Chapter 28

Chapter Twenty-Eight

WADE

After a poorly timed interruption from Jackson, who came into the kitchen searching out food, which was quite effective in breaking up my kiss with Dani, I grabbed her by the hand and all but dragged her to her place.

When I offered to take her to mine, she shook her head as we walked swiftly through the cold night.

The light snow that had fallen the night before crunched under our feet.

“I’ll make you breakfast, and I’m sure I have better options than you do,” she’d replied.

Just now, she was kneeling in front of me, her gaze holding mine as she leaned forward, her pink tongue darting out to swipe a drop of cum rolling out the tip of my cock.

With her eyes still locked with mine, Dani swirled her tongue around the crown, letting out a satisfied hum when I groaned her name.

When she dragged her tongue along the underside of my cock before lightly kissing the tip, the sight the hottest thing I’d ever seen, I laced my fingers in her hair and held on.

“You’re gonna make me lose my mind,” I bit out as she swirled her tongue around the tip again, her eyes holding a teasing glint.

“That’s the point,” she murmured, right before opening her mouth and sucking me in.

Dani was the kind of woman who, once she decided something was going to happen, didn’t hold back.

Just now, she truly set out to drive me mad, past any boundary of control.

With the warm suction of her mouth and her tongue teasing the underside of my cock, my free hand slapped against the door to brace myself.

It was the only thing that kept me from collapsing.

When she took me deep, my cock bumping the back of her throat, I lifted my heavy eyelids.

With her hand curled around the base of my shaft, and her tongue swirling around the tip as she drew back, the tether on my control snapped.

My release hit me abruptly, and she didn’t hesitate, catching it all.

While I struggled to keep my knees from buckling, Dani gave a satisfied hum as she pulled away.

She swiped her tongue at the corner of her mouth to catch a drop of cum glistening there.

Aside from my jeans being unbuttoned, my boxers shoved down, and my T-shirt pushed up, I was fully dressed. Dani straightened, a sly grin curling the corners of her mouth as she assessed me.

“I suppose you could take off your boots now,” she teased.

I managed a husky laugh, loosening my grip in her hair as I pushed away from the door when she stepped back. Whether Dani knew it or not, she had all the power here. There might as well have been an invisible cord between us. She moved, and I followed.

Turning, her eyes caught mine over her shoulder. “Boots off,” she said, pointing at my feet. “And you need to shower.”

“Bossy much?” I chuckled as I turned back. Kicking off my boots as ordered, I hung my jacket up after tucking myself back into my jeans. “So, you think I need a shower, huh? How about you join me?”

Dani put her hands on her hips, surveying me. “Okay.”

And so it was that I pressed Dani against the tiled wall in the shower once I’d washed all the mud off of me. Lifting her knee, I sank home, with her other leg curled around my hips.

“That’s right, baby. Exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

She giggled in between gasps, and it wasn’t long before she was crying out, her channel clenching around me as I followed her over the edge again.

After we had toweled dry and collapsed in her bed, the pillows propped behind us, I rolled my head to the side, catching one of her damp curls and drawing it out before letting it bounce against her shoulder when I released it.

“So, can we just admit this is an official thing?” I asked, entirely serious.

Dani drew her knees to her chest, curling her arms around them and propping her chin on her hands. “Official?”

I gave her a long look. “Yes, Dani girl. Official. I know you’re private—which goes against how nosy you are, by the way—but this isn’t just a fling for me.”

She chewed the inside of her cheek, her gaze inscrutable. “I want to, but …”

“But what?” I pushed. “Something really shitty happened and we never got our chance before. Let’s take it now.”

I held back the words I wanted to say. I was so in love with this woman, so gone for her. I thought I’d been on the way to this back in high school, but things are a little weird when you’re that young and kind of stupid. Then, everything got all tangled up.

“But I don’t want to be everyone’s gossip,” she finally said, catching one of her curls in her hand and spinning it around her finger.

“Hell, I’ve been teased about you the whole time I’ve been here. Jackson told me the other day he knew it was just a matter of time. With us.”

Dani’s cheeks flushed and leaned back into the pillows beside me. “I guess it’s not like it’s not obvious, seeing as Shay and then Jackson caught us in the middle of, um, a moment.”

“Is that what it was? A moment?”

Dani smiled slightly as she considered me. “Maybe it was more than a moment.” All of a sudden, her eyes widened dramatically. “Oh shit,” she breathed.

“What?”

“We forgot to use a condom. In the shower.” Her face had gone white.

“Oh hell.” Pausing, I collected my thoughts before asking, “Didn’t you say you had an IUD? Not that I assumed that meant we wouldn’t use condoms.”

She nodded jerkily. “I am. I’m kind of uptight about it. It’s just …” She shook her head quickly, her face still pale. “Nothing’s one hundred percent.”

I reached over to catch her hand, finding it ice-cold.

“Hey, babe,” I said, rising up to pull her into my lap. With her a curvy bundle resting against me, I could feel the tension running in little tremors through her. “Let’s not panic. Maybe I should go with you to talk to your doctor, so you can find out just how much you need to worry.”

I silently swore. Only Dani could make me forget that.

I was usually on the spot with a condom.

I wasn’t about to suggest that perhaps her reaction didn’t need to be this strong.

I could only imagine how frightening that time had been for her.

I had so many questions and wanted to know more, but now wasn’t the time.

Dani took several deep breaths, finally looking over at me with a little more color in her cheeks. “I’m sure it’s fine.” Her gaze searched mine, questions swirling. “Wade, if we’re going to be official, how important is it to you to have children?”

Just as before, this question felt so weighted. There was more than a current underneath. It was a riptide I couldn’t even see.

I elected to answer cautiously. I didn’t want her to worry, and she seemed really worried. “Babe, it’s not a big deal to me. I wish you would stop fretting.”

Dani took a breath, letting it out in a shuddering sigh. “Okay. I’ll try.”

We sat quietly as she relaxed against me, warm and soft. “For someone who isn’t sure you want us to be official, seems like you’re skipping ahead a few giant steps with the kids conversation,” I murmured.

She lifted her head, her eyes boring into mine. “I guess I’m a little hyper-sensitive about it just because of what happened.”

“I get it. It’s totally fine with me if we jump ahead.

If you told me you wanted to go get married tomorrow, or tonight, for that matter, I wouldn’t hesitate.

” I meant for my words to be a light tease, but when her eyes went comically wide, I added, “Stop looking like that, I was just trying to lighten the moment.”

I took it as a total win that she merely rolled her eyes before tucking her head into the curve of my neck.
