Chapter 69
Anu-Ms K
It’s after midnight when we arrive at his New York apartment; another lavishly styled home with a beautiful view of the city.
This space looks more like a bachelor pad, with no fancy design like his place in Chicago.
You can tell he has lived here more. The leather L-shaped sofa looks a bit worn, no special décor or anything.
Just simple space with bachelor pad feels.
“Would you like to look around?”
“No, maybe later. I’m overstuffed from all the food Andrea kept shoving down my throat.”
He laughs.
“Soon as she heard ‘baby’, next thing is to overfeed you,” he says, smiling.
“She’s too much.” I say and he laughs.
“Alright, then let’s get you to bed,” he says, taking my hand and leading up the stairs towards what I presume is his bedroom.
He opens the door, and my eyes widen in awe at the expansive room.
I should have known the bedroom would be well decorated: a massive well-made bed in white sheets that look, and probably are, expensive, with dark wooden floor and large window with sheer curtains and dark ones at the side.
A slight peek of the balcony that looks like a great spot for morning tea.
I can see a chaise set up with a table. The walls are light gray with canned lights inserted in them.
I step towards the glass door, opening it to see a marble and massive bathroom, with multiple shower heads, double sink and another door.
I open the door to find a California closet, neatly arranged with all his clothes and shoes.
I return to the room. He has my small suitcase on the bed.
He’s sitting on the edge of the bed, reading something on his phone.
“Are you sure want to marry me?” I ask.
His head whips up fast with a scowl.
“Anu, please, don’t back track.” His voice is shaky.
“I’m not, just checking to make sure I’m what you want, because this whole room looks like a place for perfect people and, as you know, I’m far from perfect.”
He smiles and puts his hand out to me. I take his hand, and he pulls me to sit on his lap, squeezing my ass a bit.
“You are my perfectly imperfect wife to be, and I love you just the way you are.”
I cup his face and plant a kiss on his lips.
“You are very good at saying the right things.”
“It’s the truth. I don’t need a wife that’s exactly like me, and I’m grateful to have fallen in love with a brilliant and beautiful woman that complements me.” I kiss his lips again. “The tidiness is freaking you out.” He states and I nod.
“Remember: I promise to pay for someone to clean up after you.” I poke him.
“I love the mess,” I say.
“No, you don’t. You just don’t like to pick up after yourself, princess,” he reminds in a sly tone.
“Fine, just make sure you get someone that won’t quit after a week.”
“Rest assured they will be well paid, and they won’t quit,” he says, kissing my neck and rubbing my back.
“We are going back to Chicago after the ceremony, right?”
“I thought you might want to go somewhere for our honeymoon.”
“No, we must go back to Chicago, and then go and get my dad’s blessings.
Before we do anything else or tell anyone besides the people that will be at the wedding.
Nkem already agreed not to tell, but you know I can’t keep her quiet for long,” I say.
The heaviness of what I’m about to do weighs on me.
He stares into my eyes and I’m sure he can see the fear in me.
“Okay, princess. We return to Chicago and then go to your dad and brother.” I exhale. “We’ll be fine. I promise, Anu.”
I nod, resting my head on his shoulder.
