Chapter Ten

Myra

I am lying on the bed with my back to the door.

I am so tired. Matt said he would be right back, but I am about to fall asleep.

As I start dozing off, I hear the door open.

I don’t move because I know Matt will just sit with me.

He doesn’t say anything, which I find odd.

When I roll to look at him, I immediately let out a shrill scream and throw myself out of the bed when it’s not Matt’s face that I see.

He charges at me so fast that all I can do is turn my body.

Arms wrap around me, and a hand covers my mouth before there is a pinch in the side of my neck.

My body starts getting weak fast, and my muscles start to give out.

He scoops me up and lays me on the bed before he disappears.

I am in and out of consciousness for an unknown amount of time before I feel someone pulling my pants off.

“S-Stop,” I mumble.

“Shhh,” he says. “Be still and let me fuck this tight little pussy.”

I can’t move my body or fight back when he spreads my legs and climbs on top of me. I hear a wrapper tear open before he pushes into me. Tears slip out of my eyes as I try to force them to stay open. I want to be sure of who is hurting me.

His grunts and groans as he thrusts into me are like knives in my ears.

I don’t feel any physical pain, but the emotional pain is overwhelming.

Why does this keep happening to me? What did I do in a past life that was so bad that I keep getting hurt like this?

My entire life has been nothing but pain.

I get a glimpse of freedom, and now it feels impossible to get back to that feeling.

He moans like a wild animal in my ear as he comes, as if mocking my tears. “I’ll always be back for you, Myra. Don’t think you can escape us,” he says as he covers my mouth again and pinches my nose closed. A few seconds later, the world starts to darken, and I slip away.

“How the fuck did this happen?” Matt growls. “This facility is supposed to always remain locked. How was anyone able to get in here without anyone knowing a goddamn thing?”

“Sir, I know you are upset, but…”

“Upset?” Dominic shouts. “She was raped in your fucking building while your fucking staff locked her psychiatrist out. He was supposed to be able to stay with her for the duration of her evaluation. He submitted the papers saying she was of sound mind and not a danger to herself. You took someone’s word of her distress and have no idea who actually gave the call to lock him out.

You better count your fucking days, because I will own this goddamn place. ”

“I understand you are upset. You have every right to be, but I swear to you, this will be…”

“Mmm,” I groan and turn into the warmth near me.

“Hey,” Dominic says, taking my face between his hands. His voice is suddenly calm and nurturing, and it relaxes me. “Can you hear me?”

“Mhmm,” I murmur.

“Are you okay? Are you in pain?” he asks.

“My neck,” I mutter. He turns my face, and I can feel him get tense.

“She was sedated with a needle in her neck. A medical professional wouldn’t do that,” he says angrily.

“Hey,” Matt says, kneeling down to look at me. My eyes open, revealing that I am in a different room now.

“W-Where am I?” I ask.

“I had you moved rooms so the police could process the one you were in,” he says. “I know you are still groggy, but I need to know if you saw them.”

“Yeah,” I say, suddenly tearful.

“What did they look like?”

“Ch-Chambers,” I mutter. “It was Judge Chambers. He’s…”

“I swear on everything, he will never touch you again,” he says. “He what?”

“He’s my uncle,” I whisper. “My mom’s brother. He was adopted.”

“Are you fucking…” Dominic starts to say aggressively, stopping himself and taking a deep breath.

“I am taking her into my care,” Matt says as he stands. “I have the legal authority to do it. Email me the discharge paperwork. Dom, pick her up and let’s go.”

“You can’t…”

“Fucking watch me,” Matt snaps. “Someone here took money to allow him to come into this place and rape her.”

“I wanna go home,” I sigh.

“Let’s go home,” Dominic says, scooping me into his arms. I turn myself into his body as he cradles me. I fall asleep in his arms as he carries me.

I wake to more talking, and Dom notices right away. “Hey. There you are,” he says softly.

“Are we home?” I ask quietly.

“We are. We have people over. Are you up to sitting up and talking for a second?”

“Yeah,” I sigh. He helps me sit up in his lap, and Natalie comes over to check my wrists.

“Hi, Myra,” a woman smiles at me. “I am Detective Naomi Higgins with the FBI.”

“Uh oh. Did I start something?” I ask.

“I am Kathie Jackson. I am the judge who will be taking over your case. Amy Peters is the district attorney. You’ll meet her soon,” Kathie says.

“It’s so late,” I say. “Why are you guys here?”

“How are you?” Naomi asks.

“That is a stupid fucking question,” I snap.

“Myra, are you absolutely positive about Judge Chambers?” she asks.

“Yes,” I say.

“Why didn’t you tell us he was your uncle?” Dominic asks.

“I… because… I was scared. I’m more scared of him than I am of Dad and Leon put together,” I say honestly. “I’ve tried my best to block him out.”

“Has he hurt you before?” Naomi asks.

“Uh… well… he… he is the reason I was put on birth control,” I say carefully. “He got me pregnant when I was twelve.”

“Oh, Myra,” Dominic says softly. “Did you have the child?”

“Yeah,” I say with a sigh. “She’s fourteen.”

“Have you met her?” Natalie asks me.

“No. I’ve talked to her parents, though.

She knows who I am and what the situation was.

She wants to meet me, but I don’t think I’m there yet.

Her mom says that she understands and that she’s not upset at me, so that’s helpful.

One evening, I was left alone for a little too long, so I took her to the fire department,” I explain.

“She was a week old. I had her at home, so no one knew she even existed. I didn’t want her to grow up around what I did, so I gave them all of the information that I knew.

I even gave them my name so that if whoever she was placed with had questions, they could ask. ”

“I’m so sorry,” Dominic says tearfully.

“It’s okay. The moment I gave her up, I knew she was going to have a better life.

I can accept it because she would have just ended up in the exact same place I was in.

I would’ve done it all over again just to make sure she was safe,” I say.

“I only struggle with meeting her because I know it’s going to hurt, and I’m going to want to keep her for myself.

I don’t think I even could because I surrendered her, but I would never take her from her parents anyway.

They are amazing people who have given her a wonderful life.

She is so smart and beautiful. She’s everything I would’ve ever hoped for.

Her parents struggled for years to have a baby, having over twenty miscarriages.

I don’t want to mess up their family or bring chaos into her life.

She deserves better than what I have to offer her.

Future kids are obviously a different story.

If I get pregnant or plan to have a child, I will have a conversation with her.

I don’t want her to think that I’m trading her in or that I didn’t want her.

I do want her, but that is not what she needs. ”

“I understand,” Dominic says.

“So, I will have to contact them,” Naomi says. “If her parents consent, I would like to test her DNA. If I can prove that he is her biological father, he will go to jail for a very long time.”

“Okay. They are nice people, so I’m sure they will help,” I say.

“I will also offer for them to be placed under protection to ensure no one tries to find her,” Naomi says before asking, “What is her name?”

“I named her Rose, after Mom. That was her middle name, and it’s mine as well. They kept her name the same,” I say.

“Okay,” she smiles. “Anything else we need to know?”

“I’m pretty sure Dad killed Mom,” I say. “Leon said I’d die just like she did. He didn’t specify suicide.”

“I’ll have the autopsy report pulled so I can review it,” Naomi says.

“I am transferring the conservatorship to Dominic and Matthew,” Kathie says. “In ninety days, they can sign off on it ending. That is the easiest way, and you obviously trust them.”

“What about everything else?” I ask.

“You are being granted a protection order against Walter and Leon, and I’ll add Alvin, too,” she says. “Amy is filing charges on all of them. There will be a warrant for their arrest by morning.”

“Thank you guys,” I sigh.

“I’m sorry all of this happened. Especially with the judge. I always knew he was corrupt. I just hate that someone had to get hurt for him to go down,” Kathie says.

“What do I need to do going forward?” I ask.

“I need you to be completely transparent with me on everything,” Naomi says. “Any other crimes you saw or knew of. You are a victim in this, and you will not be in any trouble at all, but the more information we have, the longer they go away.”

“I… can I write it out?” I ask.

“That’s fine,” she smiles. “Get some sleep, okay?”

“I need to shower in acid first,” I say. “But thank you.”

“I will keep you as updated as I can. I’d advise you to avoid leaving the property alone until we have them in custody.”

“Okay,” I sigh.

I lay my head on Dominic as everyone says goodbye. I stay like this for a while until someone breaks the silence.

“Matt, why don’t you and Dom help her shower? I’ll make us all something to eat. We can curl up and watch a movie,” Natalie says.

“Do you think that’s…” Matt starts to say.

“Let’s make that movie in bed,” I say. “I want to lie down, but I don’t think I’m ready to sleep. I don’t think I will ever be able to sleep again.”

“Are you going to drool all over the place again if we help you shower?” Dominic asks.

“Probably,” I laugh. “I feel unclean, and it makes me want to peel my skin off.”
