Chapter 19

CHAPTER 19

B lake and Baylan walked the grounds and found themselves at the back of the holiday cottages.

“We’ll need to figure out what to do with these cottages,” Blake said, peering at them.

“We’ll figure something out. There might be some paranormal’s that arrive here that would prefer their own space. Especially the more secretive ones.”

“Yeah, that’s true. We could do them up so they’re ready for whenever.”

“We can,” Baylan agreed.

As they talked, they walked further through the woods. They saw a dragon guard, who stepped forward.

Blake and Baylan smiled at him.

“Forgive me, Your Majesty, Consort. King Bob told us all what happened, my sympathies.”

“Thank you,” Blake replied.

“I don’t know if you know, but there are the remains of a chapel just through the trees there.” The guard pointed. “It’s a lovely spot.”

“There is?” Blake asked, in surprise. “Thank you, we’ll go and look.”

The guard nodded. “Just keep walking that way and you can’t miss it.”

“Thank you,” Blake said.

And with that, the guard vanished back into the woods.

“You didn’t know about the chapel?”

Blake shook his head. “I’ve not had time to look over the whole grounds yet. I moved here for peace and quiet. I thought I’d settle here on my own for a while and then eventually my friends would come and join me and we’d start our pack. Ash and Nick arrived the day I moved in, Jason and Nancy quickly followed, as did Puff. Then Nick found the super soldiers and the rest is history. So nope, not much time to look round.”

Baylan lifted their joint hands and kissed the back of Blake’s hand. “We can always take a day to wander round in our shifted forms and have a look around.”

“That sounds nice,” Blake said as they walked through the woods.

It didn’t take them long to get to the chapel ruins. There was also a small graveyard off to one side. The area overlooked one of the lakes on the property, and as the dragon guard said, it was lovely, but overgrown, with ivy trying to cover the headstones and ruins.

“The guard was right, this place is lovely,” Blake said looking round. “If a little overgrown.”

“I can help with that. Tell me what you want it to look like.”

“Just a clean up really: the ivy gone, the grass and shrubs tidied, the headstones clean and clear.”

Baylan waved his hand and the grounds changed.

“Thank you, babe, now this is perfect,” he said, leaning into Baylan’s side. “The guys will love this as well.” Blake turned his head, catching Baylan’s eye and smirked. “I know now isn’t really the right time to say this, but, man, the Grim Reaper was hot.”

Baylan burst out laughing. “He really is. I remember the first time I saw him, I was shocked when I found out what he did. For some reason, I always thought the Grim Reaper was just a skeleton.”

“He must be a busy chap.”

“Not as much as he used to be. He’s more like the Overlord Reaper now. He has millions of deaths who lead souls off to the afterlife. Han oversees everything and only ever makes reaper calls for special cases.”

“I’m glad he thought Phil was a special case,” Blake replied.

“I’m pretty sure Han loved it. It’s not often someone wants the Reaper to come for them.”

“Let him know he’s always welcome here.”

Baylan kissed the side of his head. “Thanks. I’ll let Hades know and he can pass the message along.”

“I’ve sent a message to the others, so they can come here and look at this space .” Blake looked around. “There’s enough space here for us, and anyone else who wants to attend.”

“Do you need to contact Clara’s and Phil’s family?”

“No, neither Clara nor Phil had any family except us. They had friends at the Hayes pack, but I’ll not be inviting them. I don’t trust anyone from there and I don’t want Barnabus finding a loophole and gaining entrance to our pack lands.”

“Fair enough. Just having you all there will be enough for them.”

“It will be.”
