Chapter 30

CHAPTER THIRTY

MAKARI “HAVOC” SANCHEZ.

Isat back in the car, looking out of the window, just taking it all in.

I was in a place that I never saw myself being in before.

This wasn’t the life I’d picked for myself.

For as long as I could remember, I loathed everything about The Society because I was never given a choice, but I told myself that I wouldn’t get more involved than I already was. So why was I here?

I was here because Sincere saw something in me that I couldn’t even see in myself, and he also showed me that The Society I thought I knew wasn’t the one he was handing to me.

It wasn’t something I would have ever picked for myself, yet at the same time, it was a place I couldn’t deny fit me more than I ever expected.

Tonight, there was no going back—no changing my mind. This was happening, and I had to be ready because it was going to happen even if I wasn’t.

I sighed heavily, feeling weighed down that although I found the place I truly belonged, I was going without my brother Kelechi. He was always my voice of reason and needed right now more than I could explain.

“It’s full as fuck,” Oblique said from the driver’s seat. He chose to be my personal driver tonight for this occasion, and I appreciated that. When I approached him about joining us, he didn’t even hesitate for a second.

Oblique had always just been in the background of The Society, just allowing his shop to be used, but never really getting too deeply involved.

I knew that I was asking a lot of him by requesting that he join my team.

We hired someone else to run his motorcycle store, and he’d been following me ever since without looking back.

I took note of the number of cars that were there, seeing that he was right. Every member of this shit was in this building, and they had no idea that I was here too.

Sincere requested that I wait outside in my car until the right moment. He wanted everyone to be present before he said what he had to say.

Trini and Shakur were already inside.

I suddenly received a text message from Shakur.

Shak: Sincere is not playing! He’s got everybody sitting down like we at school and shit! They have no idea what’s about to hit them. LOL!

I simpered at his message and shook my head.

“It’s showtime,” Oblique announced, drawing my attention. I looked out of the window and saw Lennox standing at the door. Sincere told me once the time came, he would send Lennox to come and get me. I also noticed his stepson, Aaron, was standing beside him with a smile on his face.

This nigga just liked me for no reason!

“Let’s go,” I said to Oblique.

“Let me get the door for you, boss,” Oblique said, smiling widely at me. I laughed, but he was dead ass serious about it too. I sat back and waited for him to open the door for me.

“Boss,” he greeted me, bowing like a touched ass nigga. All I could do was chuckle.

I buttoned up my tailored suit jacket and walked over to Lennox. He had a look of appreciation on his face as he took in my fit. I was going all out tonight. A lot of mothafuckers inside weren’t gonna recognize me when they saw me, and that was what I wanted!

As we walked through the doors, I took a look around, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone, but she wasn’t there.

I rolled my shoulders back and lifted my head as Lennox opened the door to the grand ballroom.

Just like Shakur said, everyone was sitting at tables chatting but stopped when they saw me.

Even my pops had to do a double-take when he saw him. As expected, he was seated with Viper and Sony. I winked at Orlando, knowing that was gonna ruffle his feathers, and continued on my way toward the front of the room. Sincere was seated at the top table, and he smiled when he saw me.

Oblique went over to where Shakur and Trini were seated. I noticed Lennox and Aaron take a seat not too far from them too.

The room was so silent that you could hear a mouse pissing on cotton! I almost froze up but kept my composure and eyes on Sincere.

When I finally made it to where he was sitting, he stood to his feet and shook my hand.

“I remember when I used to look like that in a suit,” he said, making me laugh. Again, the room remained silent, but I didn’t focus on that.

Sincere patted my shoulder and stepped around me to address the room.

“I’m sure everyone in this room already knows who Havoc is,” he said, taking a break to look around the room before continuing. “I don’t even need to introduce him, but I will for the purpose of this meeting.”

He then turned to look at me and said, “Meet your new boss.”

I swear every mouth in the room dropped open.

“Effective immediately, Havoc will be taking my place. All this shit is now his.”

Murmurs started just like I expected, but I kept my mouth closed.

“Now, my choice is final, and it’s not up for debate,” Sincere said, still the room remained deathly silent.

“If you have a fucking problem with it, you know where the door is,” Sincere added.

Shakur’s stupid ass jumped up to his feet and started pointing at the exit like an air stewardess.

At that moment, I looked over to where my dad was sitting. He had this perplexed look on his face while Viper and Sony looked like they were about to pass the fuck out.

But what I wasn’t expecting was for Orlando to hop up to his feet and start clapping.

“Yes! That’s my son!!” he yelled and danced, just drawing attention to himself. Sincere looked at him like he was crazy.

Funny how now a nigga was his son!

He then sat back down and sipped from his drink while continuing to smile hard as hell.

One of Viper’s friends stood to his feet, and I looked at him, wondering what he had to say. I was already expecting that some people weren’t going to be happy with this news.

“But doesn’t the boss need to be married?” he asked.

I shoved my hands in my pants pocket and asked, “Who said that I wasn’t getting married?”

Again, the room fell silent except for one person—Ocean.

I wasn’t sure what demon spirit jumped into this damn girl, but she was up on her feet, waving like a pageant queen as if I called her stupid ass. Sincere chuckled from beside me.

For some reason, I looked over at Shakur. He looked over at the door, which was still closed, and then at me before shaking his head in disappointment.

Would I have to marry Ocean after all?

The thought alone crippled me, but Sincere made it very clear that I needed to get married and very soon! I’d given Kairi her time, but what if she really wasn’t coming?

I looked down at my watch.

Shakur told me that he told Kairi what time to come here again today before he left. Just like the other times he mentioned it, she didn’t answer him, nor had she reached out to me even once, but I liked to think she heard him.

Ocean was still making a scene, going around to all her little hoe friends, hugging and shit.

A few other people approached me to congratulate me.

Sony and Viper stayed seated, not that I gave a fuck.

I could see it in Sony’s eyes that he knew he done fucked up with me, but for now, I was gonna let him sit in his own shit.

I stood there just staring into nothing. My heart was on the verge of breaking knowing I was going to have to do this alone—without my person. Sincere had handed me everything, a whole new life on a level far above the one I used to live, but all I wanted was Kairi. I needed her.

The doors to the grand ballroom suddenly opened, and I had to blink a few times to make sure I wasn’t seeing shit.

“Kairi,” I whispered her name. Something fiery was igniting inside of my soul as she looked at me.

She walked in, eyes on me, her spirit calling out to mine, looking like a queen in this badass long dress that hugged every curve I’d embedded into my mind.

The split on the left side exposed her glossed leg with every step she took.

Her heels echoed around the room, making the sweetest sound to my ears.

Her hair was in a straight bob, and her pouty lips were covered in red lipstick. Kairi flicked her eyes my way and kept my gaze until she was standing before me. Her hypnotic perfume swirled around my head while I got lost in her face.

She came to me when I needed her the most. I couldn’t do this life without her, and thankfully, I wouldn’t have to.

“Am I late?” she asked before smiling at me.

“Nah, you’re right on time,” I said before pulling her into me.

“Ladies and gentlemen, meet Havoc and his wife,” Shakur shouted from across the room.

I used my finger to tilt Kairi’s head back before placing a deep kiss on her lips.

“Y’all are invited to the wedding!” Shakur shouted, making a few people laugh. I pulled away from Kairi’s lips and winked at her.

“Are you serious right now, Havoc?” Ocean shouted. “Daddy!” she screamed. He came to stand beside her, his face in a frown, but then he looked to Sincere, who simply smiled and pointed at me.

Leo’s face morphed, and he bit into his bottom lip as he stared at my face.

“You think you can do this to me, Havoc?!” Ocean continued to rant.

I looked around her at Oblique, who immediately snatched her up and escorted her out of the room because I didn’t have shit to say to her. Her dad flicked his eyes up at me and then rushed out after her.

I felt Kairi stiffen beside me, and I turned my eyes to her. She was shaking like a leaf, and I didn’t like that shit.

“As long as I’m around, you never have to be afraid, Kairi. I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise from my heart.”

She pulled back to look me in my eyes, and I took her right hand and placed it against my heart so that she knew I meant every word I spoke.

Kairi smiled at me, and that made me smile too.

“So, you showed up tonight. You know that means we’re getting married now, right?” I asked, smiling widely, knowing that this damn girl was finally all mine.

“When?” she asked the right question!

I wrapped my arm around her and pulled her body into mine.

Shakur saluted us, and I nodded my head at my new brother-in-law.
