Chapter 6 #2
Heath came up to her and offered his hand to assist her in exiting the vehicle. “My sex life has been boring, too, lately. That’s why I’m here. It’s not because of my partners, but the lack of them,” he explained.
He had a lack of partners? Impossible.
He was sinfully handsome and what she saw of his body earlier—which was everything—proved he stayed in good shape.
If she had to guess, he was in his mid-forties.
His clothes, now that he was wearing some, appeared to be quality.
She had no idea what he did for a living but could guess that he was well-established and probably didn’t have to scrimp and save to afford this week like she had.
Unless he had a questionable personality, he had to be a catch.
Once she had both feet on the ground, he said, “I’ve been a bit swamped lately with work, so I haven’t had time to deal with dates or even hookups. I figured a vacation wouldn’t hurt. So, here I am.”
“How did you find out about the resort?” Dayne asked him as he hooked an arm through Cara’s and began to guide her toward the event hall’s front entrance.
“Believe it or not, I was searching online to find a place that would meet my requirements to unwind and this resort popped up as an ad.”
“Well, it’s good to know our advertising dollars are hard at work.” Keeping his arm linked with Cara’s, Dayne pulled out a ring of keys and unlocked the hall’s door. He stepped inside, unlocked a clear plastic box over the light switches, and with a flick of his wrist, the room lit up.
“Damn,” Heath murmured, taking it all in.
It definitely looked different this afternoon compared to last night. No loud music, crazy lights, and even crazier costumes. It seemed super tame.
Dayne pointed out the stage, where the DJ had been set up last night, and the bar area, before directing them to the back of the hall. Where Cara had made her escape.
“You could do a lot with this space,” Heath commented.
“That’s the point. Weddings. Parties. Whatever. Even funerals, if someone wanted that.” He grinned.
He led them out the back after shutting off the lights and locking up, then took them to the exterior stairway at the rear of the building; the one with the sign pointing up toward Heaven .
Dayne finally released Cara’s arm and he motioned for her to climb the stairs.
Suddenly, her heartbeat was pounding in her neck. Upstairs was where the themed playrooms were.
You can do this. Take one step, then the next. The same as you’re going to do this whole week.
As she climbed the stairway to Heaven, Dayne stayed on her heels.
Heath, following Dayne, asked, “So, what happened to that three-year relationship, Cara?”
“Sounds like shitty sex,” Dayne answered, following her up the steps.
Unfortunately, that was only one part of it. “That, plus my best friend. ”
Dayne took the last step to reach the landing and used her shoulder to turn her toward him. “Sorry, what?”
Cara pulled in a breath, trying to cool the anger that wrapped around the memory. “My best friend happened.” So-called best friend. A real best friend would never have stabbed her in the back like that.
Heath reached the landing and stood behind Dayne. She took note that their heights were very similar. Maybe Heath was slightly taller. Either way, they were both taller than her five-foot-five.
“And they didn’t include you?” Heath asked.
What? Maybe that was normal thinking here on this ranch but it couldn’t be in the real world. Could it? “Would that have made it any better?”
“It would for me,” Dayne answered.
“Well, I’m not into women. Especially traitors.” At least she didn’t think she was attracted to the same sex, but she hadn’t tested that theory. “Even if he had bothered to ask me first, I would’ve turned him down. Right before I packed my things.”
“Sounds like you packed your things anyway.”
She met Heath’s eyes over Dayne’s shoulder. “True. But I would’ve made that decision prior to him sleeping with her. That decision was taken away from me.”
“I don’t think they were actually sleeping.” Dayne smirked.
The man was certainly turning out to be a smart ass.
“You’ve never had a threesome?” Heath asked.
“No.”
He watched her carefully when he asked, “Are you against having sex with multiple people at the same time?”
She had read plenty of books where more than two characters were involved intimately.
While reading, she tried to picture herself in their place.
It had been both exciting and terrifying at the same time.
“I’m not against them per se. I just never had the opportunity to try it, I guess.
” Though, she did watch the orgy this morning with great interest.
“Just not with other women.”
“It’s not my thing. This morning proved you’re not against it, Heath.”
He smiled. “No. But like sex between two people, it can be great or it can really suck. It depends on who you partner up with.”
“Did this morning suck?” Dayne asked him.
“It did not. Nobody was selfish or jealous, or trying to be the center of attention.”
She sliced her gaze back to Dayne. “How about you?”
Dayne shrugged. “Basically, I love sex. All kinds. With just about anyone.”
Her eyes went wide. “Anyone?”
“Adults who consent, of course.” He moved past her but paused before opening the door to Heaven. “Just be aware that the playrooms could be occupied and have the blinds open. Guests might also be in the hallway observing. Let’s keep our conversation to a minimum.”
She grabbed his arm to stop him from opening the door. “Wait. I still have questions.”
Dayne turned and cocked an eyebrow. “Ask away.”
“You said you’re open to having sex with anyone. I assume that means not only women.”
“Correct.”
So, he was fine having sex with men. The same as Heath.
A thought popped into her head. “Trans?”
“I’m good with anyone. ”
Her eyebrows pinched together. “Anyone?”
“Anyone,” he confirmed with a nod. “As long as they’re into what I’m into, I’m good with them. I don’t stick to one flavor. Plus, vanilla is boring.”
If they’re into what I’m into...
“What are you into?” she couldn’t resist asking.
Dayne’s lips twitched. “The list will be shorter if you ask what I’m not into.”
“And that would be?” she prodded.
He met Heath’s eyes for a second before swinging his back to Cara. “For another time.”
“List one. I’m curious.” This conversation was enlightening for sure. Being a librarian, she loved knowledge. She also loved to do deep dives into all kinds of subjects. Hence, why she was now at the resort. But this might be the first time she’d taken her “research” this far.
“Blood play.”
She agreed with Heath when he murmured, “Understandable.”
She didn’t know everything involved with blood play and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to find out. None of the books she’d read included that specific kink, but a lot of them did have power plays and Dom/sub relationships. “Are either of you a Dom?”
“I am not,” Dayne answered.
When she glanced at Heath, he shook his head. “No.”
“What about a sub?”
“No,” both men answered at the same time.
Her brow wrinkled. “What are you?”
Dayne’s smile was huge when he answered simply, “Horny.”
She dropped her head to hide her giggle .
He went on to explain. “I don’t need power over someone else, even during sex. I’m all about fluidity and pleasure. Giving and taking. I don’t follow any rules. My brother is the rule follower. I’m the rule breaker.”
“How about you?” she asked Heath next.
“It seems Dayne and I are on the same page.”
