Chapter 18-Her period came
Jonathan's POV…
“Hey Johnny, I've missed you" she spread her arms to embrace me but I avoided it.
“What are you doing here?" I asked coldly. “How did you find your way here?"
"Mom sent me here. She said your fiancée wasn't ideal and that you needed someone that will take good care of you”
I should have known. Mom would never leave just like that without having a suspicious plan.
"You look tired like you have been up all night and what's that stain on your leg?"
I looked down at my leg and saw the milk stain on it.
“Wait…” she covered her mouth with her hands.
"Don't tell me that's what I think it is” she gasped and looked at my leg again. I frowned at her reaction.
"Why did you do that? You spent the night with her?” She pointed accusingly at me.
“That explains why you look tired and your hair is disheveled showing that you must have had a wild night together"
I sighed and wanted to shut the door.
“How could you do that?" She questioned again, still staring at my leg.
“I don't owe you an explanation" I said flatly.
“So, it's true. You really did sleep with her," she scoffed. “So she's that cheap. In less than a month of announcing your engagement, she's opened her legs for you already. She's so pathetic"
“Don't ever say that about her again. She's clearly everything you're not and will never be. Now I don't know why mom sent you here, but it failed. Just go back to her" I snapped.
“Jonathan, can't you see the writing on the wall? Can't you see she's trying to do the same thing her mother did to her father? She's playing the same games her mother played"
I paused and looked at her. This same topic, her father. What did her mother do and how did Maya get to know about it?
I was tempted to ask, but I didn't. If I was going to find out anything about what happened, I wouldn't hear it from anyone else. I would hear it directly from Audrey.
“You have no claims or right to utter such. Now leave before I do something we both will regret” I threatened.
"Just hear me out. You wouldn't see her the same way after hearing this…”
She was still talking when I took a step back and shut the door in her face.
Why was this topic about Audrey's dad and why he hurt her so important to me?
I sighed. I needed to know what happened. I heard Maya's car drive off.
‘Good riddance’ I muttered.
I went back to the milk I was heating just to discover the glass had cracked.
Maya!!!
The three days passed by smoothly, with the doctor coming in to check on her health and Lena, true to her words, helped with bathing and changing her.
"How is she doctor?” Lena asked that evening.
"Everything is normal. Her pulse is okay. If everything goes smoothly tonight, she'll be awake by morning. The effect of the tea has started wearing off”
“Thanks a lot doctor" I said. "I'm grateful”
I didn't miss the shocked and surprised look on the doctor's face.
I caught myself. Of course. I wasn't used to being grateful. What changed?
“I'll be staying tonight,” Lena said. "I need to see her first thing when she wakes up. I need to be here to make sure that this last night goes smoothly”
I nodded. "Okay”
"Thank you anyway,” she added.
I looked at her.
“Thank you for taking care of her and making sure she fed properly"
I was taken aback. “You're welcome. It was the least I could do. I'm partly to be blamed so… I guess that's it”
"You look sleep deprived. Don't worry about her" She held Audrey's hands. “I'll be here to look after her. You can go get a proper sleep. If anything comes up, I'll inform you"
"Sure” I turned around to go but remembered something. "How'd it go with the Italian brand and her shoots?”
"Don't act like you care" she shook her head. “But since you asked, it went well. She's of great value so they're willing to wait and delay everything for a few days"
Did I care? If I did, why?
I contemplated telling her about the nightmare she had. Well, it's better to be out with it.
“She had a nightmare on the first night… about her father"
I saw how her eyes grew.
“What?"
“You heard me?"
“I know. I mean, was it bad? Did she hurt herself?" She asked as she looked tenderly at Audrey.
Her reaction made one thing clear. That night wasn't the first time such a thing was happening and she knew about it. So, she usually hurts herself whenever it happens.
"She didn't. I was here, so I kind of held her and prevented any injury”
She heaved. "Okay”
I didn't bother asking about her father because I knew she wouldn't say a word.
I left the room and headed to my room. As soon as I opened the door of my room, I felt fresh air run through my spine.
It felt so good to be here. The commotion of everything that happened these past few days nearly traumatized me.
I slumped in my bed and felt my bones come in place and my muscles relax.
I stretched and turned in bed, letting the softness of the bed calm my tensed nerves. I didn't know how long I did, but when I got a message from Richard, informing me that all went well with the investors, I was glad and stood up to shower.
I looked at myself in the mirror. My face looked dull and I had dark circles on my face.
“Tonight, I'm going to have a very good sleep and nothing is going to prevent that”
I went into the bathroom and undressed. I let the hot water pour down on me with my hands on my waist.
I had just started scrubbing my body when I had a bang at my door.
What could it be now?
“Jonathan?" I heard Lena call.
"What is it?” I screamed from the bathroom. I tried opening my eyes but the soap had entered my eyes.
"There's a problem,” she shouted.
"Great,” I muttered with gritted teeth. "There goes my perfect night sleep into the thin air"
“What problem could be so difficult that you can't handle it?" I asked.
All this was so frustrating. Just when I thought I was going to have peace, another problem arose and coupled with this soap that entered my eyes made everything was. I felt like screaming.
"Open the door first,” she shouted.
"I'm in the shower” I retorted.
I heard her cussing, before saying something, but I didn't hear her.
"What?” I screamed.
"I said her period her came” she yelled, her voice breaking in exasperation.
