Chapter 20
Three Months Later
Nash and I sat patiently with our hands clasped together, waiting for the results.
I took two at-home pregnancy tests, and both of them came back positive.
I rushed to call the doctor’s office to schedule an appointment to find out if I truly was pregnant or not.
Truth be told, I wanted to be pregnant. It had been a long time coming, and I knew I’d make an amazing mother.
One thing I wouldn’t do is let my child be an only child like me.
Nash leaned over and whispered to me. “Well, damn. How long does this usually take?”
I chuckled with a shrug. “I’m not sure. This is my first time doing this, you know?”
He looked at me and smiled. “Yeah. I know that. It just feels like we’ve been waiting forever.”
As soon as we said that, Nurse Renee came in with a smile on her face. “Sorry it took too long. Are you guys ready for the results?”
“Yes,” we stated at the same time.
“The test came back positive. Y’all are about to be parents! Congratulations.”
The only thing I could do was cover my face and give in to the tears that came forth. Nash wrapped his arm around my shoulders and held me close. I got what I wanted, and I couldn’t have been as happy as I was now. I was about to be a mother. Nothing was more exciting than that right now.
Nash laid kisses on my forehead and cheeks. I welcomed all of them too.
“You made me a father, man.” I heard the emotion in his voice. “Thank you.”
I smiled through my tears. “There are no thanks needed. I should be the one thanking you.”
I had to pull myself together so we could leave out of here. Since I took the day off, I didn’t know what I’d be doing for the rest of the day. For right now, I needed a nap.
After I got myself together, Nash and I went up front to get my next appointment. I had never felt as joyful in my life as I did this second. I got a fiancé and a baby. Life couldn’t get any better than that.
Once we were back in the car, I let out a deep breath I didn’t know I had been carrying. I was content. I’d let go of everything that wasn’t healthy for me, and that was a plus. My broken heart was healed, and I was free.
“Nashton?” I called his name to get his attention.
He looked over at me. “Wassup, baby?”
“Thanks so much for all you’ve done for me. We’re having a baby! Can you believe it?”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “I can believe it since I’ve been tearing that thang up.”
I swatted his arm playfully. “Oh, please.”
He laughed. “But nah. On the real, this has made my day. If you thought I catered to you before, you haven’t seen anything yet. Be prepared to be sick of me.”
I laughed. “I doubt that can ever happen. Everything you do, I love it down. Your love has freed me from the pain and replaced it with so much happiness. Man, I want to shout it to the world.”
He smiled and grasped my hand in his. “Go ahead and do it. I’ll be shouting with you.”
I reached for the door handle, but Nash pulled me back.
“Wait. You meant now?”
I threw my head back and laughed. “Hell yeah. Why not?”
He shrugged. “Fuck it! Let’s do it, but I’ll open your door for you.”
I threw my hands up, not trying to get into an argument with him about touching the door handle.
“Are you ready?” he asked the minute he got me out of the car.
I nodded. No matter how foolish this might look, I didn’t care. I needed to shout this out.
“I am free! I’m in love! I’m happy!” I shouted at the top of my lungs.
Nash looked at me with a big smile on his face. “My turn. I’m so in love with my fiancée! She’s having my baby and made me the happiest man in the world! Woo hoo!”
Nash picked me up and spun me around, causing me to giggle. We sealed it with a kiss, still holding on to each other. There was no other place I would rather be than with him locked in his arms like this.
