Chapter 1
Jack
This is nearing the end of my second year of marriage with Anya. Altogether, we have been together for three years now if you count the courtship.
Even in my creative writing seminars and lectures, she has purposely been a pain in the ass when she attended. Even though she is a well-known renegade and disruptive force in the school, I think that she goes out of her way to pull my chain when she attends any of my seminars.
Once she blurted out in the seminar “Is it true that Shakespear was obsessed with incest?” Another time she questioned if Ben Franklin was secretly gay.
I pointed it out to her that he reportedly had 13 children out of wedlock. Although there is no proof of that. “Exactly my point,” she retorted making the class chuckle. Kat had a smug grin on her face when I got back home that Friday afternoon.
I work from home most days as a writer except for the last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of every month when I do those creative writing lectures and seminars.
Now that Kat has graduated from college, she is under foot most days since she hasn’t figured out yet what she wants to be when she grows up.
You never know what color her hair is going to be. It all has to do with how she’s feeling. For the past six weeks, her hair has been pink like cotton candy. Before that it was a light shade of ice blue for the better part of four months.
Lately, she has been coming into my writing room to ask me a million questions about what it’s like to be a writer. What It’s like to be a successful author that has people show up at my book signing tours to get my autograph on their books.
