Unspoken Echoes

Author's pov-

Divya sat at the library for a while after purv left, stirring her now-cold coffee. The conversation they had replayed in her mind, every word lingering like an unfinished thought.

She hadn't expected him to be so... Honest.

His words about charvi echoed in her head. She isn't my girlfriend. I just tolerate her because of our fathers.

He didn't owe her an explanation, yet he had given one. And for some reason, that made something shift inside her.

Sighing, she grabbed her bag and left.

The next day at college, things felt strangely normal-like nothing had changed, yet everything had.

Divya was heading towards her class when she heard someone call her name.

"Divya!"

She turned to see kaashi jogging towards her, a bright smile on her face.

"What happened yesterday?" Kaashi asked, falling into step beside her. "You left the class, and then what? I tried texting you."

Divya shrugged. "Nothing much. Just went in library."

Kaashi narrowed her eyes. "Alone?"

Divya hesitated for half a second, and that was all kaashi needed.

"You weren't alone," she accused, eyes twinkling. "You were with him, weren't you?"

Divya sighed. "Kaashi-"

Kaashi gasped dramatically. "Oh my god, you were! Spill. Now."

Divya rolled her eyes but couldn't help the small smile on her lips. "We just talked."

Kaashi raised an eyebrow. "About?"

Divya hesitated, thinking about the rain, the way purv had listened, the way he had clarified things about charvi.

"Stuff," she finally said.

Kaashi groaned. "You're impossible."

Before Divya could reply, her eyes flickered to the other end of the corridor-where purv stood.

He was leaning casually against the wall, hands in his pockets, looking at her. Not at the people around her. Just her.

Her breath hitched slightly.

Kaashi followed her gaze and smirked. "Well, well. Someone's looking for you."

Divya shook her head. "Don't start."

Kaashi winked. "Too late."

With that, she walked off, leaving divya standing there.

Purv pushed off the wall and strolled towards her. "Morning."

Divya raised an eyebrow. "You don't seem like the kind of guy who does small talk."

He smirked. "I don't. But I figured you'd be thinking about yesterday."

Divya crossed her arms. "And why would I be?"

Purv tilted his head slightly. "Because you overthink."

Her lips parted slightly in surprise. "I-"

He stepped a little closer. "Am I wrong?"

Divya huffed. "Whatever. Why are you even here?"

Purv chuckled. "I was bored."

She gave him a look. "You? bored? Don't you have any better things to do, like glare at people or make them nervous?"

He smirked. "Already did that this morning."

Divya rolled her eyes but couldn't stop the small laugh that escaped.

Purv leaned against the pillar beside her, watching her carefully. "So, what's on your mind?"

Divya hesitated before answering. "Nothing."

Purv let out a low hum. "Liar."

She shot him a glare. "You're really annoying, you know that?"

He smirked. "You'll get used to it."

Divya shook her head, hiding her smile.

Maybe she would.
