Chapter 14

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

SHAKUR MOORE

Ihated waiting around. It did nothing more than fuel my anger. I’d been good. I’d been patient enough, but it wasn’t going to last long.

I wanted answers, and I thought by now I would have gotten them, but I hadn’t.

My father was sticking to his bullshit ass story about it being a bunch of young niggas that broke in before I came back.

Yet, nothing was taken. All they’d managed to do was scare my family enough not to tell me. They’d stolen their sense of security.

And it was time I knew the truth.

I sat in my room, smoking on a blunt, waiting for either my pops or sister to come home. Me being nice ended today. They were gonna tell me what I wanted to know, whether they liked it or not.

And whoever it was better hope I didn’t find them.

My phone chimed with that bullshit ass Ring doorbell thing, and I sucked my teeth. It didn’t do shit I expected, and that only pissed me off more.

If a fucking cat walked its ass past the camera, the mothafucking thing was going off.

I unlocked my phone and opened the app with plans on deleting the whole fucking thing.

I pulled on my blunt and stared down at it, wondering why I even bothered, until something caught my eyes.

A car drove past slowly—that was why it was notifying me. They didn’t stop, and that was probably why it didn’t stand out to me right away, but then I realized I had seen that fucking car before.

Sitting up straight, I put my blunt down and went to yesterday’s recordings. It didn’t take me long to see that same car rode past again, and on two other days before that. I couldn’t see the license plate from the angle of the camera, but I knew I’d seen that fucking car before.

I stood to my feet and paced while I willed myself to remember where I’d seen it before, and then it clicked.

This rage suddenly rushed through my whole body when I realized who it was. Wanting answers, like yesterday, I pocketed my phone, put out my blunt, and picked up my keys.

“What’s up, son?” my pops greeted me as I rushed past him out of the front door. “Where you going?”

“To see someone!” I yelled back. My tires screeched when I pulled away.

It had been three years since I was last home, but I still remembered the places he was likely to be at. After coming up empty at the first two spots, I finally located Sony at the basketball court.

He was seated on the bleachers while his friends messed around. People stopped what they were doing to watch me.

I noticed a group of females in a corner who immediately turned my way.

One of them, with shoulder-length blonde hair, was staring at me like she knew me.

We made eye contact, and a sense of familiarity washed over me, but she turned away from my eyes.

She was avoiding me for some reason, but I had something more important to deal with, so I continued my march over to where Sony was sitting.

He saw me approach and stood to his feet.

“What’s good, Shakur?” he asked.

“The fuck you keep driving past my crib for, nigga?”

I remembered his car from the night I pulled up at him at the races.

We didn’t fuck with each other like that, so there was no reason for him to be riding past my house.

For the past three days, the camera picked him up riding past slowly, watching our fucking house, and I wanted to know why.

Especially because I was back home now, and his ass clearly wasn’t doing that shit before for him not to know who the fuck broke into the house.

“I told you already that I was gonna deal with the niggas that ran up in your shit,” he said, just annoying me more.

I waved him off.

“I don’t want to hear that shit, keep from around my house, bruh. You know I don’t fuck with you,” I let him know. Everyone around went silent and looked at him as if they couldn’t believe that I just said that.

I didn’t care what this nigga called himself doing, he better do that shit far the fuck away from me and my family.

“Oh, it’s like that?” he questioned. I laughed.

“Nigga, it’s been like that. Stay the fuck away, I ain’t gonna tell you again,” I warned him for the last time.

There was never a time when Sony and I were cool.

He thought being a son in The Society meant he was royalty and that I would want to be around him like the rest of the niggas that followed him.

So when I didn’t, he approached me, thinking I would join him, but I had no interest in that.

Because of my father’s involvement, I saw and heard shit about Viper that I didn’t like.

How he used people, stepped on them, and then discarded them like trash.

That was my biggest fear with my father and why I wanted him to stop working for Viper.

He was useful to him now, but what would happen if one day he wasn’t?

Viper wouldn’t give a fuck and would kill us if he wanted to. That was why I wanted nothing to do with Viper or his damn son. I knew that they would only continue to pressure me, so I chose to leave to put an end to it. But I had never seen Sony as an ally and never will.

I turned my back to him and said, “That goes for your pops too. I’m not the same nigga that left here three years ago, Sony.”

I then turned to face him again. “I’m worse.”

He stood there eyeing me. I could see the anger on his face, and to be honest, I just didn’t give a fuck anymore. I was stupid enough to leave town before because of this pussy ass nigga, but not again. I was here to stay, and it was time he realized that.

With that said, I turned and walked away again.

“The fuck you back here for?!” Sony yelled. I snorted and shook my head.

“Don’t worry, nigga, I don’t want any parts of The Society bullshit. Y’all leave us alone, and I’ll leave y’all alone,” I said, not bothering to turn around to face him again.

As I passed those females on the way back to my car, the same one with the blonde hair looking like Meg Thee Stallion was staring at me.

A scowl was on her pretty ass face. As I stared at her, I couldn’t place her face, so I put it down to her probably being one of Sony’s hoes his wife didn’t know about.

Shaking my head at her, I jumped back in my car, hoping Sony listened to me and stayed the fuck away from us.
