Chapter 4 Farmhouse Team Challenge
I ended up being packed into the Variety Show anyway.
What a coincidence, that Su Xiner who had rumors with Song Nanzhou was there too. I could only say the directors knew how to pick guests.
"Teacher Cheng, we meet again."
Song Nanzhou took the initiative to greet me.
All eyes focused on me in an instant.
I felt like needles were pricking my back as I greeted Song Nanzhou. "Senior Song, what a coincidence."
Song Nanzhou's deep eyes took on a hint of a mocking smile. I immediately had a bad feeling.
That's when the director spoke up.
"This Variety Show uses a Live Stream format.
Now draw lots to decide teams. Whoever you draw is your partner.
You have a hundred bucks as starting funds.
Use that to complete tasks, including three meals a day and lodging.
All within that hundred. After one day, the team with the most money left gets priority to choose a new partner. "
The director went by proximity. Song Nanzhou drew first, then singer Jiang Yan, Su Xiner, me, and finally the half-unknown siblings Wen Li and Wen Rou in the entertainment circle.
After drawing, I looked at the color on my lot, then glanced at Su Xiner's.
Just my luck—I was paired with Su Xiner.
"Oh, Teacher Cheng, we're together?" Su Xiner asked, pretending to be surprised.
I nodded with a smile. "Senior, please guide me."
Song Nanzhou stared straight at me from the side. I saw his lot matched Jiang Yan's.
The director wiped sweat from his forehead discreetly. "So the teams are set."
"Now, choose your lodging. Options are villa, farmhouse, or guesthouse."
Su Xiner wanted to raise her hand and dash to the villa. I grabbed her back right away.
"What are you doing?" Su Xiner snapped in temper.
I crossed my arms, annoyed. "A night in the villa costs 65 bucks. It's noon, we haven't eaten. Where do you plan to drink the northwest wind later?"
If we stayed in the villa, Su Xiner and I would definitely go hungry.
I stared at the words "farmhouse" and pondered. It was a farm, so there must be veggies. We could save money.
I made a quick decision and dragged Su Xiner to pick the farmhouse sign.
"What are you doing? At least let this miss stay in a guesthouse."
I whispered to Su Xiner as I walked. "Trust me, it's the right choice."
Su Xiner's delicate frame got forcefully dragged by me to choose the farmhouse.
Since Wen Li and Wen Rou picked the guesthouse first, that left only the villa for Song Nanzhou and Jiang Yan.
When Su Xiner and I arrived at the farmhouse, I looked at the vegetable patch and nodded in satisfaction.
But Su Xiner stamped her feet in disdain. "Cheng Zhi, you're not getting back at me, are you? I didn't steal Song Nanzhou. That was all from my agency."
I squatted down, pulled a few green onions from the ground, then dug up some greens.
"Take the hundred, pay for lodging, then buy two bucks' worth of noodles. If it's not enough, buy more."
Su Xiner eyed me from head to toe, full of doubt. "Can you even make edible noodles?"
I was half a head taller than Su Xiner. With my height advantage and captain's authority, I said slowly. "If you don't get moving on the task I assigned, you'll sleep in the vegetable patch tonight."
"There are caterpillars in the patch, grasshoppers..."
Before I finished, Su Xiner ran off to do it. She really feared sleeping in the patch.
When Su Xiner came back with the stuff, I had already boiled water and blanched the greens. I took the noodles from her and ordered. "Go to the chicken coop by the door and get two eggs."
"Um, Song Nanzhou and Jiang Yan said they have no money and want to mooch food." Su Xiner looked at me cautiously, hesitant.
I refused flatly. "Just two bundles of noodles. Not enough."
Then Su Xiner slowly pulled out two more bundles from behind.
I laughed in anger. "You little traitor."
Then I thought of a bad idea. "Then tell Song Nanzhou to get four eggs, or no food."
Su Xiner immediately ran out to relay the message to Song Nanzhou and them.
Soon, the three came in with eggs. I boiled noodles in one pot, fried eggs in another, and made four bowls of egg noodles.
Su Xiner took the first bite, then gave a thumbs up in praise. "Good."
Jiang Yan couldn't help but eat too, then praised sincerely. "Indeed nice."
Song Nanzhou had a dark face, staring at me tightly while he ate the noodles.
