Chapter 19 Flirt and Run
He Tingzhou was such a guy who said one thing but meant another—a total tsundere!
If it weren't for meeting a straight shooter like me, who knew when he would ever date!
During the lunch break, He Tingzhou drove me home. On the way, he reminded me, "Pay close attention to your safety lately. Call me right away if anything comes up. I still feel like there's something off about this."
Of course there was. Just thinking about that woman who imitated me sent chills down my back.
Chef Zhang was a six-foot-tall guy. He definitely couldn't have pretended to be a woman. So was the woman in the surveillance his accomplice? Or was she just an innocent bystander that Chef Zhang had randomly accused?
The car pulled into the neighborhood. He Tingzhou looked around, a bit surprised. "Rent here isn't cheap. You just graduated not long ago. Does your salary cover it?"
I touched my nose and chuckled. "Well, my family has some resources. They bought the place for me before graduation."
He Tingzhou let out a deep sigh. "This puts a lot of pressure on me."
I blinked, pretending not to get it. "What pressure?"
"Nothing."
The car stopped downstairs. He Tingzhou turned to me and smiled faintly. "Aren't your values based on looks? Then I'm pretty confident in myself."
I couldn't help laughing. "Are you trying to seduce me? As a law-abiding citizen, I have to say no to improper temptations!"
He Tingzhou stayed cool. "No problem. We have all the time in the world. I'll get you eventually."
My heart skipped. I looked up and met He Tingzhou's deep black eyes.
In that instant, my heart pounded like a drum.
I looked away instinctively and mumbled, "Then it probably... won't be too long."
He Tingzhou smiled. Hands on the steering wheel, he looked at me with a grin. "I'm looking forward to it."
I felt too embarrassed under his stare. I hurriedly pushed at the car door to get out, but it wouldn't open after two tries. I turned back suspiciously. "Why did you lock the door?"
He Tingzhou stared at me for a long moment. His eyes darkened. But in the end, he just smiled and shook his head, then pressed the unlock button. "Nothing. Go rest up."
I stayed silent for two seconds. While he looked down, I suddenly reached out. My fingertips brushed his lips. Then I quickly pushed the door open and dashed out. "I'm heading up!"
Ignoring He Tingzhou's intense gaze, I smiled and waved. "Thanks for the ride, Officer He!"
Before he could react, I ran straight upstairs.
My phone buzzed twice. It was a message from He Tingzhou—aggressive, yet a little aggrieved:
"Lu Xiaoning, how could you flirt and then run?"
