Chapter Nineteen #2

It’s halfway through lunch, the morning has been incredibly uneventful. Although Nicole wasn’t in our Centre lesson again and the same guy as before kept looking at us like he wanted to ask something but kept changing his mind.

We are still getting stared at but now the looks are openly hostile and accusing.

For some reason everyone thinks that we had something to do with Rebecca and her Bonded disappearing.

It’s a classic case of we are something that is different and they don’t understand, so we must be the bad guys despite the fact that the assumption is illogical.

We did get into a confrontation with them right before they disappeared though so I can sort of see where the students are coming from even though it was clear I could’ve ended it then and there and chose not to.

I’m brought out of my thoughts as the doors to the dining hall slam open, unnecessarily hard and makes the dining hall fall silent as everyone’s attention falls on the Director. She looks immensely satisfied that all eyes are on her as she makes her way over to our table.

It’s clear she’s done this on purpose.

“There’s something wrong with that woman. I’ll go and see what I can find out, be careful though!” Cole says.

I nod in agreement but wonder how he’s going to get out of here without someone noticing and raising suspicions even though everyone’s attention is on the director and for once not us.

He waits until the Director glances at another student and then Cole takes his fork and then ducks under the table disappearing completely as he opens the void.

“I’m envious that he can do that.” Jett mutters.

“Me too.” I admit.

The Director is making the most of her short journey to our tables and make no mistake that is definitely where she is headed.

“Hello, children,” she says as she approaches, putting emphasis on the word children, “If you would all please come with me we need to question you in regards to the disappearance of Rebecca and her Bonded.” She says unnecessarily loud and instantly sets the surrounding students muttering.

As the atmosphere towards us grows even more hostile.

“She expects us to make to scene,” I send down the bond link to all of them, hoping the that Erin and her guys hear me too, she nods slightly. “Stay calm and silent and just get up and follow her out.” I add and we do just that.

Disappointment flashes across the Directors features.

“Wait!” The instructor from Centre class calls out, stopping us just before we can get out of the door. “I’d like to come and offer my truth skills in order to determine if they are in fact guilty.” He says his voice full of determination.

“I hardly think that, that is necessary.” The Director blusters.

“Why not? My gift is one hundred percent accurate. It’s the only way to know for certain and I’m sure that you don’t want to accuse someone innocent of such a heinous crime that could get them thrown into one of our supernatural prisons?” He says raising an eyebrow.

The Director looks over his shoulder at the students still listening to what is being said and her eyes flash dangerously as she clenches her jaw before wiping her expression completely.

Instead of replying which would no doubt give away any sort of lie she merely nods once and then spins on her heel, as she practically stomps away.

We keep our silence as we walk through the doors and out into the hallway, the dining hall immediately irrupting into loud talking. I am incredibly curious about what the mysterious instructor wants from us, what his game is.

“My name is Theo. I’ll make sure you don’t get sent down for a crime that you did not commit.

You should have another instructor present in these situations anyway.

I have no doubt that Nicole would have made sure that she was present but she is still otherwise engaged.

Her bonded are getting your horses ready for your lesson.

I will send word that you will be a bit late.

” He says speaking somewhat old fashioned as he pulls out a cell and sends a text.

“Forgive us if we remain on guard.” Levi says politely.

Hunter

I eye Theo with suspicion.

He’s saying all the right things and his scent hasn’t wavered which would suggest he’s telling the truth and has good intentions.

However he is fae and a lie detector with quite a lot of years behind him which makes me think that he has probably picked up some handy trick’s to cover up lies as well.

As always, my gaze drifts back to Sage and I pull her into my side.

My protective instincts have always ridden me hard when it comes to Sage but ever since me and my wolf became one the instinct has gotten more severe.

The only thing that is reassuring me at the moment is that I know Sage is more than capable of taking care of herself and that was before her gifts were released.

I have no doubt that once she has trained and gained some experience she is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

The Director leads us into her office and takes a seat behind her wide desk.

Now her scent on the other hand, wavers continuously and I can’t pin down exactly what kind of supernatural she is which is worrying and something that I need to remember to bring up to the others.

We all spread out in front of her desk none of us willing to sit down and make an escape take precious seconds longer.

Seeing that we aren’t going to sit the Director quickly stands again and brushes off her skirt.

“Right, well I’ll get straight to the point.” She says her tone cold as she gives Theo a displeased look. Clearly she had another plan entirely for this meeting. “We have had quite a few reports about an altercation between you and Rebecca in the dining hall, is this true?”

“Yes.” Sage say’s simply.

The Director didn’t ask her to explain further and I don’t think she’d let Sage if she tried to now anyway.

“This is unacceptable. I’m afraid I have no choice but to . . .” She starts and is quickly interrupted by Theo.

“Now hang on a minute Director.” He says seemingly shocked that she was about to jump straight to punishment without even hearing our side of anything.

Although I can’t say I’m surprised at all, I try to hold in my growl which really should seem weird to me but I feel like my whole life I’ve only been half a person and now I’m finally not.

Theo turns to us, “what happened?”

“Rebecca threw an energy ball at me in the dining room. I told her in no uncertain terms that I didn’t understand why she didn’t like me but I would not be playing her games.

We then finished our food and left.” Sage explains and I try to keep my expression neutral, I can feel shock coming through the Bond from the others too and not just my brothers, it seems that Sage still has us linked into what I’m dubbing the warrior bond.

She told the complete truth, she just left some things out. I don’t really know how Theo’s gift works but he said he detected lies and she didn’t lie.

“She’s telling the truth.” He says with absolute certainty, “If it wasn’t for the fact they are missing I’d seriously be considering action against Rebecca and the others, they could’ve seriously hurt her.”

“That’s not what copious witnesses have said happened.” The Director defends starting to sound slightly unhinged.

“Well I don’t know what to tell you Annie. She’s not lying.” He says again, steel lacing his tone.

I think I like this guy.

“Now come on kids this has taken up enough of your evening.” He says to us as he urges us to stand.

“One last question, did you have any involvement in the disappearance of Rebecca and her team?” The Director asks.

“No.” Sage says her voice colder than I’ve ever heard.

“She’s not lying.” Theo says flatly before rushing us out.

I am so proud of Sage and I can’t wait to finally tell her that I love her.

We all agreed to wait to tell her exactly how strong our feelings are for her so that we don’t freak her out. She’s not used to people caring about her and odd things can set her off. All of that just makes her Ours though and I’m willing to wait for as long as it takes.

I’m not going anywhere.

None of us are.
