘Of course.’ She tried to push down her fears, she was too happy right now to want to face them.
‘Do you want to talk to me about what you’re feeling?’
She sighed. She didn’t want to talk about this at all.
She wanted to continue pretending it was rubbish or at least that it was something casual.
She didn’t want to think about her fears for the future or that if they continued down this path she would have to tell him the truth about the night Liam died.
She wanted to bury her head in the sand and forget all of that.
She looked down so she wouldn’t have to look him in the eye. ‘I think we both know that was a lot more significant than we were expecting,’ she said, quietly.
He tilted her head back up to face him. ‘Yeah, for me too. I knew it would be amazing, because it’s you, but… I wasn’t expecting that.’
She decided to try and claw back some control. ‘You weren’t expecting floundering fish sex?’
He smiled. ‘Exactly. Look, I know you’re scared by it, but it doesn’t have to change anything. This is something casual, friends with benefits, nothing more.’
She looked at him. The way they had made love, the way he had kissed her and held her after like she was something precious and adored, nothing about this was casual, but at least labelling it as such felt like it gave her some protection.
‘You sure?’
