Chapter 21 The White Powder

I was stunned. "How?!"

He Tingzhou told me to get in the car first. "We collected her fingerprints this morning, and she was supposed to stay at the station for questioning once the results came in.

But she said she had an important document to sign, so we let her go for now.

We planned to call her back together after the results. "

"Who knew the results came out in the afternoon? The fingerprints didn't match, and we couldn't reach her. Then her assistant called the police saying she'd been found dead at home."

I asked without thinking, "What was the cause?"

He Tingzhou glanced at me. "Poisoning. Suicide."

"Suicide?!"

I couldn't believe it. "With how much she hated me this morning, like she wanted to kill me, how could she commit suicide?"

He Tingzhou's eyes were dark. "From the scene investigation, there were no signs of forced entry. The assistant who reported it was the first and last person to enter her house."

With a new murder on our hands, He Tingzhou and I had no mood for romance. After he dropped me home, he headed straight to the crime scene.

"Watch out for yourself."

He reminded me. "Both cases are suspicious. Let me know about anything."

I nodded and watched him drive off.

Back home, after my shower, I sat on the bed thinking things over.

Chef Zhang had a solid alibi with witnesses from nine to ten. He couldn't have killed the bar owner. Miss Chen had the opportunity, but why would she poison herself to death?

And the woman in the surveillance who looked so much like me—if it was Miss Chen? But she had already disguised herself as me to frame me.

At that thought, I paused.

What if the person trying to frame me wasn't Miss Chen, but someone else?

After a quick mental storm, I froze. Then it hit me. I scrambled off the bed to the living room and dug through my shoulder bag.

Soon, I pulled a small bag from the inner pocket. It contained white powder that looked like salt.

So this was it. This was how it happened!

Just as shock hit me, there was a sudden knock at the door.

He Tingzhou's voice came from outside.

"Lu Xiaoning, open the door."
