Chapter 38

Sadie

K eeping her eyes off Ellie in the little black cotton V-neck dress she was wearing was easier said than done for Sadie. Sadie had spent the better part of the two hours she’d been at the Mackenzie’s house trying to not let her mind run wild with the idea of taking that dress off Ellie. Although, if their earlier conversation was any indication, Sadie wouldn’t have to wait too much longer for that dream to become a reality.

Sadie had overthought everything before the party. What she was wearing. What perfume to use. Even the gift she’d gotten Ellie. She’d settled on khaki shorts, a blue tank top, and sandals. Casual, but cute. Her mom had lent her a perfume—Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue—and Sadie had to admit she felt pretty damn good. Especially when her eyes caught Ellie’s across the yard and she came running toward her.

“Hey! You’re here!” Ellie wrapped her arms around Sadie’s neck before kissing her quickly.

“I wouldn’t miss my girlfriend’s birthday for anything.”

Ellie’s smile made Sadie fall deeper in love with her as Ellie led her behind the garage.

“Are you wanting to reminisce about our first kiss?” Sadie teased as this time she gently pressed Ellie against the wall.

Between kisses, Ellie simply said, “I’m ready.”

“Ready for…”

It took Sadie a second to realize what Ellie was talking about. But as soon as she did, her entire body reacted. Her palms started sweating as her stomach felt like she was on a roller coaster. Sadie’s smile spread so damn wide she only hoped it didn’t look too cheesy.

“If you are, I am.”

“Tonight?”

“Tonight.”

Now all Sadie had to do was wait for the festivities to die down. Which, at a Mackenzie party, could be well after midnight.

It was currently just past nine p.m. and Sadie was sitting at a table in the backyard watching Ellie and Eden do karaoke to a Wicked song. They were nailing it, of course, and Sadie watched in awe at Ellie at how easily she held her own with her aunt. There was no doubt in Sadie’s mind that if her current desire to be an ultrasound tech didn’t work out, Ellie definitely had a future on stage.

As Ellie made her way off the patio that was serving as the makeshift stage, she rejoined Sadie at the table.

“How’d I sound?”

“Amazing as usual.”

Leaning toward her, Sadie kissed her. She loved that they didn’t have to care who saw them, even with Ellie’s whole family and Sadie’s parents somewhere in the crowd of people. There was a long table set up with half-empty boxes of every pizza imaginable, as well as breadsticks and two birthday cakes. Sadie loved that their parents made sure they each had their own.

“So,” Ellie put her hand on Sadie’s inner thigh as she whispered into her ear, “this party should be over soon.”

“I thought Mackenzie parties never ended.”

“Just disperse.” Ellie smirked. “We’ll take it to my room as people start to leave, okay?”

“I need to give you your present, too.”

Ellie’s eyebrow arched as her smirk grew. “Oh, is that what the kids are calling it now?”

Rolling her eyes was completely involuntary for Sadie.

“You are just like Mason.”

“So I’ve been told.”

Another painfully long hour passed before the party had finally wound down to just a few people. Sadie watched as Ellie said goodnight to her parents and siblings before taking Sadie’s hand and walking her out to her car. The noises from the party and the songs that were still playing on the portable speakers faded as they walked into the front yard. There were only a few cars left, and Sadie was suddenly insanely nervous about what was about to happen.

And on top of it all, she still wanted to give Ellie her present. Nervously, Sadie reached into her car and pulled the small black box out of the back seat. She’d been glad no one seemed to have noticed it with the top down on her car. Sadie held it in her hand as Ellie smiled at her.

“What’s that?”

“Your birthday present.”

“It looks like jewelry.” Ellie’s eyes sparked. “I love jewelry.”

“Aww, man. Really? I guess I shouldn’t have gotten you this then.”

Extending the box out to Ellie, she watched as she carefully opened it. Ellie gasped, putting her hand to her heart as she studied the ring.

“Sadie,” Ellie tenderly took the ring out and held it in between her fingers, “it’s gorgeous.”

“It’s from the 1920s.”

“Shut up. It is not.”

“It is,” Sadie laughed. “Do you like it?”

“I love it.” Carefully, Ellie slipped the ring onto her ring finger with the heart facing inward. She studied it for a moment longer before wrapping her arms around Sadie’s neck. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

Their lips came together sweetly, but it quickly turned into something more. Ellie gently pushed Sadie against the car door before seeming to remember they were closer to her bedroom. Looking over her shoulder toward the backyard, Ellie nodded toward the garage.

“Come on.” Taking Sadie’s hand again, the two briskly walked across the yard to the garage.

“They’re all going to know what we’re doing,” Sadie said as she kept looking over her shoulder.

“They will if you keep making it look so obvious,” Ellie laughed as she opened the door to the stairs. She let Sadie go up first, and soon as they were alone in the apartment, their kissing continued. They kicked their sandals off by the door as they walked into the living room lip locked.

“Sadie?”

“Hmm?”

“Do you want this?”

“More than anything.” Sadie breathlessly kissed Ellie’s neck several times, knowing the spot was one Ellie loved. The previous hickey had taught Sadie that much. “Do you want this?”

“I do.”

“Good.”

“Couch or bed?”

“What?” Sadie asked between kisses on Ellie’s neck and ears.

“Bed, right? We should do it on the bed. My bed is way more comfortable than the couch. Not that my couch isn’t comfortable. But I totally think that the bed is…”

Sadie covered Ellie’s lips with her own as she stopped her rambling. She felt Ellie relax as she moved her arms slowly from Sadie’s side to around her back. Doing the same, Sadie pulled Ellie closer. And Ellie’s moan as Sadie pressed her tongue into her mouth nearly drove her insane in the best way.

“Did you just stop my nervous ramblings by kissing me?”

“It worked, didn’t it?”

Sadie smirked as she took a moment to really read Ellie. She was nervous, that much Sadie could tell. But Sadie was nervous as well, so it made her feel better Ellie was as well. But there was something else in Ellie’s eyes that Sadie hadn’t seen before.

Desire.

Licking her lips, Sadie tenderly framed Ellie’s face with her hands. She forced herself to take in a few long, slow breaths.

“Are you nervous?”

“Yeah,” Ellie nodded. “You?”

“Yeah,” Sadie paused, pulling away from Ellie just a little more, but still staying in her arms. “Do you want to stop?”

“No,” Ellie firmly shook her head as Sadie moved her hands down to Ellie’s hips. “I’m not nervous in a bad way. It’s the kind of nervous when you’re on stage and the curtain is about to go up and it’s your big moment. Or when you’re on the mound ready to pitch before a big game.”

“I’m kinda impressed you knew it was a mound.”

“Shut up and kiss me again.”

And Sadie did. She kissed her as she slowly led Ellie backward toward the bed. Ellie put her hands under Sadie’s tank top as they walked, lifting it over her head and letting it fall to the floor. Her hands seemed to instantly gravitate toward Sadie’s breasts as she gently took each of them in her hands.

“You’ve been hiding these under a shirt for too long.” Ellie reached around Sadie’s back, unhooking her bra effortlessly and dropped it to the floor by her tank top.

“That was smooth.”

“Thanks,” Ellie giggled.

“Is it okay if I take your dress off?”

“Absolutely.”

Sadie gathered the hem of Ellie’s dress in her hands as she lifted it up and over her body. She gasped at the sight in front of her as it was more than Sadie was expecting. Ellie’s breasts were full and beautiful in a black lace bra. The matching thong left little to Sadie’s imagination.

“Damn, Ellie.” Sadie dropped the dress slowly as Ellie unhooked her bra and took off her thong. All the while, she never broke eye contact with Sadie. Ellie looped her thumbs through the loops in Sadie’s shorts.

“Can I take these off?”

All Sadie could do was nod.

And try not to fall on the hardwood as Ellie fumbled with the button of her shorts. Why the damn things had two buttons was beyond Sadie, but it provided a lightness to the moment as they both laughed.

“Don’t laugh,” Ellie laughed again, “you’re making me nervous.”

“Here, let me help.” Sadie gently put her hands beside Ellie’s on the waistband of her shorts as she unbuttoned them. She let Ellie take them off, along with her underwear that was nowhere near as cute as Ellie’s, as Sadie braced herself on Ellie’s shoulder.

Standing naked in front of each other was much less awkward than Sadie had over-thought it to be. Sadie took in the sight of Ellie’s body, who seemed to do the same with her body. For a moment, neither of them moved. They simply savored the moment.

That was until Ellie closed the gap between them and pressed her body into Sadie’s. Gently, Sadie laid her down on the bed. It was clear they were still trying to figure things out, but they communicated until they found a spot that worked for both of them.

With Ellie under her and Sadie straddling her hips, Sadie took the moment to check in with her once more.

“You still good?”

Ellie nodded, taking in a deep breath. “I am. Now touch me.”

Sadie felt herself get wet at the request. How was it possible for one woman to be so damn hot? And with her words ? She tried not to linger too hard on it as she moved her body slowly down Ellie’s until she was nestled between her legs.

“Let me know if you don’t like something, okay?”

“Ditto,” Ellie squirmed on the bed in preparation for Sadie’s touch. “But, seriously, I’m going to go crazy if you don’t touch me.”

“As you wish.”
