Epilogue

SAVANNA

Six months later…

The knock on the door, while expected, makes me jump.

“He’s here,” I shriek at Peter, who is looking a lot perkier since I bought a bookcase and moved him to the highest shelf, away from Panda’s claws. Right next to a peace lily, which was the engagement present Cassie sent us. Once I told her we were engaged, she begrudgingly forgave Logan.

They loved her so much in Prague that they invited her back for an Eastern European tour.

I haven’t heard from her in four days, and my last call went straight to voicemail.

Cassie has never gone four days without calling.

My stomach niggles with anxiety, and once I give Logan the welcome home he deserves, I’ll try her again, but right now all I can think about is the man on the other side of my front door.

I check my hair in the mirror. It’s down the way he likes it, and I have no shame in dressing to please my man today, which is why I’m naked under my bathrobe. If he’s coming home to me, then I’ll give him something to come home to.

I refused to meet Logan at the base. It’s his first deployment back as an operator, and there was a small part of me that wondered if the thrill of a mission would make him change his mind.

But when I open the door and find him there, my heart skips a beat, all restraint leaves me, and I fly into his arms.

Logan catches me and lifts me off the ground, and I wrap my legs around him.

“Hey, Peaches.”

Panda has followed me out and he mewls excitedly, wrapping himself around Logan’s legs. I wonder if he’ll be as excited when he realizes he’s back to the foot of the bed tonight.

“You came back.”

“Of course I came back. I’ll always come back to you.”

Logan carries me inside, and I slide down his body until my bare feet touch the floor. My robe has fallen open, and his eyes widen.

“Oh damn, Peaches. You look fucking amazing.”

His hands cup my cheeks, and his smile is as wide as mine.

“Are you okay? How did the shoulder hold up?” I run my hands over his shoulders.

He chuckles. “Always the professional. The shoulder is fine, and it will be even more fine on my next mission.”

My stomach drops. “Have you been recalled again? So soon?”

He shakes his head. “No, no, I have three weeks at home.”

His hand slides under my robe, and his touch on my bare skin makes me shiver in anticipation.

“Before I left, I spoke with my commander, and he confirmed it—the desk role is mine for good.”

“Is that what you want? What does it even mean?”

His hands slide over my hips and around to the small of my back.

“It means I’ll be based at Fort Bragg for the remainder of my eighteen months of service.

It will be in an advisory role, rather than executing missions.

I’ll have every weekend off. And in eighteen months, when I leave with my military pension, I’ll continue as a consultant, working from home and only coming in when needed. ”

As he speaks, his hands slide around my waist, drawing me toward him.

My body presses against him, but it’s his words that light me up more than anything.

We talked about an arrangement like this, and Logan has made it happen.

He’s found a way for me to keep the job I love and for him to keep his. And that is sexy as hell.

“So anytime you want to start on that family, Peaches . . .”

He kisses my neck, and his other hand slides over my belly. I sigh contentedly into his mouth. It took many years of waiting, but finally we found a way for our lives to work together.

“Why don’t we start right now?”

I let one side of the robe fall off my shoulder, and Logan takes in a sharp breath as my breast is exposed.

“Sounds good to me.”

He lifts me off the ground, and I wrap my legs around his waist as he carries me into the bedroom.
