Chapter 9 #2
I caught the keys to the Barracuda as father tossed them to me before continuing to laugh as he went to the snow white 1969 Mustang Boss 429.
Giamo walked around handing out keys for the vehicles to everyone then father.
Once he got the keys in his hand he got in the car and started it up.
The thunder that came from the pipes could only be described as a melody of pure badassness.
I quickly jumped in the Barracuda and started it up.
The pipes on it was just as ferocious as the 429.
Within a few seconds the garage sounded like a drag strip as everyone was revving their engines ready to take off.
One by one we fell in line behind father as he pulled out the garage.
We followed him along the driveway to the front of the house where Monica, the ladies and kids were standing on the porch waving to our impromptu parade.
After security opened the gate, father floored his car and the race was on.
That had to have been the best time I have had here so far.
Seeing my native countryside at a high rate of speed was an adrenaline rush that was indescribable.
It took my mind off the coming war with Giovanni as I let my hair blow free in the wind and lived in the moment.
It was dark out by the time we made it back to the estate.
After parking the cars back in the garage, we were still on a rush.
Luna informed us the rest of the family had eaten their dinner already, which I was happy they didn’t wait on us.
She told us the ladies were in the parlor going over Monica and my wedding plans while the kids were in their favorite spot, the den playing video games.
When we walked into the parlor the ladies completely stopped talking as if they didn’t want us to hear what they were saying.
“Hello, ladies. What’s going on here?” I question, going over to Monica and placing a kiss on the top of her head.
“Nothing really just going over wedding stuff. You know stuff you men don’t like to be involved in.
I roll my eyes. “It’s not that we don’t like to be involved in it, it’s just that it can be too overwhelming sometimes.”
“Exactly, that’s why Keirra and I did just like you two and went to the Justice of Peace.” Felix blurts out next to Keirra who bucks her eyes. Felix now realizing what he said shares her expression.
“What did you say?” Edgar asks with a serious tone.
“I ugh, I ugh said Keirra and I went to the Justice of Peace.” Felix answers staring down at Keirra who locks her arms around him. Well, shit I did not expect to hear this.
“Keirra!” Granny gasps covering her mouth with tears in her eyes.
Keirra rushes to her taking her hands. “I’m sorry we didn’t tell you, Granny. We didn’t want to wait and with Monica and Axl planning their wedding, we didn’t want to take away from their celebration. We were going tell everyone after the wedding.”
“I can’t believe this. Boy, I ought to whoop your ass!” Edgar fumes pointing at Felix. “You just don’t take something that away from us! Didn’t you think we wanted to be there when our only granddaughter, hell our daughter got married?!”
“Welcome to our world.” James slips in now mean mugging me which has me glaring at Felix because his shit has my father-in-law looking like he wants to whoop my ass too.
Father steps into the center of the room with his hands raised.
“Now, let’s calm down everyone. I know we’re all surprised at my son’s unexpected announcement but let’s not fly off the handle.
Is this a surprise, yes but we knew they were going to get married eventually, right?
Should they have told us, yes but I understand them not saying anything because of Axl and Monica’s upcoming nuptials.
There is nothing we can do about it now so let’s just be happy for them.
I’m sure they will be planning their wedding next, right Felix?
” He eyes Felix who has no other choice but to shake his head up and down.
If he wanted to keep peace between him and Edgar he knows willingly or not he was going to have to give them a wedding.
Father claps his hands together before saying, “See, now that was easy. Edgar and Estelle, you have my word that a wedding with happen.”
Not sure if that appeased Edgar because he still looked like he wanted to do some damage to Felix.
Granny gave Keirra a long hug before the ladies bombarded her with their own hugs and asking her where her ring was.
Monica was the last to hug her. She wiped away her tears before pulling her best friend into a sisterly hug.
Monica probably felt the same way I did, I couldn’t be mad at them for following their hearts because we did the same thing.
Felix finally extended his hand to Edgar who seemed to contemplate taking it.
After a nudge from Granny he shook Felix’s hand and congratulated them.
“I need a drink.” Edgar declares afterwards heading to the game room that they had a fully stocked bar.
“I think we all do, come guys lets join my new grandfather-in-law for celebratory drinks.” Felix boosts strutting off.
I looked at Adam who failed to hold in his laughter as he imitated Felix’s strut.
That brought about a round of laughter as the rest of us gents strutted our way to the game room leaving the women hysterically laughing and cheering us on.
