Chapter Five
When Leon went to his office for a moment’s peace he found Jelly Bean and Rebel waiting for him. The both of them were sitting in the high back chairs in front of his desk.
He sighed hard as he knew by the looks on their faces this would not be a peaceful moment. He went around and sat down at his desk. Then looked at the two women and asked, “Can I help you ladies?”
Jelly Bean growled. “Yeah, you can help us. Tell us about the woman the guys brought in. Who the hell beat her up like that?”
“So, you saw that, hmm?” he asked them quietly.
“Yes, we did,” Rebel replied.
Leon paused as he stared at them for a long time.
Then he leaned back against his chair and told them about Ria, “Her brothers dragged her here to Boston. They were following the cartel we are dealing with. They came here to make their bones and prove to the cartel they had what it takes to join them.” Shaking his head he added, “They were troppo poco, troppo tardi.”
The two women crossed their arms over their chests and glared at him.
Leon sighed and translated it, “Too little, too late. You both know this because you helped us to kill quite a few of them. These idiotas had a plan too. They planned to use her to get to Lucinda.”
“What?” Rebel asked while looking puzzled.
“This girl Ria is Lucinda’s best friend, apparently.
So they wanted Ria to lure Lucinda to her so that they could trap her and give her dead body to Paulo Gondo as their ticket to cartel fame.
Bene, Ria refused to do it. They got pissed and let their hands do the talking.
They used her own dog to hunt her down and after they were done using her as a punching bag, they shot her dog and she escaped.
Now they are looking for her. Frost and Jake found her before they could. ”
“Is she okay?” Rebel wanted to know.
Leon stared at her then he slowly nodded his head. “Si, she is, but she will have issues perhaps. With walking, so the doctor told us. She may have to use a cane.”
Both girls growled low.
Leon stared at them. He might even fear these girls if they were both angry and ready to fight. He hid his smile as he looked down at the desk.
“Does she got any love in her heart for her brothers?” Jelly Bean asked.
Leon raised his head to look at her. “Why would you ask that?”
Jelly Bean and Rebel got to their feet.
“We hate men that hurt women just because they can,” Rebel replied. “And the both of us have taken care of this when we saw it on the streets. Some men never learn, you know?”
Jelly Bean agreed, “I had a father and a brother and they could give a rat’s ass about me. But brothers who hurt their family because no one stops them are nothing but scum. I never had it, but brothers are supposed to be protective. Even young Mikey knows that.”
Rebel again spoke up, “Where we grew up we saw that violence all the time. And every time we stopped it. The cops never do and no one else cared. I think her brothers need a little taste of what they did to her. We know these streets and we can probably find them before they can find her.”
Leon shook his head. “I can’t let you do that, girls. These men are dangerous and they have weapons. They won’t hesitate to use them if they are cornered. One of her brothers is using his own product and he is probably unpredictable.”
Rebel leaned over his desk and gave him a chilling smile. “Mr. Leon, we can handle that. Jelly and I know how to hunt. Don’t you worry about us.”
Jelly Bean snorted and added, “Yeah, save your worrying for her brothers.”
Both women turned and left the office.
“Well, hell...” Leon just sat there. Then he got up, went over to the bar and poured himself a stiff drink.
Reaching for his phone, he called Storm.
When Storm answered the call he told him, “Jelly Bean and Rebel are going hunting for Ria’s brothers.
Can you follow them and make sure they don’t get into trouble? ”
Storm was quiet for a moment then he burst into laughter.
“Not to be disrespectful, but if those ladies are hunting her brothers down, they don’t need watching over, the brothers do.
I’ve seen them defend themselves and they can handle any guy out there, even crackheads like Ricco.
But yeah, we will watch over them. But I’ve seen both of them swing a mean bat.
Then they like swords a bit too much too.
Just know that they aren’t alone out there and if they need help there are plenty of guys willing to back them up. ”
Leon said, “Grazie,” then ended the call.
He lifted the glass to his mouth and took a sip of his bourbon.
Then Leon shook his head. He smiled. Of course, the girls would have backup.
They had lived on the streets most of their lives and they had friends who would watch their backs.
He’d forgotten that those two girls could take care of themselves.
Jelly Bean had been on her own since she was four.
Then a thought occurred to him. He took his cell out and tapped the screen.
The phone rang and was answered.
“Oscar?” Leon asked.
A pause went by then Oscar spoke, “Yes, Mr. V?”
“I feel like you will know this right away, but Jelly Bean and Rebel are gonna be out on the streets for a bit.” He went on to explain the recent happenings and he told him about Storm going too.
After a couple of minutes of this explanation, Oscar replied, “They will have other eyes on them. Thank you for telling me.” He then ended the call.
Leon put his phone away. Then he took a big swig from his glass.
Yes, he was the type of man who’d protected women all his life and he couldn’t stop that now even if he wanted to.
Leon drained his glass and went to sit behind his desk.
He sighed hard and wished Calderone was here.
He had told his son to wait until the cartel threat had been taken out of the equation and he had to wait a little longer for his son to come home.
Yes, his wife had come back with Jake, but they refused to stay away.
All of them were headstrong, especially Jake.
He smirked. Mikey felt protective of Calderone as they had gotten close. So he stayed with Calderone and Willow.
Leon got up from his chair and walked over to the window that looked out to the front of his estate.
As he stood there something from the corner of his eye caught his attention.
He slowly turned his head and just stood there in disbelief as a man jumped down from the top of the wall around his estate.
Then a knock sounded on his door and he called out, “Avanti!” Enter.
John opened the door with his usual favorite gun in his hand. “We have an intruder.”
“I know, I just watched the stronzo scale the fence. Is he stupid or something?” Leon growled.
John shook his head. “I got his likeness from the camera a block away after we first spotted him. When I showed it to Lucinda she told me it was her cousin Ricco.”
Leon noticed the odd zigzag movement as Ricco crossed his lawn. “The man is high right now.”
John nodded. “That he is.” He joined him at the window.
Ricco stumbled toward the mansion.
Just then, Jelly Bean and Rebel stepped outside and both women held baseball bats in their hands.
