Chapter 46

M attias could only avoid the crew for so long. I had something epic planned, and the guys ended up arguing so much about who got to join this particular excursion that more than half of them were going to be there. I fully planned on throwing Wyatt under the bus to draw the attention off Mattias if necessary, though. He didn’t notice it either.

At this point, Xander knew almost everyone in the crew. We were tackling big groups since that discomfort hadn’t yet faded. He hadn’t mentioned yet if he was ready to come out to the crew, but he was a lot more open and happy since coming out to Mattias. I didn't notice the level of tension he carried with him everywhere until he could finally let go of it and just be himself.

Getting an entire weekend off was a task and a half, and I had to pick up a few extra shifts to pull it off, so when I got off work on Friday night, I was wiped out. I trudged inside, dropping onto the couch beside Xander and Thor, and leaned my head against his shoulder.

“Bad shift?” he asked curiously. He wasn’t at the dramatic teen stage yet where he would shrug me off .

“Not bad. Just long. Please tell me there’s something good to eat. I haven’t eaten more than a bag of chips in fifteen hours.”

He hummed, his attention on his phone. “Mattias said something about burritos.”

God, I loved that man. He made coming home less of a chore, knowing there was good food waiting for me. Usually, I’d have a bowl of cereal or have to summon enough energy to either wait for takeout to arrive or make a bowl of mac and cheese. I was too tired to do much else.

“What’d I tell you about stealing my girlfriend?” Mattias grumbled from over our heads.

Xander made a face. “Gross.” He looked at me and wrinkled his nose apologetically. “No offense.”

I snorted, releasing him from pillow duty. “None taken? I guess? Who are you texting, anyway?”

His cheeks flushed, and he ducked his head, but Xander didn’t keep secrets anymore. He said they were too much work.

“I, uh… I made a friend at school. He’s nice.”

“Rule still stands,” Mattias said with a pointed look. “No dating until you’ve been friends for twenty years.”

Xander rolled his eyes. I wasn’t sure how Mattias saw it, since Xander didn’t even look over his shoulder, but he got Xander in a headlock and ruffled his hair roughly. Xander squawked and squirmed, but he was laughing when he finally wriggled free. And because he wasn’t afraid of Mattias anymore, he didn’t even hesitate to leap over the back of the couch and chase after him.

I smiled, leaning my cheek on my arms draped on the back of the couch while I watched them play. They’d come a long way since Xander showed up. They weren’t just obligations to each other. They were family. And because they loved me, I was part of that. Xander dodged around the couch and hid behind my back, using me as a human shield.

Mattias stalked closer, his eyes narrowed. “She won’t protect you.”

I scoffed, pushing to my feet. “Yes, I will. We’re a team. Thor, get him!”

Thor loved joining in on the fun and barked happily, dancing at Mattias’s feet. Mattias gaped at me, pointing at Thor.

“How the hell did you get my dog to team up against me?”

I shrugged. “We’re cuddle buddies. Three against one. I like our odds. ”

“Oh, you’re gonna get it,” he growled, his grin wicked. Xander and I ran together, Xander distracting him so I could dodge around him, and vice versa. Thor wasn’t much of a help, other than getting in the way while he followed us around.

When I imagined me and Mattias together, I saw quiet nights and long walks with Thor. And while we still had those sometimes, I never imagined this. It was so much better than I could’ve ever dreamed of.

“Don’t stay up all night on your phone. We’ve got an adventure to go on tomorrow.”

Xander smirked at me, already comfortable in his bed, with Thor curled up next to him. “I won’t. Good night, Mel.”

“Good night.”

I closed the door behind me and headed back downstairs. Xander was a little old for me to be tucking him in, but I did it with all my niblings and he didn’t get that kind of treatment when he was little. I’d keep doing it now until he asked me to stop. He didn’t seem inclined just yet.

Mattias was checking the locks like he did every night before bed. He never had a problem before, the neighborhood was pretty safe, and most of the house remained locked up unless he had visitors, but he said it made him feel better to double-check. I wasn’t interested in taking that comfort away from him.

“All good?”

He hummed, pulling me into his arms. “Xander?”

“All tucked in. Hopefully, that phone won’t keep him up all night.”

He didn’t look concerned, pressing a kiss against my forehead. “He’s fine. How tired are you?”

Biting back a grin, I raised my eyebrow at him. “Why? Did you have something planned?”

The only answer I got was him dipping to toss me over his shoulder. I squealed and laughed, pushing against his back to get my head up.

“Mattias! Put me down! ”

He gave one of his caveman grunts as a response and marched off to his room. I had no choice but to come with him. Not that I planned on saying no. At this point, it was our room. I think on some level we both knew I wouldn’t be going back to my place.

When he dumped me onto the bed, I wrapped an arm around his neck, taking him down with me. His grin still gave me butterflies, despite having been wrapped around each other for weeks now. It wasn’t every night, my job was exhausting sometimes, and he never pushed if I was too tired to function. Those nights, he pulled me into bed and rubbed my back until I passed out. On nights like tonight, he took the opportunity to wear me out completely before letting me go to sleep. A plan I fully enjoyed and encouraged.

I was pretty sure I was addicted to his kisses. Slow and languid, fast and rough, it didn’t matter. I could spend hours kissing him and still not get enough. I wrapped my arms around his neck, keeping him close as his tongue tangled with mine.

Clothes started disappearing like magic, our lips parting only long enough to pull shirts off before he swooped back down for more. Suddenly he chuckled, which was not something a woman wanted to hear when her clothes came off.

“What’s so funny?” I demanded with a frown.

“Are you wearing my underwear?” he asked, trailing his gaze down my body to said underwear before looking up at me again with a smirk.

I scrunched my nose and bit my lip sheepishly. “Maybe. I forgot to do laundry and couldn’t find a clean pair of mine. I should’ve packed more.”

His smile flickered out and his brows drew together tightly. “Move in with me, Mel. You belong here with us.”

My heart melted. Any arguments I had against making it official were wiped out with two small sentences. Tugging him closer, I kissed him, whispering against his lips. “Okay. I’ll move in.”

I didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy his smile before he swooped down to kiss me again. I chuckled against his lips, helping him shed the rest of my clothes. Okay, technically some of it was his clothes. Laundry was the bane of my existence. If I could afford it, I’d just buy new clothes when mine were dirty. Mattias wasn’t much better. His clothes decorated his floor, covering nearly every inch of it. It was a good thing Xander didn't come in here often. We were a bad influence when it came to cleanliness.

While I was distracted thinking about the perks of a laundry service, Mattias slid down my body, trailing hot kisses down my body before settling between my legs. Before he could blow my mind and distract me, I nudged his shoulder.

“Turn around.”

Looking up, he frowned at me. “What? Why?”

I smirked at him. “I’ve got a challenge for you. The first one to make the other come wins.”

His mouth twitched as he fought back a smile. “What do I win?”

“Cocky,” I teased. “Whoever wins gets to be on top.”

Heat flashed in his eyes as he considered me. He ran his palms up my thighs, making me shiver.

“If I stay where I am, I’ll end up on top anyway,” he pointed out.

True. I couldn’t think straight when he ate me out. But I also wanted to try a sixty-nine. It sounded like a fun challenge.

“Yes, but you’d win by cheating, which isn’t fair. Unless you’re too chicken to try it? You know I’ll win, huh?”

A slow grin passed over his face. “You’re such a brat. Fine. I’m in.”

Biting my lip, I watched him stretch out beside me facing the opposite way. I thought we’d do it that way, with us both laying on our sides, but of course, Mattias had other plans. He gripped my hips and rolled, putting me on all fours above him.

“Do I want to know how you got to be so smooth?” I asked breathlessly.

The only answer he gave me was to pull my hips down so he could tease his tongue over my clit, making me gasp and squirm. No teasing or dragging it out. He was playing to win.

Never one to back down from a challenge, I leaned and drew his dick into my mouth. He groaned in response, twitching between my lips, and doubled down on licking me. It was hard to think about what I was doing when he was so determined to get me off. All thoughts flew out the window, and I forgot all the little moves I learned to get him off quickly. Especially when he shoved his tongue inside me, mimicking what we would be doing soon if I had anything to say about it.

I was getting close and wasn’t at all disappointed about losing, but before I could cross the finish line, Mattias ripped his mouth away, his voice tight.

“Fuck, Mel. You win. Fucking stop or I’ll come before you get to be on top.”

Releasing him with a pop, I rolled onto my side and smirked at him. Technically, I could take the win, just because I knew it wouldn’t happen often, he was too good with his mouth. But that felt unfair since I was just as close as he was.

“I don’t think so. A few more seconds and you would’ve had me.”

He groaned, and his dick twitched right in front of my face. I loved watching him fall apart like this. Gone was the stoic grump, replaced by a sex-hungry monster. He moved like a ninja and dragged me up onto my knees with him pressed against my back. I wasn’t entirely sure what he had in mind, but I was down to try almost anything.
