Chapter 11

CHAPTER ELEVEN

KAIRI MOORE

THREE DAYS LATER

Ihad been going to Havoc’s condo for the past three days, just like he asked me to, and I would admit that he was interesting.

Just like I picked up about him at the bar that night, he liked to keep a low profile.

He explained that he had an older brother known as Hell, but I’d never heard of him.

I did wonder where they were getting these damn names from though!

Everything about him as a person was reason enough for me to keep my distance, but I couldn’t.

He felt like a new food I discovered that I just couldn’t get enough of.

The second day I went there, we just spent hours talking in the kitchen while I cooked and cleaned up.

He was surprised to know that I really could cook a little something.

I wasn’t no chef, but I knew enough, and he seemed to enjoy the food.

He asked me questions about my father and how he even got mixed up in The Society.

Unlike me, he was born into it and had no choice.

We didn’t really speak about his family, to be honest, and I didn’t try to pry.

I couldn’t imagine what it was like being the son of one of the heads.

Still, he didn’t act like them at all, and I guess that counted for something.

Today was the last day of me going to see him until next week. He explained that he had to work with his brother, so I would go back to his condo once a week. I wasn’t sure if he would be there then or not, and I wasn’t going to ask.

I stepped off the elevator, and like the last few days, Havoc was standing at the door waiting for me. As soon as I entered the code into the elevator, it would send him a notification, so he knew when I was on my way up.

“What you cheffing today?” he asked, stepping aside for me to enter.

“Chicken Alfredo,” I answered as I kicked off my Crocs. He followed me into the kitchen, and I put the grocery bags down.

“I bought more fruit today, which should last until I’m back next week,” I said. I stood there looking at him, fighting the urge to ask him if he would be there, but chose not to. The less I knew, the better.

“Thanks.”

I put everything away and then made my way to the bathroom to start cleaning.

Just like always, it was already spotless, and I had to shake my head with a chuckle.

I never understood why he continued to pay me to clean when it clearly didn’t need it, but I wasn’t going to stop him if he wanted to give me money for it.

I heard him come into the bathroom, and I stopped mopping to look over at him.

“You need something?” I asked.

“You ever fucked with one of the sons in this shit?” he suddenly asked.

“No. Never.”

My father made it very clear to me from the beginning. I was never to involve myself with any son affiliated with The Society, and I never had. Sony was the only son that I had any type of interaction with, and I didn’t sleep with him.

“I only ever dated guys outside of this thing,” I let him know before I went back to mopping. “Why?”

Havoc looked at me and shrugged. “Just felt like asking.” He then left the room, and I finished what I was doing before I went back to the kitchen to start cooking. As I passed his office, I could hear him talking to someone on the phone.

The only thing that didn’t make sense to me was the fact that I’d been coming here for days now and not once had I seen Ocean. It just didn’t make sense how they were together, but she was never around. When I had a boyfriend a year ago, we were always in each other’s houses.

I just had to walk away from that relationship because he became paranoid and obsessive, and I didn’t have time for his childish tantrums. I needed someone who was levelheaded, honest, and who felt safe. Until I found someone like that, I was staying single.

I wanted to ask Havoc about why she wasn’t around but didn’t want to run the risk of him asking me questions about her that I couldn’t answer. Plus, it wasn’t my business.

We would spend time talking, but that didn’t mean I could tell him about Sony and the reason why Ocean acted like that toward me at the club. That was something he didn’t need to know.

My phone suddenly rang, and I smiled seeing it was Sparkle.

“Hey boo,” I answered.

“Hey baby daddy,” she called me like she usually did, and I laughed. This girl didn’t have any damn kids but stayed calling me her baby daddy.

“You’re a mess,” I let her know.

“What you up to?”

“Just about to cook at that housekeeper job I have,” I said, pulling the chicken from the refrigerator.

“Oh yeah. Well, I was just calling to let you know that I’ll be over at the club tonight.”

Her saying that reminded me that I hadn’t seen Ocean for the past few days, which was unexpected, but it would be nice to have Sparkle’s company while I worked.

“That’s great—”

“Kairi, you ain’t gotta bother cook. My brother on his way, we need to deal with something urgently,” Havoc cut me off and said as he stepped into the kitchen.

“Oh, okay,” I said.

“Bitch, who the fuck is that?” Sparkle asked in my ear, but I ignored her.

I quickly put everything back and grabbed my stuff so that I could leave before his brother arrived.

“Hoe, I know you hear me!” Sparkle snapped. I looked back at Havoc, wondering if he heard her loud ass mouth from my phone. He was too busy looking at his own as he walked me to the door.

“Girl, would you be quiet for one minute,” I whispered, and she sucked her teeth.

I slipped my feet into my Crocs and threw my jacket on before I turned to look at him.

“I will be back next week,” I said. Havoc looked away from his phone and stared at me.

The way his eyes took me in made butterflies swarm in my stomach. He had been a little flirty these past few days, and I’d almost given in—it was hard not to. Everyone has a type that just matches them for more reasons than one, and Havoc had a lot of things that my ex didn’t.

“See you next week,” he said, eyes still locked on my face. I cleared my throat, bounced my head, and stepped out of his condo, closing the door behind me.

“Kairi, you better start explaining right now before I pull up on you. I can see your location, girl, you know I will do it,” Sparkle threatened just as the elevator doors opened. I stepped on and shook my head at her.

I had plans on telling her when I saw her tonight but knew she wasn’t going to get off my phone until I did.

“Okay, don’t freak out, but that was Havoc.”

Silence, and then she spoke.

“Havoc? As in Orlando’s fine ass son who was at the club last week?”

I nodded. “Yeah, that Havoc.”

“And why the fuck are you somewhere alone with that nigga? What the hell did I miss?”

“Well, you know that housekeeper job I have too—”

“Bitch, don’t tell me it’s his house?!”

When I didn’t answer, I knew I still gave it to her.

Sparkle suddenly screamed, making me almost drop my damn phone.

“BITCHHHHHHHHHH! If that isn’t the divine intervention of the pussy fairy, I don’t know what is!” she squealed.

I fell out laughing because she was stupid sometimes.

The elevator stopped in the parking lot, and I stepped out.

“What is the pussy fairy?” I asked even though I knew I was going to regret it.

“Girl, you know there’s a pussy fairy watching over all our pussies. She tells us when to fuck and when not to. Now, in your case, she has led you right to the dick. It’s obvious what she wants you to do.”

I unlocked my dad’s Jeep, climbed in, dropped my bag on the passenger side, and closed the door behind me.

“Sparkle, what are you talking about?” She had me confused.

“It’s fate, Kairi. You saw that man in the club only last week, and you’ve been his housekeeper this whole time!”

“Okay, so?” I asked about starting the truck and backing out of my parking spot.

“So?” Sparkle gasped dramatically. “Kairi, you have access to this man now. This is your perfect opportunity,” she explained.

“No, Sparkle. I already told you I’m not going to do that. Plus, you know my dad told me not to get involved with anyone mixed up in that shit.”

My dad would murder me if he found out I slept with Havoc. There was just no way I was going to do that.

“Okay, Kairi, first of all, ain’t nobody telling you to be with that nigga. I’m just saying to take his dick, one time, just to fuck with Ocean. That’s it.” She said it like it was that simple.

“Sparkle, there’s too much at stake here. Plus, did you miss the part that I work for him! There’s no way I could do something like that.”

She may have had a million and one reasons why I should do this, but I had just as many reasons why I shouldn’t.

Firstly, revenge was never my thing, and secondly, I wasn’t trying to get caught up with someone like Havoc.

It was bad enough that I worked in his condo and spent the last three days talking to him.

I wasn’t going beyond that. My dad knew I had this job, but he didn’t know whose house it was, and if he ever knew it was Havoc, he would shut that shit down.

So, I was already doing too much as is. I didn’t need to throw sex in the middle of that.

Not just any sex, but dirty ass forbidden sex! No, I was good, thanks.

“What about Ocean?” Sparkle sassed. I hunched my shoulders.

“I don’t need to stoop to her levels; besides, maybe she’s gotten bored with messing with me because I haven’t seen her in a few days.”

Maybe, just maybe, Ocean had moved on to bothering someone else.

She stayed away from me, and I will stay away from her. Simple as that.

“Okay, Kairi. If you’re sure, but couldn’t be me. Best believe I would be rubbing my pussy all in her nigga’s mouth if that was me!”

I coughed, laughing, and shook my head because I knew she would do that too. Sparkle just didn’t give a damn what anyone said or thought about her. She was gonna do her all day.

“I know you would, but honestly, I’m sure.”

It was best to keep things this way.

Evening came quickly, and now I was at work, busy on my feet.

Unintentionally, I found myself looking around for Havoc.

He never said he was coming to the club tonight, but I still found myself looking for him.

He hadn’t been for the past few days, due to his cold, but today he was looking and sounding much better, so I thought he would come.

The booth he sat at previously was empty, and a few hours in, I realized that he wasn’t going to come because he would have been here by now. It was a few hours before closing, and usually, he would be leaving this time—not arriving.

I’d found out from Felicity that he always came to the club, sat in that seat, and would be gone hours before everyone else left.

That was his routine, so seeing it was now almost midnight and how he’d usually be gone by then, I knew he wasn’t coming.

It had me wishing that I’d asked him if he would be at the condo next week when I went there.

“Come on, Kairi, get a grip,” I said when I realized I was thinking about him too much.

Maybe it was best if we didn’t see each other next week or any other time after that.

I started to clean the bar to busy my thoughts. I looked up when I saw a shadow approach. It was Ocean. She kept her eyes on me as she slowly walked past with her friends.

I stood still watching them leave, then I released the breath I didn’t even know I was holding and continued to clean the bar.

“Kairi, can you bring these drinks to section four, please? I really need to use the restroom,” Felicity said, putting the tray down on the bar. Sparkle and I looked at each other before I smiled at her.

“Yeah, no problem.”

Felicity thanked me and rushed into the back. I told Sparkle that I would be okay and lifted the tray to bring upstairs.

I entered the section, and my eyes landed on Ocean, but she cut her eyes at me and looked away.

As I stepped further inside, I could hear people murmuring—whispering as if I was the topic. Some gave me looks, while others just watched me with smiles on their faces as if they knew something that I didn’t.

Taking a deep breath, I continued toward the table where I was going to put these drinks on.

But before I could put the tray down, someone suddenly stuck their foot out, making me trip and crash to the floor.

All the drinks spilled over my head, and the glasses smashed on the ground.

The section fell deathly silent. I could feel the cold, sticky liquor seep through my clothes, and then there was laughter.

So loud, it rattled my ears. I felt the flush of embarrassment rush over my cheeks and burn my skin.

“Watch where you’re going, bitch!” Ocean hollered and fell out laughing. I cupped my elbow that hit the ground pretty hard and looked at her. She had a triumphant smile on her face.

Other people around stopped what they were doing to stare down at me, looking pitiful on the ground.

Ocean got up out of her seat and crouched down beside me.

“The floor is where you belong, Kairi, and I’m going to spend every day of your life reminding you of that. Know your place, bitch,” she snarled before smiling and going back to her seat.

I stood to my feet, picked up the tray, and walked out of the section while they continued to laugh at me. When I made it to the bottom step, Felicity was on her way up.

“What happened?” she asked, eyes bouncing all over me. I knew I looked a hot ass mess with my hair soaking wet. My mascara was probably slithering down my face at this point.

I didn’t even have the words to explain what the hell just happened.

“Don’t worry, I will get someone to clean up. Go take a minute in the break room.”

For whatever reason, this girl was so nice to me, and I felt like she was always cleaning up my mess.

Thanking her, I walked away. Sparkle jumped up to her feet when she took one look at me, and I shook my head because I could see it in her eyes that she wanted to go confront Ocean.

She rolled her eyes at me and took back her seat. I went to my locker and grabbed another t-shirt and my backpack.

Going into the restroom, my mouth fell when I caught a glimpse of myself. Just like I thought, my mascara had run down to my chin. I looked a hot ass mess.

The shame hit me. As I stared at my reflection, my hands shook because I was angry but also afraid. Afraid because I wanted to react, but all I could see in the end was my father and brother paying for my retaliation.

I allowed Ocean to treat me that way because of her father, who was very close to Viper. I’d seen firsthand how Ocean used her father to get what she wanted. If I confronted her like I wanted to, I knew just one phone call would devastate my family.

Grabbing a washcloth from my backpack, I used it to wash off my makeup, and then I wet my hair to get the liquor out.

As I stared back at myself, I made my decision. If she could embarrass me, then I could return the favor without her even knowing!
