Chapter 46
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
MAKARI “HAVOC” SANCHEZ
TWO WEEKS LATER
Iwoke up to the smell of bacon cooking and fresh-baked bread.
There was only one person I knew who would make homemade bread like that.
A smile was on my face because it had been a minute since I saw my mama.
After the streets erupted into chaos, I kept her away to protect her.
Then my father did the fuck boy thing by disappearing as if she didn’t exist. I knew that messed with her, and she fell into depression because of it.
It seemed like she finally found her way out!
I turned to my left to look for my wife and wasn’t even shocked to see that her greedy ass was already gone. I chuckled, yawned, and stretched before climbing out of bed and going into the bathroom.
On my way, I grabbed my phone and checked my messages.
Shakur let me know that our meeting was set up for later today. I let him know that I will be there and quickly hopped in the shower.
Twenty minutes later and I walked into the kitchen.
“You couldn’t wake me up or wait for me?” I questioned Kairi. She looked over at me mid-bite.
“I’m sorry, I was so hungry,” she laughed before shoving more food into her mouth.
“Girl, I was the same way when I was pregnant with this big-headed boy,” Mama said.
“Why my head gotta be big though?” I asked, approaching and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
“Because it is. I’m not lying,” Mama sassed. Kairi found it funny, but I had something for her.
“Laugh, but did you forget that you’re the one pregnant with my baby now,” I said. Kairi’s face instantly dropped at the realization.
“So, you better hope his or her head isn’t big like mine too.”
That made her shut up, but I laughed when tears sparkled in her eyes.
“I was joking!” I said. Mama slapped the hell out of me for making this crybaby ass girl cry.
“But it’s not funny. Why would you say something like that to me?” Kairi wailed, getting me in trouble and shit.
“Oh, baby, I’m sorry.”
I tried to kiss her, but she just mushed me in the face.
But my mama offering some more food make that ass stop crying though.
At this rate, the baby might be too fucking fat because of her eating, I thought, but knew better than to say out loud!
After my mom handed Kairi more food that she didn’t need, she turned to look at me.
“You good?” I asked.
No matter what, I always wanted my mama to be good. That was why I didn’t like her with Orlando because he didn’t mean her well. To him, she was something to play with and use to control me. I knew he never truly loved or cared about my mama, and I just didn’t want that for her.
“I’m good,” she responded with a bright smile on her face. She squeezed my hand, and I smiled back at her, loving her growth.
It warmed my heart because it had been a long time since I saw my mother’s smile that genuine. Over the years, I knew she kept a fake smile on her face to comfort me, but today, this one was different. It was real, warm, and reached her eyes how she used to smile when I was younger.
And finally, I had my mama back.
I was pissed when I found out that Orlando had left town; however, now, looking at the joy in my mother’s eyes, I realized it was the best thing he could have ever done for her.
I still hadn’t heard from him, and I didn’t expect to. To Orlando, I was never truly his son, and I was okay with that. Wherever he was, I just hoped he found true peace and got on with his life.
My mom stepped around me, and I took a seat at the table next to Kairi. As I stared at her, I wondered what our child would look like and what it would be like being a father. The thought made me feel good.
“Don’t be stressing out my baby, Kairi,” I whispered. She elbowed me and continued putting grapes into her mouth.
My mom turned my way with a plate of food, and I reached out to grab it.
“It’s not for you!” Mama said, pulling the plate back from my reach.
I frowned.
“Well, who’s it for?”
There were only three of us in the kitchen. They already had their food, so who the fuck was that piled plate for, if not for me?
“Good morning, everyone.” I turned my head back when I heard Lennox’s voice.
“Good morning,” my mama rushed to answer him, making my neck snap back in her direction because she sounded a little too sweet for my liking.
“I, uh, made you some breakfast. Please join us,” Mama said, setting the plate down for Lennox.
So, that’s why her ass was over here cooking like it was her job!
This little girl actually smiled and blushed with Lennox, like I wasn’t sitting there. I turned to look at him, my eyes narrowing at him. He looked at me and nervously cleared his throat.
I bounced my eyes back over to my mama, who suddenly looked uncomfortable all of a sudden.
I didn’t even have to ask—they were creeping around!
When I looked back at Lennox, he was staring at me.
I felt jealousy rush over me. I didn’t want anyone with my mama because I didn’t trust anyone with her except for me. After watching Orlando hurt her over and over again, I didn’t want anyone near her again.
But she also deserved to be happy after dealing with my dad for so long.
I held Lennox’s gaze firmly for a moment before I smiled, letting him know that I trusted him.
“Just don’t be making any babies and shit. I like being my mama’s only child,” I said. Lennox laughed when Mama slapped fire from my ass. Kairi giggled and then started helping me eat my food like she hadn’t had enough!
I took that moment to look around at my family. Two people were missing, but I like to think that they were in heaven together, watching over me.
Sincere, keep my brother out of trouble and save a spot for me!
I stepped into the warehouse, and everyone stood to their feet in silence. As I passed by, my footsteps echoing, I took note of all who were in attendance. They were all there for me, and I was there for them, too.
My eyes caught Shakur’s, and he gave me a sly smirk. It was crazy how we went from not liking or understanding each other to being in each other’s corners.
He was the version of Kairi that mirrored me and someone I held close. Nobody could ever replace my brother, but I found another brother in my eyes.
Hell would always be my right-hand man, but I was happy to know he was up there keeping Sincere company.
I felt a sense of pride wash over me, knowing he would be proud seeing me now. I’d grown in just a few weeks, and it was all thanks to my two angels.
Oblique saluted me, and Hayden bowed like a fucking idiot, making me shake my head at him while he chuckled.
I made it to the front and turned to face them.
“All eyes on me,” I said, and looked around to see that they already were!
