Chapter Ten Purity #3

An idle mind is nothing but a recipe for overthinking. So, I need to find something to do in my spare time. I see that a lot of women are getting into Lego’s and puzzles. I thought about it because both are things that require concentration, time, and dedication. I will figure it out after a while.

Somehow, I landed on TikTok and went down a rabbit hole of a girl doing a story time.

I looked at my glass and noticed my lemon drop was finished.

That caused me to look at the shot of Henny that I ordered for Dom.

The ice had melted overtime, and I knew the drink was no good.

I reached over the table to grab the glass.

I threw the shot back that tasted slightly watered down.

I didn’t know what was going on, but it had been an hour since I’ve been here. Still no Dom. This wasn’t like him at all. I checked his location and sure enough he was still at work. He’s always at work. I hated to say it, but this shit was beginning to be really old.

Defeat was overcoming me. All the effort and time I put into this look.

Taking the time out to go to the store that he sent me to.

It had me feeling bad as hell. I should’ve gone with the girls from the beginning.

I missed my man though. The thought of being able to get some of his time was all I could think of.

I’ve been wanting it badly. I thought tonight would be the night that I finally get it. I guess I was mistaken.

“Excuse me, can I have the tab?”

“Yes. Are you sure you don’t want to wait for your guest?”

“I’m sure. Something came up unfortunately.”

“That is unfortunate. I’ll be sure to get you the check.”

She walked away in pursuit of the check.

A lone tear escaped my right eye. I wiped it instantly.

I felt bad as hell sitting here all alone.

Thinking I’m waiting for this nigga to show up.

I looked too damn good for this shit. I’m beyond pissed with Dom.

The least he could’ve done was text me to let me know he was going to be late. He could have said something.

The fact that he knew I would be there waiting and left me hanging disturbed me. Once I got the check, I retrieved two twenty-dollar bills from my wallet and laid them on the table before leaving. As I walked out of the restaurant, I made a group facetime to my girls.

“What y’all doing? Y’all left yet?”

“No girl we’re just now getting ready to leave Roni’s. You good?”

I was so irritated I could barely speak. It wasn’t until Jania repeated her question that I answered her.

“I was waiting for Dom at the restaurant, and he never showed.”

“Come again, say what?!”, Roni asked with much attitude.

“I waited for an hour, and the nigga never came. No text or nothing.”

“That’s bullshit Pure, and I’m going to be the one to tell you”, Roni said.

“I know.”

“So where is he Pure? Have you talked to him at all?”

“I haven’t heard from him since earlier today. I checked his location and apparently, he’s still at work. Guess I’ll just go home and drown in my sorrows. Drink me a bottle of wine and call it a night.”

“Nah the hell you won’t. You’re already dressed. Come out to eat with us and enjoy your night.”

“I don’t know Roni. That shit has kind of killed my mood. Seems like the nigga is more engaged to the law firm than he is to me.”

“Well, you know the old folks say, if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all. So, I’ll keep my mouth closed on that. I just don’t want you to let your kid free night go to waste. Neither do I want you to be in bad spirits. Come on out with us.”

The valet finally pulled my car to the curb.

I heard everything that Roni said, and she was right.

If I decide to go home, then I would be sitting in my sorrows.

And quiet its kept, with all of the hours Dom have been working, I’ve been feeling neglected.

I’ve tried to be hopeful and tell myself this is just right now.

I tried to convince myself daily that every rain check, and late night wouldn’t stay this way.

So, me going home would only leave me in sadness.

I ended the call with my girls and headed in pursuit of Roni’s place.

When I made it, them heffas met me outside all giddy and shit.

They were determined to not let Dom working late ruin my mood.

Seeing them put a smile on my face instantly.

They both wrapped their arms around me tightly. That quickly put a smile on my face.

The power of having good friends. They had the ability to put me in a better mood quickly. Just being in their presence was already lifting my spirits.

“I love y’all. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without y’all.”

“And we love you back friend. We have your back always.”

“What she said. And if we need to roll up to that law firm and wreck some shit, I’m with that too.”

We all shared a laugh at Roni’s crazy ass. Due to my feelings being hurt, I almost wanted to take her up on that offer. Because of my profession and his, I decided against it. He will see me and hear from me though. I’m no taking this shit lightly at all.

I just wanted to enjoy my night. Tomorrow I will be back in mommy mode.

I have been working hard as hell. I deserve to let my hair down.

Whether that’s with Dom or without him. Me and the girls wanted a night of fun with some good music.

I was cool with it as long as we weren’t going back to Platinum.

I’d go anywhere but there. I didn’t want to take a chance on running from bullets tonight. Hell nah, not in these heels.

We decided to start our night at Sinclair’s.

We all love their crab claws. Being that I wasn’t driving, I plan on having me a drink here and when we get to the venue.

The place was full but because they made reservations we were seated fast. We frequented here often, so a lot of the staff is familiar with us.

They often time already knew what we wanted to eat and drink.

I ordered an order of sauteed crab claws.

I decided to go ahead and add my to go order as well.

I’m going to devour these with a good drink. By the time I get home, I may be hungry again. That will satisfy my overnight hunger that I know is sure to come.

“Sinclair’s is booming tonight ain’t it.”

“It really is. I wasn’t expecting this, but they do have that good shit on the menu.”

I laughed and agreed. We have been coming here since we became friends. It quickly became our spot. We would meet up here once or twice a month just to catch up. We try out new restaurants as well, but this one is our favorite.

“I’m actually glad I came out with y’all. I would’ve been at home bout drunk listening to slow jams.”

“Allll in your damn feelings. We can’t have that shit sis. You’re too pretty for that. Plus, you know my motto”, Roni said, and licked the salt around her rim.

“What’s that sis?”, I asked.

“Fuck niggas, get money! Ain’t nothing new. I can’t be out here falling in love and shit.”

“One day you’re going to meet your damn match.”

“I can’t wait to see. There will be no more talk about all that fuck niggas, get money shit”, Jania said.

“Shit, I can’t wait to see the day my damn self. Until then I’ll be in disbelief that the shit can actually happen. Matter of fact, I don’t think it’s a nigga walking this earth that has the capabilities to make me a one nigga type of bitch. Shit ain’t in my deck of cards.”

There was a loud commotion that disturbed us from our conversation.

“Awwwwww”, the crowd said in unison.

Me and my girls all looked at one another.

Trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

Like most black people, we all wanted to be nosey as hell too.

I heard one of the people looking on say that a guy was proposing.

Me being the hopeless romantic that I am I wanted to see.

I remember when I was proposed to. It was the most beautiful thing.

We got up from our seats to see the love story unfold like the rest of the onlookers.

I whipped my phone out to record for my snappers to see.

Roni nosey ass beat us into the crowd. I guess me and Jania wasn’t moving fast enough for her.

I was busy setting my camera to record on its own when Roni damn near knocked me over.

“Girl ain’t shit going on in there that you want to see.”

She was trying to deter me from going into the crowd to be nosy. Hell, I wanted to see like everybody else.

“Girl like hell I don’t. I just love love.”

“Pure, you don’t want to see shit in there sis. I’m telling you.”

Jania was looking just as confused as I was.

I don’t know what the hell had got into Roni but she was aggravating the hell out of me.

I pushed her ass out of the way and tried to make it through the crowd.

Jania was right on my heels. I wanted to see something beautiful to remind me of how precious love is.

When I made it where I could visibly see the couple, it felt like my heart stopped. My phone fell and hit the concrete floor. The screen shattered on impact. As crazy as it sounds, in that moment it felt like my heart did the same.

The shit that I was seeing would make the healthiest person sick to their stomach.

I was looking at my nigga on one knee, proposing to a bitch while this ring was sitting on my finger.

He had me waiting at the restaurant for him, when all the while the nigga had other plans.

Obviously, the plans he had were way bigger than what he and I had going on.
