Chapter 3
CHAPTER THREE
Axel
Emersyn wasn’t anything I expected. Loud to my quiet, crazy to my calm. Yet I wanted her. In every way possible.
I couldn’t explain it. Couldn’t even attempt to.
The craziest part? She made me suddenly want things I never wanted before.
Love, commitment, marriage, kids.
With her, I wanted it all.
So what if she was loud, wild, and carefree. Love didn’t care, and neither did I.
When my lips landed on hers for the first time, it was unlike anything I could’ve imagined.
Our mouths melded together into one and an explosion of passion erupted between us.
We kissed and kissed and kissed, Emersyn shying away at first before letting go and opening herself up to me completely.
My hands found her hair and got tangled up in the strands, as I pulled her head back to expose her neck.
Her white creamy skin beckoned to be explored, tasted, and kissed.
I couldn’t even wait to get her inside, still standing in my driveway after our walk. That’s how badly I wanted her.
With all the willpower I didn’t possess, I broke our kiss and took her hand in mine, sprinting up the driveway, needing her inside so I could be inside her.
Yet after I closed the door behind us and took her in my arms, Emersyn’s eyes widened, and she shook her head. “Axel…I…this…shit, I need to sit down.”
I led her to the living room and sat beside her on the couch. “It’s a lot, I know. Why don’t we just watch a movie and chill?”
“It’s not a lot. Well, it is, sort of. But whoever I was talking to for those two weeks felt a lot like you and I fell in love with that person. Being here with you, it’s almost like you’re the same person, but you’re not, and my brain is scrambled.”
“I think what matters most is the here and now. Let’s move forward with each other and forget the how’s and whys of the beginning. In the end, do they matter?”
“I guess not. But there’s one more thing.”
“Okay, hit me.”
“I’m a virgin.” Emersyn confessed, and it took all my might not to have my chin hit the floor. It didn’t bother me in the slightest, yet I couldn’t understand why. She was gorgeous, a catch, a ten out of ten. Who wouldn’t try to get her in bed?
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pulled her in close. “I think it’s sexy as fuck.” I whispered in her ear and watched the goosebumps scatter across her skin.
“You do?”
“Mm. You’re not touched by anyone else. Mine. All. Mine. ”
Emersyn shivered. “But what if I’m not good or…”
“Shh, don’t worry about it. We’ll take our time and go as slow or as fast as you want.”
“How do you always know how to make me feel better?”
I pulled her even closer and kissed the top of her head. I didn’t answer though the answer was on the tip of my tongue. I knew her already, what she liked and didn’t like, somehow in the span of one day together I felt like I’d known her forever.
And maybe that was what scared me most of all.
She slept in my spare bedroom after we spent the night cuddling on my couch. When it came time to get ready for the wedding the next day, I couldn’t stop myself from sneaking glances at her now and then.
Emersyn’s green eyes popped, like two emerald jewels, and her makeup compliment her eyes and skin tone.
A little black dress hugged her curves in all the right ways, and my fingers itched to rip it off her.
With a light touch of makeup and perfume, Emersyn was stunning.
“Are you sure this looks okay? Not too short or revealing?”
“It looks perfect. Just like you look.” I smiled warmly at her and adjusted my bowtie one last time.
“Thank you. You look handsome, too.”
I leaned in close, breathing in her fragrant scent. “Is it okay to kiss you? A small one?”
Emersyn nodded, and I pressed my lips against hers softly at first, but slowly deepening it, unable to contain the passion flowing between us. Before I got carried away, I ended the kiss on a gentle note. “Ready?”
She laughed. “After a kiss like that? I’m not so sure.”
We held hands on the way to the wedding and when I showed up with Emersyn on my arm, my family had nothing to say. Everyone seemed genuinely happy for me and maybe it was because I was radiating happiness, too.
“Okay, you need to tell me more, Ax. You can’t leave your mom hanging over here.” Mom handed me a beer and glanced toward Emersyn, who was currently being questioned to death by my aunt. I should rescue her soon.
“We matched up on a dating website and I can’t help but like her. She’s smart, funny, outgoing.”
“Hence why I’m surprised, darling. She’s quite the opposite of what you normally go for.”
“Maybe that’s why it works?”
“Maybe. I’m happy for you.”
“Thanks, Ma. But don’t put too much weight into this, okay? I needed a date, I found a date.”
“Oh no, no, no, she’s much more than a date. She’s girlfriend material.”
I held back my tongue, her pushiness a little much. I knew Emersyn was girlfriend material; I knew from the moment I saw her. It’s been a day, so why put labels on anything yet?
“This is our first date.” I informed her and she gasped.
“First date? And meeting the family?” Mom shook her head in disbelief.
“You know what? Why am I even surprised? I’m just happy you found someone to bring.
But I’m telling you, she’s the type you lock down.
And she won’t stay single forever.” Mom kissed me on the cheek before flittering off somewhere else.
Her reminders of what I already knew annoyed me. She loved to point out the obvious, but I knew she meant well.
After a quick glance at Emersyn, I snuck out the back door, needing a moment of fresh air.
While I took a second to breathe, to quiet the rush of storm inside me, I battled my wants against her needs, but in the end, her needs had to come first. And that meant waiting until she was completely ready.
But in the meantime, there was no reason she couldn’t be my girlfriend. It was time to make her mine officially.
