Chapter Two Maverick

Fuck me. The pretty little thing I couldn’t keep my eyes off all night finally looked at me.

As soon as our eyes connected, I couldn’t stop myself anymore.

I had to talk to her, to be close to her.

Figure out why the hell she could make my dick stand at attention just by walking into my fucking club.

I hated Jynx. It was the worst out of the six clubs the MC owned in the area.

The crowd skewed younger than I was at thirty-four, and we only played shitty dance music so they would get out on the floor, sweat and buy more drinks.

The customers who came in were also rowdy.

Not violent, they just couldn’t hold their liquor or shut the fuck up.

I never came here. Usually, if there was a problem here, I’d send a prospect or another brother to come figure it out, but after several nights of investigation to no avail, I decided to come check things out myself.

Someone was selling drugs in my territory.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t just that someone thought they had the balls big enough to sell near the Martyrs, but it also had to be a bad batch.

Kids had been dropping dead across three towns for weeks, and dead kids meant the feds would be knocking on our doors anytime now.

That’s what happens when you have the power, you get blamed for every little fucking thing that happens as the feds look for that final nail to put in your coffin.

I refuse to let that shit happen to my club, though.

The Martyrs in Mayhem MC is one of the largest in the country.

We operate out of our hometown Haven Hills, but have charters all across America and a few in other countries.

My pops, the founder of the club, made sure years ago that gang and MC activity didn’t touch anywhere near our headquarters unless it was us or a few of our buddies.

The last time we had someone dumb enough to try us was the Sons of Sorrow MC.

Grim, the president of the club thought he could off my pops and founding members, dismember the club and take our territory.

Grim had made a few bad deals with the mafia and a lot of promises he couldn’t keep.

It took us one month to decimate those stupid motherfuckers.

So many Sons were coming up missing or dead and holding their own nut sacks in their mouths that Grim ran for the hills and we hadn’t heard from him since.

He’s probably still out there hiding, but that’s what happens when you make the wrong kind of deals with the devil.

That was fourteen years ago, and not many viable threats had popped up since then, which meant that whoever was trafficking drugs here either knew what they were doing and were looking to start some shit, or they were just a stupid fucking kid. Hopefully, it was the latter.

I didn’t give a shit either way. Everyone knows not to disrespect a Martyr or risk losing their life.

My brothers and I don’t stand down or take any shit, just like the founders before us.

We don’t bend for pigs or follow the laws.

We follow a higher moral code that was created by the brothers before us.

That’s how we’ve been able to spread all across the U.S.

Then I looked up and there she was in front of the bartender.

I wondered if she knew she had my balls in her hands since I first caught sight of that tight red dress gripping her sexy ass body.

Though every time I looked up at her, she always looked so sad and deep in thought.

Not the typical bimbos that walk around Jynx.

No, those were early twenty-somethings that only had to worry about if mommy and daddy gave them the right AMEX card this morning.

She was different and had a dark aura about her that pulled me in.

That, her nice set of tits that poked out of her dress, and her dark red lipstick had me running over the first chance I got.

“If you keep staring at me like that, I might let you buy me a drink,” I said, trying to see if I could get her to smile.

Truthfully, I couldn’t tell if I wanted to just fuck the girl or ask her to stop looking like someone pissed in her cereal right next to my bar.

Sad girls are bad for business at a club.

Go take that shit to Charlie’s down the street.

I knew that’s not really what I wanted, though. I wanted to find out what about her intrigued me so much.

“I think you’re supposed to be buying me the drink,” she said, laughing. I finally saw her smile and it was just as beautiful as I thought it would be.

I laughed at her response. So she did have a personality, too.

I gave her body a lingering look starting at those sexy high heels that made her legs look endless and slowly up to her exposed shoulders and neck.

I was captivated, and by the way her body tensed up every time we made eye contact, I knew she was interested, too.

“Maybe, maybe not. Truthfully, I just wanted to see if I could make you laugh. You’ve been looking pretty sad all night.”

She gave me a puzzled look, and I knew she was thinking about the idea of me watching her all night. I could tell it didn’t scare or make her nervous. She was genuinely surprised that I had taken interest in her, and then it was my turn to be surprised because how could I not?

“You’ve been watching me,” she said matter-of-factly.

“How could I not? You’re the most beautiful girl here.”

A blush crept across her golden skin as I took a seat next to her.

“Jones, can I get another beer and whatever the fuck she’s having?”

The bartender gave me a quick nod and I turned back towards the fucking goddess sitting next to me.

“You know, they say you should stay away from a man who makes friends with the bartenders.”

I smiled.

“Why’s that?”

“Because they tend to have drinking problems,” she said, taking a sip of her drink.

“Well, what do they say about club owners?”

“You own Jynx?” she said, looking up at me a little surprised.

I gave her another cheeky smile as I leaned against the bar.

“Yeah, this place and a few other shit holes around here. Does that impress you?”

“Not really,” she said, playing coy. “I mean maybe if I could see your books, you know. See your debt-to-income ratio, profit margin, then maybe I’d be impressed.”

I chuckled again, taking a swig of my beer. I bent my head down towards her so that my lips were almost close enough to graze her ears. She smelled like vanilla and I wondered if she tasted that way too. Deepening my voice, I whispered to her, “You want to see my books?”

I felt her body tense up again but quickly release as she let out a big laugh as she realized what I just said.

We went the next hour talking back and forth and getting to know each other.

She asked me about my businesses and I told her some details, leaving out the money laundering and extortion, obviously.

She also told me about school. She graduated with a business management and finance degree at some stuck-up Ivy League school in California and now works for a brokerage firm in Chicago.

I was learning a lot about her and vice versa, which was shocking because I kept wanting to learn more. I kept women around for one thing and one thing only, and you couldn’t be getting me off while running your mouth.

“So what brings you to Collings, visiting family?” I said coyly. When you’d lived in a small town long enough then you knew that newcomers only come here to visit family or to lay low, sometimes both.

“No, actually. I just went through a bad breakup and I needed to get away. Social media said that this was like some undiscovered vacation gem, so I thought ‘why the hell not.’”

“Really? A bad breakup, huh?”

“Yeah, we’ve been together for a while. He doesn’t do space well, so I took matters into my own hands and got the fuck out of there,” she said as she wrinkled her nose, trying to hide the twinge of embarrassment from showing.

I was going to press her further, but I decided that it wouldn’t be for the best.

Something in the air changed and the DJ began to play slower sultry music, which meant we were getting close to closing up.

I leaned in closer to her as she was talking about one of her clients at the firm.

Her eyes locked on mine, making my heartbeat pick up, and the way she responded to my nearness matched with the lust in her eyes was telling me that I was doing something to her, too.

Her banter, though, gave me the impression that she wasn’t used to picking up men from a club.

No, everything about her screamed domesticated.

Even while she wore that tight little dress and loads of makeup, something about her still said that this was the type of girl that men kept around for longer than one night.

That thought alone should have sent me home alone or with a less problematic girl to fuck and kick out.

I was close to convincing myself that I should just do that when the DJ changed the song and Sinead Harnett’s song If You Let Me began to play.

I watched the way her face lit up and her eyes closed for a brief moment as she took the song in.

She was beautiful in the simplest, most intricate ways, and in that moment, I knew I had to know if her face would be just as receptive when she came apart beneath me.

“Dance with me.”

She looked up at me surprised as I reached my hand out to her.

Hell, I was shocked, too, and glad none of my brothers were around to see how pussy-whipped I was acting.

I never danced with women, I didn’t need to.

No point in working for it when there are plenty of willing women who don’t require any work.

But again, something about her made me think that if I had to work for it tonight, it would be worth it.

“Okay,” she said, putting her hand in mine. Thank fuck. I had to get her close to me.

I pulled her onto the dance floor and I turned her so her ass was pressed over my groin. She let out a breath as she tilted, giving me access to her beautiful neck. I knew she could feel my growing erection pressed into her ass and I didn’t care. My hands wrapped around her as her body swayed.

Fuck.

***

THEA

Sinead’s voice overtook me as I was wrapped up in this stranger's arms. His hands slowly grazed across my body and I gently grinded my ass into his waist. I had danced with men before.

I had played the cat and mouse game a few times when Marcus and I broke up, but this was different.

Though I spent most of the last hour and a half telling him lies about India, the name on my fake ID, we still had a connection that was seeping through.

The song. The people. It all faded away as soon as I grabbed his hand. Being close to him felt like walking across a cliff. If I wasn’t careful, I might fall into the ocean below.

The song continued on as I felt his lips near the nape of my neck, like he was breathing me in.

My entire body was on high alert and I knew he must have known the effect he had on me.

Hell, I think he picked up on it the first time our eyes made contact.

He was different from the men back at school, especially Marcus.

He was confident and intimidating, but also gentle.

I couldn’t help but imagine the way he would make me feel in his bed.

I came here for one night to get caught up, so why not get lost in the man who was turning me on after one dance more than any man I’d ever shared a bed with?

The song came to a close and he turned me around to face him. He looked down at my lips before reaching down and capturing them. I fought a small moan from escaping my mouth as I fell further into my mystery man, the “Prez” of the Martyrs in Mayhem. Whatever the fuck that meant, I didn’t care.

I knew he could be dangerous. I knew that spending time with him could end up with me on a missing persons poster, but the longer his lips spent on mine, the quicker my worries began to fade.

After what felt like an eternity, he pulled away. He looked at me like he was starving, like very little was stopping him from pulling me into the nasty club bathroom tearing my clothes off. Oddly enough, I’d probably let him, and I’m sure I’d enjoy every minute of it.

Finally, he said the words I had been longing to hear since I caught him staring at me.

“Come home with me.”
