Chapter 60 The Standoff #2
“So I was thinking, we should really get ahead on this art project.” She smiles and licks her lips. “We could work on it at the coffee shop.”
“We have weeks to work together in class. I’m sure we’ll be fine.” I lengthen my stride, but she keeps pace even in those ridiculous heels.
“But we could work at the coffee shop.” She grabs my arm to stop me. If I don’t want to drag her with me and make a scene, I have to stop.
Turning, I glare at her. She’s working on my last nerve. Oblivious to my mood, she preens like a poodle at a dog show. Fuck this girl.
“See, everyone around here knows what happens in the coffee shop bathroom, but maybe you don’t since you’re new.” She grabs the necklace that falls between her cleavage, probably to draw my gaze to her breasts.
“You mean fucking in the bathroom. Yeah, I’m aware. But you know I’m spoken for, so I’m not sure why you would even imply I would want that.” I don’t have time for these games. I gave her an out, and she didn’t take it.
She laughs. “No one thinks that thing with Harper is going to last. I heard she’s frigid, and that’s why she’s still a virgin.”
My eyes narrow, and I grab her upper arm. “Who’s spreading that around?”
“Ow, you’re hurting me.” She pouts, but her eyes sparkle with interest. “Everyone knows. I had to change my bet. But I’m hoping you guys get impatient waiting for her to give it up.”
My brow furrows.
“I won’t tell if you don’t.” She bats her eyelashes.
I shove her away. “We have a project in class together and that’s the extent of our relationship. You’re not my friend, and I’m not interested.”
She purses her lips, but then turns and storms off into the school. Shaking my head, I walk over to the guys. Fuck, are all the girls at this school like that?
“Is that typical?” I gesture toward the door she disappeared behind.
“For Angela, yeah.” Eli shakes his head. “She’s always been a clinger. When one of us finished with her, she’d make the rounds until she found someone to fuck her.”
“She’s got a pretty talented mouth. Nice tits.” Jack leans back on the sign and looks across the parking lot. “Not much else to recommend her.”
I’ve never had trouble with women. I got a lot of interest, but nothing like the girls around here.
Speaking of… Sidney and her group stroll up to the sign and stop.
“Where’s your whore?” Ashley looks Eli up and down. She’s wearing his jersey with her cheerleading skirt.
Eli looks behind her. “Your mom didn’t ride with you? I guess she must be on her way then.”
Ashley narrows her eyes. Jack and Eli bump fists casually.
“We need to do the exchange after school. Harper can meet us in the locker room to get Eli’s jersey.” Sidney acts bored, but I bet they have something planned.
“We could just take it now if it’s an inconvenience to you.” Eli steps forward and holds out his hand.
Ashley backs up a step. When she doesn’t take it off, he puts his hand down. “We’ve got practice and can’t stop at Luke’s every night this week.”
“Like I said, you can give it back to us now.” Eli’s gaze moves past them.
Luke has his arm around Harper’s shoulders as they walk toward us. Harper swallows as they draw closer. Her gaze flits from us to the cheerleaders and back.
I’m not as attached to my number here as I was at my old school, but I have to admit, I like seeing it on Harper.
She’s wearing jeans today with a blue t-shirt on under my jersey.
I can understand the urge Caden had to fuck her wearing his jersey.
It’s like she’s advertising to the whole school she’s mine.
“Problems?” Luke stops behind Sidney.
“They want to change the conditions of the transfer.” Eli steps back and leans on the sign, casual now that Luke is here to take command. “They want Harper to meet them in the locker room after school.”
Sidney turns and almost jerks back at the sight of Luke’s arm around Harper’s shoulders. She’s practically tucked into his side. Harper doesn’t look comfortable with this confrontation.
Luke’s gaze narrows on Sidney. “Why would we change our agreement?”
“We have practice this week.” Finding her attitude again, Sidney straightens. “Driving over to your house for a minute exchange is ridiculous. Harper is perfectly safe in the school locker room, and we can hand it to her there.”
The perfectly safe doesn’t make me feel better. These girls are up to something. Luke’s eyes meet mine, and I step forward as he guides Harper into my arms. I draw her over to Jack and Eli. Caden remains standing behind Luke.
“You guys are being ridiculous.” Emma rolls her eyes. “If we really wanted to get to your pet, we wouldn’t have to try that hard.”
“I’m curious why the sudden change. You seemed eager to swap the jerseys at my house yesterday.” Luke circles around Sidney, breaking her off from the others. “Were you hoping more would happen?”
A brief flinch hits Sidney’s face. If I hadn’t been watching, I wouldn’t have seen it. That’s exactly what they wanted. They were hoping for a way back in.
“Is Brewster not up to your standards?” Luke steps around, stopping in front of her. “Tough shit. We had an agreement. You drop off the jersey. This isn’t our problem.”
Sidney’s face tightens. She doesn’t like the new order around here. But Luke isn’t the one who will take the brunt of her anger.
“It’s fine.” Harper steps out of my arms and next to Luke. Her eyes meet Ashley’s. “I can meet you in the locker room and give you Nico’s jersey. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
Luke’s jaw clenches.
Sidney smiles. “See, your pet can see reason. Be there after the last bell.”
“Okay.”
The cheerleaders turn and walk into the school. Luke’s fierce eyes meet all of ours as he nods toward the school. Anticipation thrums through my veins. He’s pissed.
