Chapter 37
Kaz
“I knew you would contact me again, Little Devil,” Lockhart purrs out, making me cringe. He swirls the straw around his drink while looking at me, hungrily. His gaze makes me sick to my stomach.
“I need money,” I say.
He smiles wide, before taking a sip of his drink and leaning back in the dingy booth we are seated at. “I’m sure I could find a few ways for you to make some money.” He eyes me, ogling my body, the implications clear in his eyes. I can’t see Jonathan or Jamison but I can practically feel the anger radiating from them, wherever they are.
My eyes narrow on Lockhart. “You know that’s not what I meant. The only place I’ll be making money in the underground will be in the ring.”
“Pity," he says, looking out the window first before focusing back on me. “I was hoping to find out what has both of my spawn so wrapped up in you.”
Shock jolts through me but I’m hoping I don’t show it outwardly. He knows I’ve been with both of them? What else does he know?
“You know the ring is different now," he states, pulling me from my thoughts.
I roll my eyes at him. “What? Do I have to bet money on myself? It can’t be much different from before. You fight. If you win, you walk away a few bucks richer. If you lose, you walk away bruised and battered.”
Lockhart laughs out loud, causing a few people to turn our way. “It really has been a while since you’ve been down there, hasn’t it?”
I glare at him, not appreciating the way he is mocking me.
He leans in closer, “Oh sweet girl, how things have changed. Yes, Little Devil, the winner walks away with a decent amount of money. The winner also gets to make a choice.” Lockhart pauses for dramatic effect, making me want to lean over and choke the shit out of him. “If the winner so chooses, they get to fuck the loser.”
I scoff before leaning back in my seat. “You’re fucking with me.”
“I’m not," he replies flippantly. He swirls the straw around his drink again. “The winner gets to fuck the loser right there in the ring, in front of everyone. Man, woman, it doesn’t matter. It’s entirely the winner’s choice.”
“Why the fuck would anyone agree to that?” I ask, still not quite believing what he’s telling me.
“Money of course, Little Devil. You of all people would know what it’s like to be desperate enough to want to escape.”
I glare at him, making him laugh again. More people look our way.
“Come," he says, moving to slide out of his side of the booth. “We are drawing too much attention and I would prefer if we spoke somewhere more private.”
I hesitate. I know the guys are somewhere watching and listening. They also told me not to leave with him. My job was to keep him here long enough for them to take out Lockhart’s men. But if I don’t get up now, he might leave before we have the chance to really get him alone. We need this. I slide out of my booth quickly and follow Lockhart outside. His car waits right outside the doors to the bar we were just in. It’s as if he had this timed perfectly. My stomach lurches, causing me to wonder If I’m making a mistake, as he opens the door and ushers me inside. He slides in next to me, closing the door behind him. I look around as the car pulls forward, noting the privacy glass that separates the driver from us. The windows are all also blacked out.
“Would the pretty Little Devil still like to fight?” Lockhart purrs, putting his hand on my leg. He leans in closer to me and my entire body tenses up.
I grip his hand hard and move it off my leg before gritting out, “back up.”
His eyes narrow. “We're out of sight now. You don’t have to pretend anymore. I know how much you like dick. You’re fucking both of them, after all. Show me why you’re so special. Show me, and maybe, maybe I'll put in a good word for you in the ring.
His last sentence makes me smile. I’ve let this go on too long anyway and I can’t stand the thought of being trapped in this car with him any longer. Besides, Jonathan and Jamison are going to punish me for leaving with Lockhart in the first place so I might as well get some satisfaction before they get a hold of me. I lean over towards Lockhart, still smiling. I can see the excitement in his eyes, the closer I get.
“That won’t be necessary,” I purr out. He scrunches his eyebrows in confusion so I continue. “You see, I don’t need you to put in a good word when I can just call my daddy himself and ask him nicely.”
“What are you talking about, girl?” He asks me with anger coating his words.
“Oh, you didn’t know?” I say leaning back in my seat, pretending to make myself comfortable. “Diablo Degerson is my father. You seem to know everything. I’m surprised you didn’t catch this.”
“Little Devil," he whispers to himself, clearly putting two and two together.
“Makes you wonder what else you’ve missed, doesn’t it?” I ask him, smirking.
“Oh, Little Devil,” Lockhart says with a smile, making me pause. “I’m going to thoroughly enjoy making the daughter of Diablo Degerson scream.” He lunges for me, wrapping his hands around my throat and squeezing tightly. Leaning in, he licks up the side of my face. “I’m going to fuck you until you bleed out around me. I may even lock you up and keep you forever.” A muffled banging sounds from the back of the vehicle.
I don’t have time to react because the car we are in comes to a sharp stop, causing us both to fly forward. My head hits the floorboard of the car hard enough to daze me.
“What the fuck is going on?” I hear Lockhart scream towards the privacy glass as it rolls down. I see his eyes go wide, making me whip my head up to look at what he’s seeing. Jonathan climbs through from the front seat just as the door to the car is ripped open and Jamison is reaching in to pull Lockhart out.
