Chapter Eighteen #2
“You have one of the rarer gifts. Which we should have expected from the beginning really.” I answer her grinning.
“Yes, ok, great. But what is it?”
“Shielding. You’re actually kicking off enough power that you could have put up the protection shield around the school all by yourself and that took four of the strongest shielding supernatural’s in the realms to do.
” Cole explains looking impressed. “You can drop the shield now though, I promise I won’t throw anything else at you.
” He says frowning as worry fills his eyes.
“I know that stupid,” Erin says in her blunt way and clears the worry from his eyes immediately, “what if I release it and then I can’t get it back?” She asks frowning.
“Oh!” Cole exclaims, as he fills with understanding.
I let him take this one as I know nothing on the subject and he has been in this world and the academy a lot longer than I have.
“That won’t happen. Now that your gift has been triggered you’ll be able to create a shield whenever you want to.
The rarer gifts are tricky like that. Some supernaturals have been known to go for years and years not realising they have another gift because they haven’t been in the right circumstances to trigger it.
” He explains and it absolutely fascinates me, there’s so much about this world that we don’t know.
“Trust me?” He implores her and even from here I can see the venerability that accompanies that seemingly simple question.
Erin takes a deep breath and drops her shield. Cole’s blue eyes light up with joy as he grins wide enough to bring the dimples out in his cheeks.
“Now try to bring your shield forward again.” He instructs.
Erin looks at him nervously and he nods smiling encouragingly. She takes another deep breath and then brings her shield back out and once again it surrounds her.
“Yes!!” She exclaims excitedly before we can warn her to calm down.
“Thank god your gift is less destructive than mine!” I chuckle as her shield spreads out to cover both me and Cole.
“Holy fuck! You are really strong!” He says again.
“Whoops. My bad!” Erin chuckles and pulls her shield back the magic seeming to absorb back into her.
“That’s going to come in handy.” I say, “Are there any limitations to what it can protect from and how long she can hold it?” I ask Cole.
“I’m not entirely sure. No one here has the shielding gift, like I said it’s rare.” He shrugs.
“Do you want a break?” Erin asks.
“Sure, coffee?” I offer walking towards the door.
“Fuck yes!” Cole exclaims behind us making us laugh.
“Another coffee addict. Thank god, you fit right in!” I chuckle.
I make us coffees and we settle down on the couch.
“I wonder what your third gift is?” I mutter and they both turn to look at me, confused frowns on their faces.
“Dude, we went through all of the gifts we could think of and none of them triggered. What makes you think I’ve got a third one?” Erin asks, Cole nodding in agreement.
“Intuition.” I say simply.
“In that case, I’d assume that it’s another rare gift.” Cole says instantly trusting my word and solidifying that it was a good idea to bring him into the fold and trust him.
“Have you got any suggestions on how we can try to bring it out?” I ask.
“None that I’m willing to try. If I was wrong about your shielding the worst you would’ve gotten is knocked out and a headache.
” He says, “Put it this way one of the rare gifts is regeneration and I’m not sure that any of us are willing to try that one out.
Many of the other rare gifts have just as drastic ways to bring them out or very specific circumstances in which they’ll appear.
Hence why some supernaturals can go for years without realising they have another gift. ”
“Yeah, no, I am definitely not willing to cut something off on the off chance that it may grow back.” Erin shudders. “I’ll just wait and see. I have every faith that the goddess will show me what my extra gift is when it’s time.”
“Sounds like a good plan to me.” I say. “Why are you frowning?” I ask Cole.
“Somethings just occurred to me, what if the same person that used the void to transport that serpent and that Nicole warned you about is the same person that abducted Rebecca and her Bonded?”
“Fuck why didn’t I think of that!” I say, it seems pretty obvious now to assume that they are the same.
“Want to go check out her room?” Erin grins, “I mean it is only across the hall.”
“True and we all know that the Director was obviously holding back, I don’t think that woman could ever tell the truth.” Cole adds rolling his eyes.
They both turn to look at me like I’m the one they need to convince to go along with the idea.
“Guys, you realise that I was in the second Erin suggested it?” I chuckle.
“Should’ve known.” Cole chuckles and I grin.
We all get up and start towards the door but Cole pauses.
“Text your Bonded and tell them what we are doing. I am not being held responsible if something happens to one of you.” He says his eyes comically wide.
“Good point, you do it. I can’t remember where I put my phone!” I explain and Erin rolls her eyes pulling out hers and sending a quick text.
“Done!” She grins as we make our way out the door.
“Aren’t you going to wait for them?” Cole asks curiously.
“We won’t need to.” I say chuckling.
Sure enough as soon as we’re in the hallway the door next to ours opens and out strolls Levi and Nate. Levi immediately comes over to me and kisses me.
“I missed you, Darling.” He mutters.
“I missed you too!” I reply sighing softly. “How come the other guys didn’t come too?”
“We thought it would definitely be suspicious and harder to hide if all of us came since there are so many of us. Plus Mav and Dash are still down at the library and the others are having far too much fun playing with their gifts.” Nate explains rolling his eyes and making me chuckle.
“That sounds about right.” Erin says grinning.
“Come on let’s get this done before someone spots us and we get accused of having something to do with their disappearance.” Cole says smiling at the picture that Nate just painted for us and we quickly walk across the hall.
I make quick work of the lock, easily picking it, glad that although he looks curious Cole doesn’t ask any questions.
I am not ready to get into my fucked up past right now.
There’s been enough revelations for one day.
Of course the ease at which I picked the lock then has me worrying about the security of our own rooms.
“I’ll get some extra locks for the rooms.” Levi says reading the worry on my features.
“Good idea, I’ll do the same to ours.” Nate agrees.
We all enter the room quickly and shut the door quietly behind us.
The room is in absolutely disarray. There is devastation everywhere nothing left untouched in the fight that went on here.
It’s more than obvious that the fight took place in the main living area.
With the majority of damage being in here and claw marks in the furniture, scorch marks on the walls and cracks and dents everywhere.
Not to mention the over turned furniture and just general mess everywhere.
