Chapter 31
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
KAIRI MOORE
The sound of his heart beating in my ear brought me peace I didn’t know could exist. I felt his chest inflate with air, and then his arms wrapped around my body. I basked in that feeling.
Everything about this moment made me realize that I’d made the right decision in going to that meeting.
There was never a question about my feelings for Makari. I knew it when I wasn’t able to stay away from him, but my love for my family made me hesitate.
I knew that he could protect me, protect us, but I just didn’t want to be a burden to him. That was my biggest fear. But I was glad that I faced that fear and went to him. Since that night, I’d been close to him, almost in his skin, and I never wanted this moment to end.
Last night, he brought me to a wooded area to practice how to use a gun. At first, I was scared, but then I welcomed it because I wanted to protect him just as much as he defended me!
We were about to be the head of a world. Makari didn’t sugarcoat it. He gave it to me raw and direct. It was a dangerous world—kill or be killed, and I wanted to live.
Makari ran a hand down my spine, instantly arousing me and making goosebumps pepper my skin. I lifted my head up to look at me, and he stroked my cheek.
“We need to practice some more tonight. I want to make sure you know how to defend yourself,” he said. I nodded with a smile.
“Do you remember what I told you last night?”
“Mmhmm,” I bounced my head. “Aim for the head.”
“Good girl.”
Makari lifted his head and placed a kiss on my lips. I slipped my tongue into his mouth, and he rolled us over.
I cooed as he kissed all over my body before burying his head between my legs.
My back arched, and I clawed at the silk bedsheets.
“Makari, wait,” I panted and tried to push his head.
“Nah, baby, I ain’t waiting. You belong to me now,” he said before diving back in.
I couldn’t even hold it; my orgasm ripped right through me. Before I even had the chance to recover, Makari slipped inside of me.
“I’m making up for all the lost time, you hear me?” he growled in my ear. I felt my heart flutter from his words alone.
I cupped his face and kissed his lips as he worked his hips inside of me. Within minutes, we were both cumming together.
He lay on top of me, panting and kissing my lips a few times before he finally pulled out of me. I immediately went to turn on my side, but he stopped me.
“You don’t have time to rest; I’ve set up an appointment for you at the bridal store.
A friend of mine works there, and she will look after you,” he said, surprising me.
Our wedding was fast approaching, and I was getting a little excited now.
Havoc had made everything so easy for me by organizing everything. I was so surprised by that.
“Come on and let’s shower. Tomorrow, we have the appointment to get the marriage license,” he said with such a cute smile on his face.
He reached a hand out for me, and I happily took it.
An hour later, I arrived on time for my appointment at Kleinfield along with Sparkle. I was in awe because this store wasn’t a cheap one, but Makari assured me that any expenses would be covered by him. He gave me a wad of cash and his black card to use for anything my heart desired.
He was truly spoiling me, and I could definitely get used to this life.
“Hello, can I help you?” a short, dark skinned, thick-bodied girl approached us and asked.
“Oh yes, I have an appointment with Angelica,” I informed her. The girl frowned at me and then looked me up and down before saying, “Are you Havoc’s wife-to-be?”
I nodded while I noticed the way she looked at me, as if she was expecting someone else.
The fact that she said Havoc’s name let me know that she knew him, but her face said it wasn’t me she was expecting.
“Is there a problem?” Sparkle asked, obviously picking up on how this girl was staring in my face. It had me wondering how she actually knew Havoc.
Girl, calm down. He would never make me meet with a girl he slept with before.
“Oh, nothing. Right this way,” the girl suddenly smiled and waved me to follow her. As she turned away, I peered over at Sparkle, who was just shaking her head.
The girl led us into our own private fitting room, and Sparkle immediately went for the bottle of champagne.
“I will go and get a few dress samples for you to choose from,” the girl said, smiled, and hurriedly left the room. I put my bag down and took off my bomber jacket. I laughed when I saw Sparkle sipping on champagne and eating these people’s crackers and cheese.
I sat in my chair, taking that moment to let it all sink in. Was this really happening to me?
I rubbed my legs and looked around the room. My pulse quickened a little, hesitation of the change slowly creeping over me.
I sighed once, then again.
I’d never seen myself getting married before.
Just then, an image of Makari flashed before my eyes, and I smiled.
Yes, I never saw myself ever getting married; however, right in this moment, it felt right and real. Like my life was going in the direction it was supposed to, with the right person.
A few minutes later, a knock came on the door, and I told the person to come in.
In walked Ocean, slowly clapping with that girl behind her. At least now I knew why she was staring at me. She knew Havoc, but I should have known that she knew Ocean, too.
Sparkle attempted to stand up, but I stopped her and approached Ocean and the girl who had a smirk on her face. I just looked right at her and smiled, silently telling her that she fucked up. Her smile dropped, and she took a step away from me, and then I turned my attention to Ocean.
She didn’t speak yet, just studied me like she was waiting for the perfect moment to try and break me. But not this time. This time, I was picking myself. I wasn’t fighting for a man but fighting for my place, and this was where I belonged! And it was time Ocean knew it.
“Can I help you?” I asked. Her mouth dropped, but she quickly recovered.
“Bitch, you got me sooooo fucked up right now!” Ocean yelled, clapping. I folded my arms across my chest, waiting for her to continue.
“Explain to me how the fuck you went from meeting my nigga in the club to getting ready to marry him?!”
I sighed and decided that it was best if I just told her the truth.
“Listen, Ocean, that night in the club was the first time I met him, but I saw him again after that,” I started. Her mouth slowly fell open, but she didn’t say anything, so I continued.
“I had a job before that as a housekeeper, and a few days after that, I found out it was at his condo.”
Ocean looked away from me as she took in what I had said.
“Things just happened between us since then,” I finished. Her eyes snapped back my way, and anger flashed across her face.
“So, even after I warned you, you still fucked my nigga?!”
All I could do was shake my head at her.
“Your nigga?” I asked just to clarify what she said before I finally put her in her place. Yeah, I was wrong to mess with Havoc in the beginning, especially after believing that they were together like that, but she wasn’t going to act like I was the only one who did something wrong.
“Yes, bitch! My man, and you must be out of your fucking mind to think I’m gonna let you marry him!”
“Was he your man when you were fucking Sony?” I blurted out. Ocean gasped and stepped back from me. Her reaction alone told me that my assumption was right. I didn’t have any proof, but she just unintentionally gave it to me.
Something about the way she was reacting at my house that night Sony came with his dad to kill mine.
She was acting more bothered than River was, and every time she saw me, she had something to say.
Ocean was coming for me long before I ever met Havoc, and that shit always bothered me until I suspected that she was probably sleeping with him too.
Her lack of a comeback right now did nothing but prove me right.
She then laughed, laced with denial.
“Whatever, you don’t know what you’re talking about,” she shrugged. Ocean tried to look confident, but her wavering eyes gave her away.
“Anyway, enjoy it while it lasts. He won’t stay yours forever,” she said, trying to get under my skin.
“Let’s see what Makari has to say about that,” I said before I pulled my phone out and called him on speakerphone.
“Hey, baby, you found a dress already?” he answered. Ocean’s face flashed red. In all the time I’d seen her claim this man as her own, I had never heard or seen him call her anything other than her name. The tears welling in her eyes told me that she picked up on that too.
I wasn’t trying to be a bitch, and this was so out of character for me, but I’d just had enough of her coming for me and threatening my family. And if this was the only way to get rid of her, then so be it.
I was standing up for myself.
“Uh, no, not yet. Your friend doesn’t seem to want to help me,” I said, now looking at the girl.
“Hmmm,” Havoc said then chuckled. “It’s all good. I just texted her manager, and she will deal with it. But you better not leave that place without a dress, Kairi. I don’t care how much it costs. I’m not playing with you. I’ll marry you buck ass naked if I have to,” he said, laughing.
I heard someone say something in the background, and I rolled my eyes, knowing it was Shakur minding our business.
“I wish to hell you would, Havoc! Kairi, you better find a fucking dress!”
“Your brother is hating, but remember what I said, Mrs. Sanchez. I gotta go, we having a meeting. Hurry up, I miss you,” Makari cooed, making my heart flutter.
“Nigga, get off the phone!” Shakur screamed, making us both laugh.
Just as I hung up the phone, the door opened again, and who I assumed to be this girl’s manager stepped through the door.
“Mrs. Sanchez, I am so sorry for the issues. Angelica, please go collect your things. Security is waiting to escort you off the premises.”
“No, wait. I’m sorry!” Angelica hollered, but her manager asked security to take her out of the room.
Ocean looked at me. I could see it in her eyes that she wanted to do something; however, we both knew that she couldn’t.
“Can you also take this young lady out?” the manager said to another security guard. The man immediately grabbed Ocean by her upper arm and pulled her out of the room as she stared at me in complete awe.
“Now, Mrs. Sanchez, let’s find you the perfect dress and get you married, shall we?”
I smiled and said, “Yes. I’m ready.”
