20. Sovereign #2
“I hear you, Abuela.” I gave a small smile. I hadn’t told her about what all was going on back in the states. Tomorrow, I planned on explaining to her what all took place with her favorite grandchild.
“You make me so proud, El amado(Beloved).” She smiled and coughed a little.
“I just wish, you Papa could see what all he could have been. Surely, he lives through you.” My heart ached at her revelation.
I learned a long time ago to just let my Abuela talk.
Elders were stuck in their own beliefs. I didn’t like wasting time and energy trying to convince her of my own beliefs.
I hated when she mentioned my father. She never acknowledged my mother unless she had something bad to say.
“When you see me tomorrow, we will talk about this Melvin… and his whereabouts.” That brought me joy. I was ready to carry out this hit just to get a step closer to my own revenge. I leaned forward and placed a kiss to my Abuela’s cheek. There was nothing left to say.
The city of Mexico seemed to never sleep. I loved the architecture of the entire country. Some parts were dirty and gritty. While other parts seemed magical. I thought back to how my father use to reminisce of being here and I remembered the pride he took in his country.
“I always know I’m home Mijo by the smell of fresh tortillas. It’s all about life’s simple pleasures.” My father was a simple man; it never took too much to make him happy. I loved my mother the same but because of me being a daddy’s girl, I missed him more.
Just like my Abuela said the city Pueblos Ma’gicos was lit up and looked very magical.
Instead of trash being littered around on the streets, it was clean.
No kids out roaming the streets. Everyone seemed to be in their homes sleep.
This was like the Beverly Hills of Mexico.
It was one way in and one way out making the escape more dangerous.
“Park around back, I don’t need you all going in with me. I want to be in and out, no hiccups.” I didn’t like doing dirt with people. I didn’t have time to be worried about the moves the other men made. Plus, I didn’t feel comfortable with them. I didn’t trust these niggas with my life.
“Don’t get out this car, I don’t need attention on us either.” We were about an hour in a half away from Malice place. I had no plans of even going right back to his house either. I was going to spend the night at my Abuela’s and then take the private jet back to Cali in the morning.
Hopping out so I wouldn’t hear they’re protesting to me making them stay in the car.
The cold crisp air hit my face first, I threw my black hoodie over my head and glanced down at my rose gold Patek.
It was nearing one in the morning. This couple was old, so I was sure that they had to be sleep.
Checking my surroundings, I saw nothing out of the ordinary.
My Maxim Nine Mili gun cost a grip. It was the worlds first integrally suppressed nine-millimeter handgun.
I didn’t need to connect a silencer to it.
I imagined the cost but didn’t know because my Abuela gave it to me as a gift.
Walking through the backyard, I admired the rose-bed the married couple had leading up to the back door.
My conscience told me something wasn’t right when the back door unlocked and opened with no problem.
The smell of fresh tortillas hit my nose first along with spices.
The house was traditionally crafted out of stone walls and archways with low ceilings.
I walked so softly, that I couldn’t hear my own footsteps.
The palms of my hands started to sweat from anticipation.
It was different killing someone that had wronged me.
I never killed for others especially not knowing why the fuck I was even killing.
My Abuela wanted me to shoot on sight. Hopefully they were tucked in bed sleep. The front room was dark, but the moonlight shone through.
“I’ve waited for you for over a decade. I purposely leave the front and back door open for Ju.
Turn the light on and show me your pretty face Sovereign.
” That weakened voice came from a rocking chair that faced the window.
His dry vocal cords sounded stringy and strained.
I had the perfect opportunity to kill him now and find his wife.
I couldn’t do that because this old ass man called me by my government and not too many people had the pleasure of knowing that.
Curiosity coursed through me as I squinted to find the light switch.
Once the light came on, I quickly walked around until I came face to face with a wrinkly old man that looked like he was in his late eighties.
“We don’t have much time Sovereign.” My hands started to shake as I licked my lips.
“Time for what?” I gritted placing my index finger on the trigger.
“My execution. My little sister is very powerful and persistent. She sent you here to kill me and my wife.” My stomach tightened and a million questions roamed through my mind. If Abuela would kill her own brother, who else would she kill.
“Tio(Uncle)?” That voice instantly brought tears to my eyes.
My skin became clammy, and I started to sweat profusely even though the house was cold.
I hadn’t seen that face since a kid, but I’d never forget that thick accent and deep voice.
“Who are you in here talking to?” My breathing became shallow as I attempted to speak but nothing came out.
I was starting to become overwhelmed with a million emotions as the footsteps down the dark hallway came closer.
I saw his face first, and we both remained stuck in place as if time stood still.
“We don’t have much time, Mijo.” I heard this crazy old man talking but my eyes were currently locked in with my….
“Papa?” I said a little above a whisper before everything started to spin around me. My vision blurry, I felt myself hitting the cold tile floor before darkness consumed me.
To be continued……
