Chapter 28

Chapter Twenty-Eight

“What happens now?” Charlotte asked.

They were in Logan’s office. The door closed. The rest of the world at bay. He sat behind his heavy, wooden desk. Charlotte stood on the other side, her gaze on him.

His fingers tapped against the top of the desk. “Been one hell of a week, hasn’t it?”

Understatement. “Pretty sure you told me once that I wouldn’t make it five days without running from you.”

His fingers stopped tapping. “Do you plan to run from me?”

The mission had ended. The case was closed. But she was still there. Though she did have a bombshell or two that she planned to drop. “I’m getting out of the CIA.”

He seemed to stop breathing.

“I don’t want to be flying all over the world, becoming someone new every few months.

I…” So hard to say. “I was afraid of falling in love. I didn’t want to end up like my mother.

I never wanted that. I didn’t want to love someone so much that I’d be lost without that person.

” And yet…“I love you.” It had just happened.

“And if I lose you, it will gut me.” Truth.

“It will wreck me. I will hurt and I will rage, and I will feel agony pour through me.”

He shot to his feet. The chair flew back behind him. “You aren’t losing me.”

No one lived forever. Life and pain went together. But so did life and love. “I’m not my mother.” Something she’d come to understand. Different people made different choices.

I am not my mother.

He stalked to stand beside her.

She turned so she faced him fully. “I will not make the same choices she did. I will not live and die the way she did.” Her lips pressed together.

After a long moment, she was able to continue, “I was afraid to love, and then I met you, and there was no control. No stopping what I felt. I just—I fell into you. Loving you was as natural as breathing.”

“I fell in love with you first,” he murmured. “Don’t even try to act like you did it before me.”

His words made her heart feel warmer. Her Logan. He could always make her smile. “I want everything with you. I want a home. I want a dog.”

His jaw hardened. “Kids?”

“Yes. Everything. The whole package. I don’t want just danger and a pretend world. I want the real thing. You are my real thing.”

His hands extended. They curled around her waist, and he lifted her up.

He put her down on the hard top of the desk.

“I think I told you before…” His head lowered.

He pressed a kiss to her throat. “But in case I didn’t, let me be clear.

” He moved back. Stared into her eyes. “I will give you anything. Everything. All you have to do is ask.”

He kissed her. Dipped his tongue into her mouth even as Charlotte felt the slide of his hand between her legs.

He touched her through her pants. A strong, sensual touch, but the clothing was so going to have to go.

And, yes, in the next few seconds, her clothing was gone.

She kicked away her shoes. He peeled off her pants and her panties.

His hands hauled her to the edge of the desk where he crouched between her legs and his mouth feasted on her.

Demanding and possessive, and that tongue of his lashed and lashed her as she fell back onto the top of the desk.

Her hands flew out helplessly and shoved away the phone and a keyboard.

Both crashed to the floor.

He kept licking her.

“No…no fair,” she moaned. “I haven’t gotten to taste…you.” Something she wanted very, very badly.

He froze.

Pulled away.

She missed his mouth. Oh, how she missed it, but she was going to grab this opportunity. Charlotte rose. Slid off the desk. Dropped to her knees on the carpet before him.

“No, baby, your stitches—”

“They are fine.” She barely felt them. Her attention was elsewhere.

Oh, yes, very much elsewhere. Licking her lips, she reached up for his belt.

Unhooked it. Unbuttoned his pants. Eased down the zipper.

Pushed the fabric aside. Charlotte hauled the boxers out of her way.

His dick bobbed toward her, and she leaned closer to him.

Her breath blew lightly over his gorgeous cock.

“Charlotte.”

She opened her mouth, and she took him inside. So big. So hard. She only had the head in her mouth, but she sucked it eagerly. Her tongue swirled around the tip, and she pulled him in deeper.

“Yep, bad idea. So bad.” He lifted her up. Carefully. Paying particular attention to her thigh and the stitches. Logan put her on the desk again. Eased her legs apart and lodged his dick at the entrance to her body. “Can’t get you pregnant if I’m coming in your mouth.”

“Logan?”

His hands slapped down on the desk, one on each side of her body. “You said you wanted kids.” Gritted words. “Got to fuck you, bare, to get them.”

Bare.

“You want me, baby? You ready for me? For this?”

Her nails sank into his shoulders “Yes.”

He slammed into her. She cried out his name. He took her hard and deep, and his mouth was on her neck again. Licking. Sucking. Kissing.

One hand moved between their bodies. He stroked her clit even as his hips pistoned against her. As he fucked her on his desk.

No, as he made love to me on his desk.

She came with a shriek. No build-up. Just a pounding, body-quaking orgasm.

He kept thrusting as she rode out that wave of pleasure. Over and over. Then she felt him come inside of her. Her inner muscles clamped even tighter to him.

You ready for me?

Oh, she was. She was more than ready for Logan and the life that they would lead.

Two weeks later…

“I got a tattoo.”

Charlotte raised her brows. They were in Logan’s office again. He’d just shut the door, turned toward her very deliberately, and made that confession.

Her gaze dropped over him as she tried to figure out just where her husband had gotten his ink.

“Want to see it?” he asked.

“Uh, yes.” A thousand times, yes.

He began to slowly unbutton his crisp, white shirt. One button. Two. Three…

She caught the edge of black ink.

Another button. He pulled open the shirt, showing off his fabulous chest. Those strong muscles. And the black spider web. Over his heart.

She blinked.

“It’s Charlotte’s web,” he explained. “Your web. You’ll mark me until I die. Hell, you mark me, inside and out. You own me, every single part of me. I love—”

He didn’t get to finish. She’d launched at him. Charlotte pulled Logan toward her, and she kissed her husband with wild, stark passion.

And with deep, true love.

Mission accomplished.

That night, Logan held Charlotte against him as she slept in their bed. Not that they’d be continuing to live in the hotel suite for much longer. Oh, no, they needed a house. A big one, because Charlotte wanted a lot of kids. A big house, one that included a big yard.

Kids needed room to play.

She snuggled against him. All soft and warm and his.

Mission accomplished.

He’d completed all the steps on his to-do list.

Step one…marry her. Done. But if she wanted a fancy second ceremony, he’d do that. As he’d told her numerous times, he’d give her anything she wanted in this world.

Plus, Simone—his foster sister turned forever family—had given him hell about getting married without inviting her to the ceremony.

Jamar had done the same to Charlotte. If they didn’t have a second ceremony, he and Charlotte would at least throw one big-ass party to celebrate. But, on to other things…

Step two…Fuck her until she screams my name. Oh, but he loved doing that step, over and over and over again. He’d be repeating it, forever.

Step three…Convince her to love me. Because he was one lucky bastard, Charlotte did love him. He was particularly grateful for that miracle.

Step four…Kill the bastard who’d drugged her. So done. As if he would have let that creep keep drawing breath.

So…mission accomplished.

Time to come up with new plans. He did love to be goal oriented.

New agenda item…buy Charlotte the perfect house. They’d make that house into a home.

Find the cutest dog in the world. He just, yeah, he wanted a damn dog. So did she.

Have kids. Spoil them. Love them. Did he panic a little at the thought of kids? Maybe. He didn’t want to screw anything up. He wanted to be a good father. And he would be. He’d take the kids to baseball games. He’d use his mom’s old cinnamon roll recipe and he’d—

“Logan.” Charlotte’s sleepy voice. “I can practically feel the wheels spinning in your head.” A soft yawn. “What’s wrong?”

He had his wife in his arms. “Nothing.” Nothing at all. In fact, this might just be the most right that his world had been in years.

“Then what are you thinking about so hard?”

He smiled at her. Though she couldn’t see the smile in the dark. “Just making plans.”

“Plans for what?”

Plans to be the best husband he could possibly be. Husband, father. I want to be the man she needs. The man our future children will need. “I will not let you down,” he vowed.

“I know that.” Soft words. “Logan, I trust you completely. I love you.”

He would never, ever get tired of those words.

He kissed her and began to make love to his wife.
