Chapter 7 Choosing to Stay
“For years, everyone who came here ran off before their feet even touched the ground.”
Master couldn’t hide his disappointment, yet he spoke gently to comfort me. “Child, don’t worry. Tomorrow morning I’ll have your Senior Brother escort you back.”
The more they spoke, the harder my tears fell.
Senior Sister and Senior Brother even started frantically packing my things.
I grabbed Senior Sister’s hand through my sobs.
“Senior Brother, Senior Sister—I want to stay.”
Senior Sister froze, asking carefully, “You mean it?”
I nodded hard, wiped my face, slid off the kang, and knelt before Master.
“Master, please formally accept me as your disciple.”
“I am willing to cultivate in Heishui Sect for the rest of my life and do my part for the sect.”
They all stood stunned.
Master recovered first, hurriedly helping me up, his smile wide and bright.
“Good, good, good. From now on, Mingxi was the third disciple of Heishui Sect.”
Senior Brother beamed. “Awesome!”
“From now on we were family. Anything you need, just say it.”
Senior Sister pulled me into a tight hug, laughing.
“Right. Your Senior Brother is basically our sect’s pack mule.”
“Give him any job—he’ll get it done right.”
Senior Brother pretended to bristle.
Senior Sister raised a brow. “That was a compliment. I said you’re dependable.”
Senior Brother grinned again.
Feeling shy, I took out the gift I had prepared—a robe woven from heavenly silkworm silk.
I had raised the silkworms and spun the thread myself, step by step.
It was made with care, but compared to their gifts, it was nothing special.
Senior Brother wiped his hands on his apron and accepted it like priceless treasure.
Even though it was a size too small, he pulled it on happily.
“Fits great! Junior Sister, your hands are magic!”
Senior Sister silently mouthed to me: “Your Senior Brother is such a goof.”
