Chapter 9

Lexi

Jesus, the things I want to do with this man in this kitchen would get me locked up.

I was trying so hard to act natural and not let every little thing he did bother me. But, damn, I was completely thrown off by him. It also wasn’t fair that he looked so good in the candlelight. And he was gazing at me with those crazy silver eyes, like he could hear everything I was thinking.

I turned away from him and walked over to the cupboards, where I kept the plates and glasses. Determined to get the pizza eaten before it got cold, and then I could end the awkward, sexually tense night by showing him to the guest room and locking myself away in my room until morning.

Hopefully, someone would remove the tree by then, and the sexy pizza guy would be gone from my life forever.

I reached up and opened the cupboard and grabbed a couple of plates. Unfortunately, I caught the rim of a wineglass stem, and within seconds, it dropped from the shelf.

Crash!

I flinched and looked down. It had hit the countertop and shattered into pieces on the counter and all over the floor next to my feet.

Goddammit. There goes my perfect matching set.

I groaned as I turned and placed the plates on the island next to the pizza box. I peered over at Kain. He remained frozen in place, and when I glanced down, I could see why. Some of the glass was resting right next to his feet.

“I am so sorry. Are you all right?” I asked, genuinely concerned that maybe he had already stepped on a piece.

“I’m fine. You good?” He tilted his head to look at me.

“Yeah, just annoyed to lose a good glass. Don’t move. I’ll grab a broom and get all this cleaned up real quick.”

Turning on my heel, I walked over to the broom closet and grabbed a dustpan and brush. I came back out and got to work on the floor first.

“Hey, can you shine the flashlight down here? I want to make sure I get it all before you walk around.”

Kain picked up the flashlight from the counter and aimed it down at the floor. I double-checked it all and grabbed the bigger chunk next to his foot. Then, my finger slipped as I went to drop it into the dustpan, and I flinched.

“Son of a—” I quickly put pressure on the finger I had just sliced open. I stood up, reaching out to take the flashlight from him.

But instead of handing me the flashlight, he placed it on the counter. He reached out with his large hands and took my hand in his, gently peeling my other finger off the cut to look at it.

“Mmm, let me take care of that for you,” he muttered under his breath.

“Oh, no, I can take care of it. I’ve got some bandages in—”

Before I could finish, he wrapped his lips around my finger. His tongue lapped lazily along the cut as he softly sucked.

“Ohhh.”

His eyes snapped to my face as I slapped my hand over my mouth.

Jesus, Lexi, did you just fucking MOAN?! Way to go. Now, not only does he think you’re a clumsy bitch, but that you’re into vampires too! Which you kinda are, but that is besides the point!

“I am so sorry!” I babbled out.

As his mouth continued to hold on to my finger, my mind raced, and the friction from rubbing my thighs slowly together became an even more addictive feeling. He was making it almost impossible for me not to moan again, and I was getting way too excited about how much he seemed to enjoy my finger in his mouth.

He smirked and dragged his lips off my finger, his tongue wrapping around it one more time. Then, his gaze went down to my cut, and he nodded, satisfied that he had cleaned the blood up.

“There. All better, baby girl. Be careful. You shouldn’t hurt these soft hands. And never apologize for moaning because of me again.”

What the heck do I even say to that?!

I glanced down at my cut, thinking I was still going to need a bandage. But sure enough, the cut wasn’t as bad as I had originally thought, and it wasn’t even bleeding anymore. The wound had likely partially resealed from that show he’d just given me, and it should be fine if I didn’t touch it.

He shifted in front of me, and I looked up at him.

When did he get so close?

He extended his hand out and brushed the hair from my face again; this time, his hand wandered down my jawline to under my chin, his thumb stroking across my lower lip.

Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

It was suddenly very hard to breathe, especially with his hand on me.

Why is he just staring at me?

He was just inches from my face as he spoke, and his eyes and lips mesmerized me, especially with the whole damn makeup look. “Lexi, are you going to kiss me? Or am I gonna take what I want?”

I stiffened. My breathing became quick and shallow.

Fuck, his lips looked so kissable, didn’t they? What was the harm, really? If he was asking, he obviously felt the vibe I’d been feeling too. Maybe tonight wouldn’t be so bad after all.

So, I leaned up and kissed him.
