Chapter Seven
After that, Vasren's dragon began to make daily appearances. I learned to recognize the signs—harsh breathing, lowered voice, and, of course, the glowing eyes. And I looked forward to his visits.
With Vas the man, there was always his anger between us.
My betrayal. He would soften and then seem to remember that he shouldn't.
But the dragon had no such reservations.
It wanted me to lavish attention on it. It loved to cradle me on its lap and play with me.
It was especially fascinated with my cock, so much smaller than his.
It always led to sex, but afterward, he wanted to be stroked and spoken to softly.
Vas, the dragon, craved affection like a puppy.
I lay back against the jade headboard after one of our more tender sessions, and Vas the dragon laid his head on my chest, his long body stretched beside mine.
He nuzzled my belly while absently playing with my spent cock.
I wasn't surprised when his head slid down, and his tongue flicked out to taste me.
He kept tonguing and nuzzling me as he settled on my belly.
I ran my hand through his hair, spreading it over his shoulders.
And then he tensed.
My hand stilled. “Vas?”
He shoved himself up and turned to glare at me. “You've been taking advantage of my dragon.”
“Excuse me?”
“You've discovered that he cares not about who you are as long as you are his.” Vas got out of bed and faced me. “He's a base creature. He only wants his mate. And you are using that to get to me.”
“Oh, for fuck's sake,” I muttered. “You are one and the same!”
“Yes and no. He is me, but he's the primal version of me. Stop using that me!”
“I'm not using you. Do I like that your dragon doesn't rant at me and call me names? Yes, I do. Do I like how he makes me feel special? Of course! Is that using him? No, Vas, it's not. Because he is a part of you, and I love you, so I love him.”
“Stop saying that to me!”
“It's true!” I shouted back. “You told me to show you how I feel, and that's what I've been doing. I've done everything you asked of me. I've been loving to you and have lavished you with attention. But you still don't believe me. What more do you want?”
“I want to get the fuck away from you.” He pulled on his pants.
I blinked. “Is it over? Does this mean the bond has settled?”
Vas left the bedroom.
“Vas!” I jumped out of bed and followed him through the central room, into the entry, and then into his dressing room. I found him sitting on a bench, pulling on his boots. “Are we fully mated now?”
“Yes.” He stood up and walked past me. “The urge has been sated. The bond is complete.”
“Can I, uh, can I go out too?”
Vas spun and narrowed his eyes at me. “Why? So you can try to run away? Do you understand what that would do to me, Mate? Maybe that's what you want? Is it? Do you want me to die?” He bared his teeth. “Would it make you happy to know that I died for you?”
I would have slapped him if I had had the energy, but I was so damn tired of his venom. So, I just turned around and left the dressing room.
“Answer me!” He grabbed my wrist and yanked me to a stop in the entry.
“No, Vas, it wouldn't make me happy if you died.” I rolled my eyes. “I love you. You'd know that if you used our bond and felt what I'm feeling. But you don't want to, do you?”
Vasren grimaced, confirming my suspicions. It didn't alleviate the rejection, though. Because I knew he had seen me once. When he first mated me, he had gone deep. I felt him inside me. Then he had turned away from what he found and never gone back.
“Just go,” I said, my head so heavy that it drooped forward. “I'll be here when you're ready to fuck again.”
Vasren's eyes widened, but then he shoved me away and stormed out of the suite.
