Chapter 28 #2
“That’s the name attached to the phone that those text were coming from. I’m tryna get the location of the phone ima hit y’all back when I find out.”
“Cool,” Ya’ said, disconnecting the call.
“I figured that nigga Riker had something to do with it,” Nakeem grunted. “That’s why that nigga went MIA.”
“You think he knows?” Ya’ asked looking back at me.”
“Ain’t no way,” I said, blowing out an aggravated sigh.
Something wasn’t adding up to me. I still couldn’t see Riker being calculated enough to pull some shit off like this.
Riker was the kind of nigga that didn’t think he just did.
A lot of times that’s what got the nigga into fucked up situaton.
I kept my thoughts to myself as we all rode in silence to Riker’s mama house. I hoped she could lead us to the nigga.
Thirty minutes later we pulled up to Riker’s mama’s house, and we parked a few houses up the street.
“Ya’ come up here with me.” I said opening the car door.
“Aww here they go,” Nakeem messily said. “They too good for me or you to go with them.” Nakeem said nudging Titon in the back of his shoulder.
“Fuck them lame ass niggas,” Titon snickered. “You know they old asses can’t hang with us.”
“You mutha fuckin’ right,” Ya’ playfully spat opening his door. “We let you niggas come we ah be in a damn shoot out.”
“If we get the answers we looking for do the minor shit matter? Nakeem asked with a goofy grin.
“Facts,” Titon co-signed.
“And that’s why you Wild West ass niggas staying in the car.” I said shaking my head at them crazy ass niggas.
Ya’ and I headed towards the house. I went up to the metal screen door. I raised my hand to knock only for the door to be snatched open.
“Oh fuck!” A female voice said as she tried to slam the door closed.
I laughed the door I snatched it open and the bitch went flying back from the force, snatching my nine from my waist, I looked back to see Ya’ on the same time as me. Cautiously we entered the house closing the screen door behind us.
“Gretchen?” I asked with my gun pointed at her on the ground. “The fuck you doing here?”
“Please don’t kill me. I told Pricilla I was leaving after Riker’s funeral for good.” Gretchen begged scooting backwards deeper into the house.
“Riker’s funeral? When that nigga die?” Ya’ said, stepping forward.
“Huh? Yyyou didn’t know Riker got killed?” Gretchen asked perplexed as she look between Ya’ and me. “ I I I thought you guys killed Riker.”
“Why the fuck would we want to kill that nigga?” I asked frowning.
“Pricilla said you knew?” Gretchen fearfully answered. “You were going to be out for our blood.” She rambled on not making any sense.
“We knew what?” Ya’ asked.
“About me and Riker. My sons not being Sonni’s.”
“Stand up,” I demanded, mugging Gretchen. I didn’t like us standing over her. She was makin’ a nigga feel like he was a monster or some shit.
Doing as I said Gretchen stood to her feet and her small round stomach was noticeable.
“You was fucking with Riker?” I asked her skeptically.
Gretchen fucking with Riker never crossed my mind. The two of them barely spoke to each other.
“Yeah. I was always with Riker. The thing with Sonni was a front.” Gretchen nervously replied.
“Ain’t no fuckin’ way,” I snarled. Wasn’t nobody finna fake a relationship as long as Gretchen and Sonni. She had been his faithful side chick for years. I can’t lie I always wondered why Gretchen stayed fucking with Sonni when his head had been stuck so far up Solana’s ass.
Gretchen squinted her eyes at us, turning her lips up as she asked, “Y’all really don’t know about any of this?”
“We don’t but you gon’ tell us,” Ya’ said cocking his gun and pointing it in Gretchen’s directions.
“Bbbut you’re gonna kill me if I tell you the truth,” Gretchen cried with big crocodile tears coming down her cheeks.
“Maybe not, depends on what you tell us. Def, gone kill you if you don’t tell us what the fuck is going on,” I coolly replied.
“Uh, um, um, Pricilla paid all of u-”
“Who the fuck is all of us?” Ya’ barked, making Gretchen jump back slightly.
“Mmme, Riker, Sonni and Maddison,” She stuttered over her words fearfully.
“Maddie? My Maddison?” I asked, cocking my head to the side.
“Yyyeah. Her and Sonni were dating back in college. Sonni talked her into helping us. He knew she was more your type than I would have been.”
Sonni knew me well because he wasn’t wrong, Gretchen is beautiful in her own right but she wasn’t my type. I preferred the females I fucked with to be brown skin and thick. Gretchen was the exact opposite of what I liked.
“For what? Ion get why y’all sticking around playing fake girlfriends,” I asked through gritted teeth.
A nigga was heated. All the time I wasted on Maddie knowing the bitch was running a game on me. That bitch had to see me, there wasn’t no way she was getting away with this shit.
“Money, Pricilla promised us a fortune we couldn’t imagine if we helped her take all of you down. Her and Sonni wanted all four of you dead. Sonni was supposed to take over in the streets while Pricilla took over all of your businesses.”
“So what y’all was supposed to infiltrate us from the inside out? What y’all supposed to be ghetto spies?” I shook my head not believing the shit a mutha fucka would do to get a little bit of money.
They did everything but go get their own hustle to stack their bread up.
Me and my brothers worked for everything we had.
Wasn’t shit given to us. We had to hug the block all night just like the next nigga.
Sleepless nights and going days without eating just to get our bread right.
Mutha fuckas saw where we were now, they didn’t see the blood, sweat and tears we put into this shit.
They just wanted to reap the benefits of our hustle.
What was crazy was the people trying to take from us were the ones who could have gotten anything from us without asking.
Just cause she gave birth to me I would have given my mama whatever she wanted.
Even though she didn’t deserve it, I still gave her the benefit of the doubt.
She ain’t even have to work for us she just wanted too.
Sonni that little nigga, he always got what he wanted.
Why he felt the need to try to fuck us over was beyond me, All of us looked out for Sonni so he would never have to get his hands dirty.
That’s why I was so against him being in the streets.
He wasn’t about that life and I knew it.
I should have known Pricilla was up to something how adamant she was about putting Sonni on.
“Something like that. Pricilla had girls for all of you. Colleen really fell in love with you so she didn’t want to follow through with the plan. I never met the girls she had for Nakeem or Titon.”
“What to y’alls plans happened?”
“Y’all killed Sonni and Riker. Pricilla started spiraling after that. She started talking about killing kids and a bunch of other crazy stuff. Riker and I both decided she was taking shit too far. We just wanted to raise our sons in peace.” Gretchen solemnly responded.
“We didn’t kill Riker,” I informed Gretchen. “We didn’t even know he was dead. We came here hoping to find him.”
“I iii, thought Pricilla said you knew about everything and that’s why you killed Sonni and Riker. She told me if I didn’t leave you all were going to kill me next but I couldn’t miss Riker’s funeral.”
“We ain’t finna kill you. But seeing how Pricilla moving I would leave if I were you.” Ya’ told her lowering his gun.
“Okay, thank you. I’m sorry for being involved in any of this.
I swear if I knew people were going to lose their lives I would have never agreed to any of it.
” Gretchen sincerely replied. I believed her because she didn’t give me those types of impressions.
You could tell she wasn’t a real bitch from the streets.
“Make this a lesson learned. Stay safe.” I said, turning to follow behind Ya’ as he opened the front door.
“Hey!” Gretchen called to us, we stopped both turning to look back at her. “I might be over stepping my boundaries but if you didn’t know about any of this why, why did you kill Riker and Sonni?”
I don’t know if Gretchen was tryna be slick or try to catch us up with her question. “We said we didn’t kill Riker. Take care.” I replied then walked out the door.
