Mr Darcy, a gentleman scientist skilled in glasshouse horticulture, has spent two years answering letters from a less experienced and plainly less wealthy grower.

Travel finally brings him near his correspondent’s estate, and he calls at Longbourn to meet E.

R. Bennet and see the glasshouse himself.
