Epilogue

“But did I have to die?”

“Yes,” Jezebel was adamant.

“I mean, are you sure? There was no other way? You had to kill me? Like, what? That was the only option?”

Disgruntled now, she glowered at him. “Yes, Sebastian, you needed to die. You’d worked too many cases. Your cover was blown to hell and back. Your boss and I agreed—you dying on the operating table was the only choice.”

He crossed his arms over his chest and glared. “It wasn’t my choice.”

“No, because you were unconscious at the time.” She had to roll her eyes at him.

“I…I would have liked to at least see Harper.”

Yes, she was sure that he would have. “Seeing her would have gone against the whole you dying aspect of the situation.”

“But…she’s okay? She’s safe?”

Safe-ish. “Harper has recovered well from her injuries.” A true enough statement.

A muscle flexed along his jaw. “Tell me this…did she at least cry over me?”

Exhaling heavily, Jezebel turned on her heel and began to march away.

“Is that a yes?” Sebastian shouted after her. “Or a no?”
