Chapter 794 Through the Celestial Maiden Galaxy
Kael went still.
The human population of Northguard City far exceeded that of Sunlance Academy.
After taking in every human from Sunlance Academy, his Inner Cosmos no longer had room for anyone else.
More importantly, humanity was scattered throughout the entire Northguard Galaxy. Humans didn’t live only in Northguard City. They had also settled on planets controlled by other cultivation civilizations.
Even if Kael somehow evacuated the humans from Northguard City, what would happen to those living on other planets?
“Lord Voss, could you give me some time? There is another matter of even greater importance that I must deal with first.”
Kael sighed and softened his tone.
“Of course I can give you time, but you had better hurry. Until you return, I will continue killing three thousand human cultivators every day.”
Faron’s voice remained cold.
“Faron, don’t take this too far. I’m the one who opposed Northguard City. What do you gain by slaughtering innocent low-level humans?”
Anger strained Kael’s voice.
“So you truly do care about humanity. That proves my strategy is working. You had better return to Northguard City soon.”
Faron severed the connection before Kael could respond.
Kael put away the Astral Compass and immediately flew toward the nearest Shadow Race planet equipped with a teleportation array.
“Who goes there?”
More than a dozen Shadow Race cultivators guarding the array moved to block his path.
Kael was already on the verge of losing control of his anger. A flame flickered within his right eye, and the Myriad Spirit Light swept across the guards below.
Several brief screams rang out.
Every cultivator guarding the array was reduced to ash.
Kael landed at its center. White light surrounded him, and a moment later, he appeared at the border between the Northguard and Celestial Maiden Galaxies.
Several Shadow Race cultivators guarded this array as well.
They opened their mouths to challenge him, only to sense the barely restrained fury radiating from his body. Every one of them immediately turned away, too terrified to interfere.
Kael ignored them and flew toward the Celestial Maiden Galaxy.
Several months later, he crossed into its territory.
Soon after entering, he discovered two Planetary Realm cultivators locked in battle.
The moment they sensed Kael’s formidable cultivation, both hurriedly withdrew their artifacts and hovered obediently in the void, hardly daring to breathe.
Each assumed Kael was a reinforcement summoned by the other.
Instead, Kael flew directly over their heads without sparing either of them a glance.
The two men stared after him in confusion before releasing long breaths of relief.
A moment later, they brought out their artifacts and resumed fighting even more fiercely than before.
Kael soon reached a planet within the Celestial Maiden Galaxy that possessed a stellar teleportation array.
Strangely, no cultivators were stationed nearby to guard it.
After a moment’s thought, Kael understood why.
The Mistress of Celestial Maiden Palace had already been devoured by the Broodmother. With the galaxy left without a clear ruler, it was hardly surprising that order had begun to collapse.
Unfortunately, Kael had no idea how to access the Celestial Maiden Galaxy’s teleportation network.
With no other way to activate the array, he spread his Spiritual Sense across the entire planet. His search eventually led him to a vast primeval forest.
The forest was considered forbidden ground. Even powerful cultivators feared entering it.
Anyone who crossed its borders would become trapped inside an illusion array. After wandering in confusion for some time, they would eventually be thrown back out.
With the strength of Kael’s Spiritual Sense and the power of his Myriad Spirit Eye, however, he saw through the entire illusion array with ease.
A woman in elegant ceremonial robes sat at its center.
Sensing his gaze, she slowly opened her eyes and peered through the formation toward Kael.
An uncomfortable feeling crept over her.
It was almost as though he could see straight through the illusion array and look directly at her true body.
“My lady, would you come out and speak with me?”
Kael’s voice carried into the formation.
He didn’t know how the cultivators of the Celestial Maiden Galaxy treated humans, so he refrained from dragging her out by force.
Kael understood that most cultivators in the great galaxies treated humanity cruelly. Even so, part of him still hoped to encounter a powerful race willing to show humans some kindness.
The higher he climbed, the more desperately he wanted humanity to find powerful allies. Otherwise, his people would remain isolated and defenseless.
The woman inside the illusion array remained silent.
She refused to believe Kael could see through the formation she was most proud of. The Celestial Maiden Galaxy was renowned for its mastery of arrays.
“My lady, don’t force me to come in after you.”
Kael sighed.
At this point, he truly had no desire to make yet another enemy.
The woman smiled contemptuously.
He was merely bluffing. She wanted to see whether he could actually enter.
A piercing alarm suddenly erupted from the illusion array.
Startled, the woman spun toward the array compass beside her.
Crack!
The compass shattered into pieces.
The surrounding air vibrated.
A figure appeared in front of her as though he had teleported, stopping less than four inches from her face.
“What?”
The woman swung a hand at him, but Kael caught her wrist.
“My lady, I am Kael of the human race. I mean you no harm. I only wish to use your people’s teleportation array.”
“You...”
The woman activated more than a dozen divine abilities in rapid succession, yet none could free her wrist from Kael’s grasp.
She immediately kicked at him.
Her long skirt flared outward, revealing a slender leg.
Kael opened his left hand and caught her by the ankle.
“As I said, I mean you no harm. I only want to use the teleportation array.”
“I... Let go of me first.”
Kael released her wrist and ankle simultaneously.
The woman staggered backward more than a dozen steps, heat rushing to her face.
“Follow me.”
She rose into the air.
Kael immediately flew after her.
Before long, they reached the planet’s only stellar teleportation array.
“Step inside. I’ll send you on your way.”
“My lady, as a precaution, I would prefer that you stand at the center of the array with me. Otherwise, I have no assurance that you won’t send me somewhere unknown.”
Kael sighed.
She hadn’t even asked where he wanted to go before offering to activate the array. Her intentions were clearly far from innocent.
“I...”
The woman hesitated.
“Please enter the array. I only wish to travel to the border between the Celestial Maiden Galaxy and Machine Race territory. I have no intention of remaining here any longer than necessary.”
“Are you certain you didn’t come here to cause trouble in the Celestial Maiden Galaxy?”
The woman was the eldest granddaughter of the former Mistress of Celestial Maiden Palace.
After her grandmother’s death, she had sealed herself inside the illusion array to avoid being purged by the other Vice Mistresses.
Power struggles among the beast races were merciless.
Whenever an old ruler died, rival factions would eliminate her loyalists and descendants before they could become future threats.
“I’m human,” Kael replied. “Do you honestly believe humanity has the standing to seize power in the Celestial Maiden Galaxy?”
“All right.”
The woman stepped into the center of the teleportation array and stood beside him.
The formation began rotating wildly.
White light erupted around them, and both disappeared.
The border between the Celestial Maiden Galaxy and Machine Race territory was a vast, barren expanse.
For a full light-year in every direction, there were no planets or asteroids. Even wandering Starbeasts avoided such a desolate region.
The spiritual energy scattered throughout space originated from the countless planets across the universe. The universe itself produced no energy.
Unless, of course, one possessed a Dark Spirit Root and could absorb energy directly from dark matter.
