2. Love

LOVE

“Why the fuck I gotta pee in a cup? You violating my Fifteenth Amendment, nigga!”

I sat back in my leather chair, and ran my hand through my beard, sighing out loud.

Every day, it’s the same thing with these ignorant muthafuckas.

Nigga doesn’t know his head from his ass, let alone the Fifteenth Amendment.

I’ve been D-Low’s parole officer for eight months.

And apparently, he still doesn’t know me well enough to see I don’t give a fuck about his temper tantrums.

Matter fact, I got an attitude too. I been sitting in this hard ass chair all day, with nothing to eat besides chips from the vending machine.

“The right to vote?” I retorted, staring at him with a blank expression.

He opened and closed his mouth multiple times, like he didn’t know what to say. Of course, he doesn’t. The best thing he can do is keep his mouth shut before he makes an ass of himself again.

“Shit, that too. Get Trump ass the fuck outta office,” he boasted.

I rubbed my hand down my face in frustration at this illiterate nigga. I should’ve called the fuck off. Instead of keeping this conversation going, I held a clear cup towards him.“You have five minutes. The officer will be right outside the door.”

He snatched it so damn forcefully, I almost dropped it on the floor. I had to clench my jaw so hard to remind myself where the fuck I am. One thing you gotta have while working this job is patience. Otherwise, I would’ve jacked his Katt Williams looking ass up and threw him across the room.

I’ve worked here for a year after getting my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Dealing with the worst of the worst kind of people, I never met a muthafucka I couldn’t handle.... Until her.

I was going through paperwork when somebody knocked on my door.

“Come in.”

Seeing my supervisor, I dropped my pen and sighed. She closed the door behind her and came around my desk, and I prayed she wasn’t coming in here to get some dick in the middle of my shift.

Me and Lauren been fucking for three months, but it wasn't serious to me. I’m not tryna be tied down to nobody, but it’s not for her lack of trying.

It’s always that one person that thinks she can change your ways, and Lauren is that bitch for me.

Ain’t nothing wrong with her, though. I respect her, and how she got to where she was, I just don’t think she’s the one to change me.

“Hey baby. What you got going on?”

She walked her ass over and plopped right in my lap. I had to bite the corner of my lip to keep from groaning. She fine, but she is on the thick side. She damn near broke me in half.

“What it look like, baby girl? I’m working.”

That’s another thing I hate, her asking me stupid ass questions. The fuck I’m here for if I ain’t doing my job? I’d rather be knee deep in pussy right now, not here babysitting niggas like D-Low.

“Fuck you want, Lo? I got somebody in the bathroom.”

I know some people scared to talk recklessly to their supervisor, but I ain’t one of them. If a muthafucka comes in here bothering me when I’m busy, best believe I’m cursing their ass clean out.

“I missed you.” She turned her head to the side and watched me over her shoulder. “Wanna fuck on your break?”

Any other time I’ll be with all that, but I ain’t feeling it today. My dick straining to break out as we speak, but I pay his ass no mind. My man always want smoke.

“Nah, not today, love. I’m hungry as hell. I gotta eat something.” I tapped her leg twice, so she’ll take the hint and get up. She took that shit as something else entirely when she straddled my legs, turning around towards me.

Leaning in, she bit down on my ear while whispering, “You can eat me instead.”

She knows that ear shit gets my dick hard every time.

“Man, get the fuck off me,” I spat, pushing at her waist. “And tell a nigga why you really came in here.”

Her eyes glistened like she was about to cry, and I sucked my teeth.

Here we go again.

This ain’t the first time she pulled this on me. Her ass always crying when she can’t get what she wants.

“Why you gotta be so mean to me? I’m saying, you know I want you. We been fucking for a while now, Love. Why can’t we just be together?”

That’s why. No offense, but I don’t need no bitch begging to be with me. That’s unattractive. I’m supposed to be doing the begging. This whining shit won’t get her nowhere in my book.

“Lo, don’t ask questions if you ain’t sure you want the answers. I ain’t relationship material, baby.” I tapped her leg again, but when she ain’t budge, I challenged her. “Get up or loose this dick.”

She leaped to her feet instantly, and that’s a damn shame. Once she got off me, I readjusted myself in my slacks.

“Okay. You don’t have to be so dramatic. I came in to warn you about your new parolee coming next Monday,” she said, pulling down the edges of her pencil skirt.

My eyebrows knitted together. I’m handling fifty-six paroles right now, I don’t need another one.

“Who is he?” I inquired, pressing my fingers against my forehead. My head been pounding all day. I usually kept a bottle of ibuprofen in my top drawer, but I used the last two yesterday.

“She,” she emphasized, passing me the file she dropped on the chair. This is a prime example of why she doesn’t need to be nobody’s supervisor. Trying to get some dick, instead of handling her business first.

“Baby–something,” she added, confusion on her face.

Baby? My heart thumped wildly in my chest at the thought of this baby, being that baby. I opened the file and scanned the name at the top.

Shit!

Baby Wilcox.

Well, I be damned. The last time I saw this girl was right before she was arrested. We had mutual friends, so we were always in the same place at the same time, but we never spoke to each other.

I had my eyes on her since I saw her at a block party about five years ago.

My homeboy Messiah invited Jayda, some girl he fucked around with, and told her to come through.

I was twenty at the time, a young wild bull.

A typical corner boy, selling bags with nothing on my mind but money.

I had a change of heart when Jayda walked in with Baby behind her.

She was the finest bitch I’d ever seen. Her warm brown eyes locked on mine, but I was too stuck on watching her to move my goddamn feet. I lost the opportunity altogether when my nigga T.K. slid up on her.

I knew I had no chance when she started grinning hard as hell in his face. He a smooth talking muthafucka, and ain’t no bitch encountered T.K., that he ain’t get. Aside from that, he was my boy, and I ain’t no hoe ass nigga. I honestly didn’t think anything was gone happen between them.

Baby wasn’t the kind of broad he usually went for.

But when her and Jayda walked off from us, he went on and on about how much he liked her. Naturally, I stepped aside.

I only saw Baby six times after that, and every time, she was up under him.

We never spoke directly. However, whenever we got in the same room, a nigga couldn’t help but seek her out.

Despite how interested she seemed in him, I was craving her attention.

The subtle glances she threw my way when she thought I wasn’t looking made me believe she wanted the same thing.

Even though I told myself it is what it is, I was mad as hell she chose him. He was the wrong nigga from jump. Ain’t no way he knew how to satisfy her mind and body the way that I could.

Then, shit just went left when that accident happened.

Everybody heard about it, but nobody knew the real story. When she got arrested, it was hood news for months. Everywhere I went, I heard about Baby and T.K., but even his ass ain’t say what really happened, not even to us.

She got his ass good, though. He came through looking all kinds of fucked up.

His eyes were swollen, and he was missing a tooth in the front.

I saw the damage, but I still told him he was a bitch made nigga for calling the police.

I’m the only one who called him out on it.

Even my brother was on his side, saying she deserved what she got.

He was always a follow the leader ass nigga when it came to T.K.

so I wasn’t surprised when he jumped ship.

I would’ve had some bitches beat the shit out of her, if need be, but the last thing I’m gonna do is snitch on a female.

That ain’t part of the game I wanna play.

Needless to say, I was heated, and me and T.K. never got back right. When we see each other now, neither one of us speaks to the other and I ain’t got a problem with that.

I was throwed when I heard she got sentenced to three years. It made me want to track his bitch ass down and do him in myself. I mean, what she did was foul too, but still.

My judgement may have been clouded by the way I felt about her, the way I still feel about her.

“You heard me, Love?”

I was interrupted by Lauren’s voice, and for a second, I forgot her ass was still in my office.

“What?” I started doing bullshit, like straightening out papers on my desk. Just thinking about Baby got me feeling some type of way. It’s been so damn long since I let my mind go there.

“I asked if it’ll be a problem with you taking this case? Any conflict of interest?”

I know she gotta ask me this question. It’s mandatory, but this is the first time I hesitated to give her a response. We can’t have no connections, no ties at all to the cases we handle.

This is where I’m supposed to tell her, yeah, I do.

But shit, technically, we never even spoke. But that’s just me tryna make whatever situation this is, okay.

It won’t be possible for me to be around Baby, and not wanna fuck the shit outta her.

Not wanna kiss them pretty ass lips, I remembered.

Not wanna get to know her in a way no parolee and parole officer should.

Not wanna question her about what happened that day.

A nigga realized, I’m no better than D-Low, on that stupid shit.

I knew it when I opened my mouth and told the biggest lie in history.

“Nah, I can take it. I ain’t got no connection with her.”
